Mocha frap and Carmel frap
BriAnn K.

This was the best coffee in the UP. Super cute small business and fast, friendly service. They really know how to make good coffee. I couldn't decide if I liked the mocha or Carmel better, but the Carmel was my drink and I finished it quickly. I wish we could go inside to look at the decorations.

We received a tip to stop into the Dancing Crane Coffee House from a blog we read on line while travelling through Michigan. The baristas here must be the friendliest in the all of the Wolverine State; they explained how they brew coffee, offered tastings and helped us decide which to ultimately purchase based on our individual taste buds. When we asked for some information about the Lake Superior byway, one of the baristas gave us a free map and recommended that we visit the scenic landing for Monocle Lake; we were super pumped that we listened to her suggestion. Definitely make the Dancing Crane, which also offers homemade goodies, a pitstop to refuel with coffee when driving on the Upper Peninsula!

The cozy rustic interior of Dancing Crane Coffee House

I had driven by Dancing Crane many times before I finally stopped in, and I'm glad I did. It has a nice, rustic atmosphere with plenty of seating, board games and free WiFi. They also have a drive-thru. It is independently owned (which is obvious even from the outside) and there is a small, friendly staff. While there I met the family that owns it and helped them raise a wall on the expansion they were building. They are nice and welcoming, and know their coffee. They roast their own coffee and espresso, and find their international products at cafe roasting conventions. I ordered a double espresso and a dark roast (two separate days) and it was well roasted, smooth and flavorful. They also have food, including hot dogs, burgers, brats and veggie burgers. This place really was a welcome surprise, and I will be telling family and friends to stop in (we don't live in the area but do a lot of camping and vacationing in the UP). Great owners and product, and a nice place to hang out for a while. A truly unexpected gem.

This is a great spot with a friendly wonderful atmosphere & fabulous coffee . I recommend and will be back as today was my 1st visit.

Three stars for the black coffee, and five stars for the hot chocolate…read more My child wanted a hot chocolate, and fortunately, Lucky Bean has a kid-sized cup. (It's not on the menu, but they do have a size smaller than 12 ounces -- just ask.) When the people behind the counter learned that the hot chocolate was for a child, these considerate people took the extra step to make the drink a little cooler in temperature than normal. And I didn't even have to ask! Because, you know, kids can't tolerate any type of food or drink that isn't tepid. I appreciated that thoughtfulness! I ordered a black coffee, and unfortunately, I didn't like it at all. It tasted burnt and like hot prune juice -- just not good. I'm sure the coffee tastes good in drinks with milk and sugar in them, but as a black coffee drinker, the black coffee needs to stand on its own. Lucky Bean is located off the main drag, in a cute little neighborhood. The inside of the coffee shop is tight -- there is barstool seating by the window, but mostly, this is a to-go coffee shop. It's small, and you can't really stay and drink your beverages here.

Plus, the locals love Lucky Bean, and you can't go wrong with a place that gets their stamp of approval. LB is a small shop with limited seating and standing room. I opted for an iced Sugar Loaf latte: white mocha, brown sugar and caramel drizzle. It was delicious! Highly recommend you swing by this place and stroll Market Street.

There was a wait and the food took a bit too, but it was still doable. I loved all the options and the sandwiches are a good size! They come with a bag of chips, but you can upgrade to get a drink and additional side (I picked the coleslaw). I think I would have just been fine with the chips, honestly. The coleslaw was good, but not anything amazing. I thought my sandwich was pretty good, and I appreciate the dips and sauces they serve with it. The chicken on my sandwich was a bit dry, but the sauce helped a lot. I got to try a different sandwich from my friend and it was good too, but also a bit dry (oddly!). I'd definitely come back here again and I think this spot is a great option. The area is so congested, expensive, and busy, so I appreciated that this was different!

I was very surprised at how empty this place was because the food was so good!! You get a large portion for 15-18$ and it comes with choice of chips. I love the creative combination of flavors, works so well!! After eating American food all weekend, I was looking for something that stood out and Zachariahs was just what I was looking for! Had a hard time deciding between the Mighty Mac and Pistachio Press. Went with the Mighty Mac & it didn't disappoint. High protein and the Greek yogurt ranch was phenomenal. I should have gotten both to be honest because I can't stop thinking of the pistachio press. Lol

My smoothie standards are sky-high, and the smoothie that I had a Watercolor Cafe was amazing. It was so good that I made everyone at the table taste it, and we agreed: superb smoothie. The Blueberry Bliss has blueberries, banana, white chocolate and oak milk in it. I wish there were a little more nutritious (maybe throw in some flax, hemp seed and/or chia), but maybe that's why it's so delicious. Another delicious thing: the Peanut Butter Deluxe Toast, which is creamy peanut butter and sliced bananas with a drizzle of honey on wheat bread. Super tasty and filling! I got the avocado toast, and it wasn't my favorite. The avocado tasted more like packaged guacamole, and I got it with an egg, which is literally a hard-boiled egg that sits on top. Also, the toast was more like just a soft piece of bread. I mean, I guess technically, all of the components are there, but the execution needed some work. The breakfast burrito was super tasty (it came with chorizo), and one of my kids got the kids' mac and cheese, which came with a cookie. When these guys say that breakfast is served until 11 a.m., they really mean it! We visited around 10:50, wanting to order off of the lunch menu, but they didn't let us. I think the only lunchy offerings during breakfast time is the kids' menu. The seating inside is very cute: There's a craft station with paper, coloring books, and all kinds of colored pencils and things to create something at your table. Outside, you can sit on the patio and enjoy the view of the lake. Dogs are welcome on the patio and given water and a treat!

Ordered a chipotle turkey, bacon on the side, Michelangelo, snickerdoodle latte with oat milk latte, water bottle and a berry infused lemonade. The berry infused lemonade has some fake sugar in it, real sugar would make it better. The blueberries are still frozen, not fresh. Bummer. The snickerdoodle latte with oat milk was good. Flavorful. The chipotle chicken was tasty. The bread was nicely toasted. The Michelangelo was decent until my husband tried to bite into a piece of bone in the chicken. Not cool! Good thing he didn't break a tooth biting into it harder or swallow it whole in the middle of big bite. I did let the staff know about the bone in the chicken. I watched them all examine the bone in the back kitchen. The front desk woman offered to give a refund. I told her it's more important that she was made aware that it occurred than the refund. There are quite a few bees inside the patio. My husband got bitten on the back of his neck while eating lunch. Not a great lunch experience so far. Our Watercolor Cafe. 3 aggressive bees, one bee sting on the neck, bone chicken in the Michelangelo sandwich, frozen blueberries in the berry infused lemonade.
