Damon's Real Texas BBQ

Do not miss this place - and if you are not near Houston, order from them online!…read more Great BBQ - juicy, flavorful, and not overwhelmed by smoke. Side *almost* outshined the BBQ. Mac and cheese was super creamy and I may never say no to creamed corn again - at least here! In addition, they have a fantastic choice of sausages and pickles. And the CASE of jerky is a meat junkies dream - make sure to try the Bohemian Garlic (a fav!). Don't forget the banana pudding for dessert. I don't even like the stuff but would easily eat a gallon of it! Lane and Stephanie, the owners are often around, friendly, and the kind of folks you feel good supporting. They recently hired a new chef who is adding his spin to the menu - and I dare say the food is better than ever! So get yourselves to Texas - or online - and enjoy some BBQ and Jerky heaven!!

The last few times we've been there. It seems like the food has not been near as good as it used to be. We stopped there today on our way home from Port Aransas, Texas, then have never been so disappointed in the poor quality lack of taste and complete lack of Customer Service. When we walked in my wife heard a guy and a girl in the back arguing about which one had to come out and take our order and slice the brisket. The attitude didn't get any better throughout. The brisket was very tough hard to chew, and the ribs were only half cooked and almost all fat, basically inedible. I took it back to the counter and they really didn't care. The two people at the counter at that time just looked at me like don't come back if you don't like it. Well that's exactly what's gonna happen? I'm never going back as I said earlier the food has been getting less and less acceptable and they finally hit the limit on. Totally unacceptable.

So I put the brisket in a chopper made chopped beef sandwiches. I talked to my brother about the meat and he told me "the next time order brisket from the "moist" end." The second time, I stopped at Ohl's I ordered from the moist end and the chewability was a little better (20.00 a pound). The meat had a nice smokey charcoal grill flavor, not like some bbq'ers who boil the meat first and then put t on the grill. I like the sausage (8.00 a link). I use it in my sea food gumbo. Oh, when opening the door to Ohl's, make sure you look down and watch your step. You could trip and fall.
