I started taking private and group classes last month and have been absolutely LOVING IT! Initially, I took a trial class to assess the environment, the instructors, and whether this was something I wanted to continue doing. I IMMEDIATELY signed up for more private and group classes because I had such a blast and had already learned a lot! Since then, I've learned basic dance rules and techniques, and I'm enjoying learning salsa, bachata, cha-cha, and tango! I've always loved dancing but never knew how to dance with a partner, so my husband and I have been thoroughly enjoying these classes. We still have a lot to learn but we're gaining a skill that we can enjoy together forever! Yurii, Valeriia, and Srna are also what truly make this place exceptional. Not only are they incredibly talented dancers and highly professional instructors but they are extremely welcoming too, and it feels like we've known each other for a long time! I for one am someone who doesn't feel confident in dancing and a super beginner when it comes to dancing...with that being said Yurii has been my instructor and has made me feel so comfortable and less nervous throughout it. Eric was phenomenal in teaching us the bachata first dance for our wedding. He was super from beginning to end, patient in teaching us the steps and helping us work together, he listened carefully to what we wanted and crafted an elegant but simple choreography that was within our ability, he was creative in putting the music and movement together, and he made something potentially stressful quite fun. And we knocked it outta the park! He came to our wedding reception to teach bachata to our guests and he made it so fun and accessible for everyone. It got them all dancing, all ages and set us up for a great rest of the evening on the dance floor! We are so grateful and happy we found him! read more

I chanced upon this amazing studio in the middle of what is to me nowhere but evidently a hot spot for the local hoofers to go strut their stuff on that gorgeously ample and smooth dance floor. This is not your Fred Astaire or Arthur Murray dance step, this is Dancing with the Stars stepping out in a big way. In fact they are owned and operated by two of the dancers from that show and they know how to do this big. I love the classy modern decor, the amazing staff who make you feel like you an old friend... It must be all those smiles and rubber necking they do on the dance floor that shapes their disposition to greet you with warmth and a flawless posture. Plenty of space to change your shoes, cubbies for your belongings, free eats, though that is not what i want to see, they have tons of goodies on display just waiting for your to be tempted. But I come to be toned and after just one class my legs, I swear, are more fabulous than when I walked in. I can not say enough about my guy Rani (spelling), tall dark slim as all get out of here and soo amazing as a teacher and so much fun to dance with. I recently took a private introductory lesson, my first, with the aim of enjoyment, exercise, and just getting out, nothing competitive. Having spoken on the phone prior with a staff member, I was told it would be a 45 minute session, greatly discounted as a first timer (which it was, at $49). The establishment is posh, elegant, and the staff greeted me warmly. I was paired with a warm, professional instructor, Maurizio. He made me feel comfortable, excited, and more competent than I saw myself. I learned several basic elements of dance. The music was exceptional. Time flew by..... Once the dancing ended, the (front of house?) Katie immediately offered me a combo package, and/or less costly group and party options. The former was costly, so I decided to sit on that. As is turned out, it wasn't my imagination, but I was shortchanged by about 10-15 minutes of dance. I only realized when I got back to my car. Having had a lovely time, I felt uncomfortable going back in and addressing the staff. I was the only client there, and there were about 5 staff members. From a professional stance, the company should have done more, not less to entice me to commit. I was strongly considering taking the plunge financially, though once I realized I wasn't appreciated or respected as a paying customer (no matter what tier), I was and am with 100% certainly, not coming back. I unfortunately cannot recommend a starter experience because of this bias, though I don't regret seeing what's out there, and the quality of dance I received. It was a fun, fabulous time. I hope that being such a polished place, more emphasis will be put on honesty and integrity for future customers. read more

Just one lesson and I was impressed. The dance instructors are all beautiful, well-groomed and fabulous, well-trained dancers. My trial lesson was in the Salsa. The instructors explained each step patiently, even for my husband. By the end of the hour we were dancing around the floor to a salsa beat. What fun! Friends are amazed at my transformation from geopolitical/economic news junkie to ballroom dance aficionado. It's such a departure from the norm, that hopping in the car, driving from DC to Long Island to see both performances of SWAY this past Saturday evening with my daughter, was quite a commitment. We were not disappointed and would happily see it again. In short, SWAY was about emotion, relationships and life: desire, joy, and passion all conveyed through movement, music, and visual impact. The amount of love and energy put into this production, with a cast of Dance With Me professionals, was apparent from the opening scene and never let up through all three Acts. The premise of the performance was interesting and creative. Three acts, three different views into dance: the Golden Age of Ballroom, Urban Influences via the creative melting pot of Brooklyn, and the passionate, emotional Latin influences which speak a whole language of movement and music of their own. These vignettes spoke to the audience through movement, music, impeccable costuming, and high quality production values of lighting, audio/visual themes, and special effects. To me, it really underscored the reality that dance isn't static in terms of feeling, even if the forms are recognizable regardless of the era and environment. Thus, the viewer was able to see a Jive through the lens of the Golden Age and Urban settings... still the Jive, but oh, what a different 'flavor'! The first act was what one typically thinks of when the term 'ballroom dance' is mentioned. The setting took the audience back to the zenith of ballroom dance and the Golden Age film era which underscored the popular movement at a time when every town had a dance hall and for ten cents, young people could spend an evening dancing the night away. Tony Dovolani and Elena Grinenko, World Champion partners in American Rhythm, were the headliners of this Act, one of their dances was the one which secured them a World Championship title. The cast did a remarkable job portraying this period in all of its grandeur; from appropriately theatrical expressions on the dancers faces to the sparkly splendor of Swarovski crystals winking at the audience from Elena's inspired costume. Val and Zendaya headlined the high energy second Act which brought viewers to a more visceral, real and raw form of dance. The setting was, appropriately, the first home in the US for the Chmerkovskiy brothers: Brooklyn. Long a melting pot and incubator of creativity, the production brought the viewer to the streets of this borough. While some of the dances were in the same style as in the first Act, the 'feel' was distinctly different. This was a real eye-opener... What is a 'Jive'? It depends. The components are the same, but the execution, the arrangement and feel is completely different. Zendaya is a delight to watch dance. Her energy and clear and obvious joy at performing brings a smile to the face and a feeling of happiness to the audience. As for Val, what can one say other than his dancing is sublime? The second Act, along with the others, didn't shy away from injecting good-natured humor into the program. Those old enough to recall the early days of MTV, music videos, and the introduction of hip-hop/breakdancing to a wider, more suburban audience started grinning from the start of the 'show down' dance off between the urban hip hop and tube-sock and shooooort athletic short wearing 'exercise video' types. The costuming was fantastic throughout this Act, featuring items from the Valentin line along with modern twists on classic design, such as a Chanel inspired quilted vest. The last Act, headlined by Maks and Peta Murgatroyd, was all about PASSION. Well deserving of the highest accolades, their dancing was sizzling hot and their Paso Doble, in particular, was a stand out for it's dramatic intensity. This Act was the most traditionally Latin in feel, which was emphasized by the musical selection as well as the more festive, colorful costuming. Elements from Cha Cha, Samba, Tango and Salsa were in force during the group dances and it's encouraging in so many parts of the world, Latin dancing is enjoyed by all as part of everyday life. Peta is an incredibly lovely dancer and a joy to watch perform. As for Maks, Val once said that Maks can lift an eyebrow and an audience will go wild, while he, Val, has to do all sorts of flips and tricks to gain the same response. While Val was quite modest, there is something about Maks' presence on a dance floor or stage which simply draws the eye and is compelling to watch. The only downside to the entire day, was that it ended. Clearly, anything the Chmerkovskiy brothers place their stamp of approval upon, is worthy and of high quality. SWAY was not only brilliantly conceived, choreographed, produced and performed: it offered insights into life and love, through dancing. Started ballroom dancing and at DWM in June 2013 and I absolutely love it! The entire staff is amazing, with very warm, friendly, and encouraging atmosphere. You always get the feeling that they want you to do your best and succeed at whatever your goals that brought you there are. Not only are the private lessons beyond amazing, but the group lessons and social parties are very educational and fun. I look forward to them each week. The instructors are wonderful at tailoring teaching to the way in which you learn. They make each lesson fun while striving to teach you to be your best at the varies dances. I highly recommend this studio and honestly cant say enough positive things about the studio and staff!!! What a great experience! My fiancé and I went in for a dance lesson for our wedding. We were nervous. We wanted something simple and easy to remember. Our wedding is a week away, so we were in crunch mode! Within minutes, Jason made us feel so comfortable and we were able to get our first dance in a session. There's a ton of different dance options to choose from too! Whether you want a private lesson or a group lesson or whether you're a novice to an expert! They were super professional and warm. I am thrilled to be able to share this review with anyone who will listen. Walking in the doors of Dance with Me Long Island has been one of the best decisions of my life. I was really nervous the first time I walked into the studio. After all..it is the home of Maks, Val and Tony from Dancing with the Stars. How would they view this 50 plus , out of shape woman who hasn't danced in years? I am a fan of Dancing with the Stars and after watching a few seasons with older contestants, I thought..maybe I can do that ! I loved dance when I was younger, but really thought those days were over. At first I really lacked confidence. That did not last very long. From the front desk ladies...(from Katherine and Kaisha), who embraced me , to every one of my teachers past and present, ( shout out to my Jason:), I was able to start regaining confidence that I had lost for years. At Dance with Me Long Island individualized instruction is what they do best. I have even had great coaching and lessons with Maks and Val! My fiancé and I decided to take lessons at Dance With Me in preparation for our upcoming wedding. As we got into our lessons with Skylor, we quickly discovered how much we enjoy dancing and learning about the technicality behind it. With the help of Skylor, we learned the basics of the six core dances (Waltz, Tango, Fox Trot, Cha Cha, Rumba, and Swing). Skylor was great with teaching my fiancé how to correct his posture and how to properly lead me during the dances. She was so easy to work with and is so sweet. We were all able to connect well and have a lot of fun in the process. Every time we walked into Dance With Me, Skylor and Andrea always greeted us with smiles and by name- from day 1! We signed up for dance classes in August to prepare us for our "First Dance" for our wedding in October. We wanted an unconventional dance routine, and our instructor Natalie choreographed it and taught us the routine, while also building our confidence. The other instructors at the studio were also very supportive. On the night of the wedding reception, our guests told us that we "knocked it out of the park." The experiences at this studio are those I could never have anticipated. Each instructor is extremely patient and caring and you never feel intimidated. Although they are all professionals with varying levels/areas of expertise, your lessons are customized to your personal goals, and them some, as they bring the best out of each and every student. There are many days I get frustrated with myself, but they encourage you every step of the way--and a few big time belly laughs in between don't hurt to make it enjoyable and memorable. I have made some new friends for life. I saw a quote form the Dance with Me parent company today as follows "Don't be afraid to be amazing. Like many others, I have been over weight for most of my life. I was never as heavy as I was during 2011. At the end of December, 2011, I noticed someone else losing weight. Seeing that person and talking to them, inspired me to finally make a change - a change to healthy eating, exercising, and a new way of looking at food. Taking Ballroom & Latin dance lessons at Dance With Me, has helped me to become toned, and graceful in my dancing. So far I've lost 49lbs and I'm determined to lose more. I don't look at what I'm doing as a "diet". I look at it as a new lifestyle a new me - the me that I want to be. I've cut down on carbs, try to have low calorie foods and I drink 23.7 fl oz bottles of water 3 to 6 times a day. Making reasonable weight loss goals is something else I do. I also find that recording my current weight in a notebook, helps me because in a way I get to look back and say to myself, "I don't want to go back to that number again." I also find that having pictures of people who have inspired me, in my notebook, helps me to continue to make these changes. This has made a big difference in my life. I have more energy, but most of all...I'm really happy. Losing weight has also helped me in my dancing. I've noticed how different I move now compared to when I first started. I've always had good flowing motion in dance but making that movement look good with sharpness was hard for me. Now, I am sharper, faster, smoother, and it's easier to shift my weight around without feeling like I'm going to fall over all the time. Things like..."How did I look next to my instructor?" ...always popped into my head. Now, things like that don't even cross my mind. I'm currently taking the core classes and toning classes offered at Dance With Me. Doing those classes plus my regular lessons have also helped out a lot. I have been a dancer since the age of 3, and at 24 I had found myself out of my studio, out of college, and left with hole dancing everyday once filled. Finding Julio at Dance With Me was one of the greatest things that had happened to me. Even though it wasn't everyday, I finally found a place to dance again, a place to challenge me, a place to make me smile, and a home to dance my troubles away again. Almost 5 years ago my sister gave me a birthday gift of two dance lessons so I would stop nagging about how I would love to ballroom dance like those on "Dancing With the Stars." A computer search turned up Dance With Me Studios in Glen Head. The owners included Max, Val and Tony from DWTS. What a great gift! I was hooked immediately. I'm certain during that first lesson my instructor felt my body trembling with nerves. Everyone is so friendly my aprehensions soon faded. To walk through the door is to be embraced in a family atmosphere. The instructors are superb dancers but also top notch teachers. Your lessons are always individualized to your needs and preferences. Whether you are working with your instructor or taking a class with Tony, Val or Max it is easy to feel comfortable and have fun. Just started to learn to dance as a professional, a dream I had as a teenager. I am now retired and am enjoying it so much. This is a community of teachers and students committed to dancing and eventually performing at whatever level is possible. Standards are high and the instructors are patient. We are all having so much fun so why not join us. Dancing with a partner, extremely popular before television and computers is a wonderful way to combine excercise, music and nonverbal communication.
