Every time I'm in Reading, I HAVE to stop Dandi-Lyons! Luckily, I got my last visit of the season in tonight. Since it's the end of the season, there weren't many flavor options left, but luckily they still had my favorite--moose tracks! I ordered a regular scoop in a cup, and it was packed to the brim with 12 ounces of ice cream. I love the mix of chocolate and peanut butter without one overpowering the other. I also tried the chocolate overload, which truly lived up to its name! It might be too much for those who aren't hardcore chocolate lovers. I usually like to get my ice cream with rainbow sprinkles, and at Dandi-Lyons, all toppings cost about $0.50-$1.15 extra. However, it's worth the slight up charge because the ice cream itself is very reasonably priced. Other popular flavors in my family include purple cow (black raspberry ice cream with white chocolate chips) and chocolate soft serve. There's also some allergy-friendly options! My cousin has a nut allergy, so all we have to do is let the waiter know before ordering his ice cream and they will make it separate and pay special attention to avoiding allergens. I can't say enough nice things about Dandi-Lyons, it truly is one of my favorite ice cream places of all time!! read more

I think Dandi-Lyons is awesome. We drive out of our way to get to Dandi-Lyons. We really enjoy the fact that Dandi-Lyons serves Richardson's high quality, locally produced and sourced, ice cream, and they serve a variety of soft serve ice cream options and varieties, as well. The Dandi-Lyons staff is always friendly and courteous, Dandi-Lyons is always clean, the "customer experience" at Dandi-Lyons is superb. The hard working kids, who work at Dandi-Lyons, and who SMILE, I believe deserve a generous gratuity (they're hard working, happy kids). I enjoy the option of supporting a local business, Dandi Lyons. What a night and day improvement Dandi-Lyons is over "The Daily Scoop" in Stoneham; the prices at The Daily Scoop are outrageous! This review is a bit late as we visited last weekend. This is a wonderful independent New England ice cream-stand! I imagine many years ago, the road was less traveled and less congested. There is a Home Goods diagonal to the ice cream-stand. But it's not really a problem just an observation. There is an abundance of soft serve, hard ice cream and hard frozen yogurt choices. Staff are friendly college aged young adults with excellent customer focus. We got soft serve; and the portions and prices are so fair. Excellent quality tasting! Got looking at the impressive menu and was getting ready to order when we found out they were cash only. ITS 2018 get a credit card reader... Started to look for an ATM which some places will provide when they decide to be cash only. Nope none on the premises. Asked the counter guy if they had an ATM i was missing. The exterior of Dandi-lyon doesn't look promising, but they do offer a great variety of soft serve and scoop ice cream! I am not sure if the flower shop next to the ice cream area is also considered dandi-lyon but that seemed to be empty with no flowers in sight. I tried the coffee soft serve and it was pretty good. The sundae that my friend got looked really good, it's the old-fashioned kind of sundae. A lot of the reviews mentioned about the dirtiness and insect of the seating area, but I was pleasantly surprised to find really clean benches and no insects at all! We went around noon time. I grew up eating Dandi-Lyons, it was our place to go for great soft-serve. We went for the first time this summer last week and boy were we disappointed. There must be new ownership or something? because we got absolutely robbed. The "large" soft serves are a small anywhere else. My family ordered 4 large twists in cups to go. This is an interesting concept as it's connected to a flower shop. They have an ever changing list of soft serve ice cream plus your standard hard flavors. Prices are decent if you're just going for the ice cream. I've never had to wait long to order. They are cash only so if you're going for bigger orders like sundaes, keep that in mind. Their java berry is a swirl of blackberry and coffee and fantastic. Banana berry was not that great. I've found banana is a real hard flavor in ice cream and coffee to pull off. This has been my favorite ice cream place for the longest time. It's affordable, has great flavors and really nice staff. The only downside is that there really isn't any where clean to sit.
