My experience at this Four Points by Sheraton was amazing. I must make this note that the…read moreconstruction on the Highway 401 rail tunnel for the Kitchener GO line is ongoing. Construction takes place at around 10 pm every night and it goes on throughout the wee hours of the morning. I recommend sleeping with earplugs. If you don't have any, I'd advise that you try another hotel. More details later.
I spent a week here. At work, we are working towards a major software release. I also had a CPR course to attend. Hectic! I decided to make it a staycation and shorted my commute by staying in Etobicoke.
I checked in on a Saturday at 6 pm. I parked in front of the Welcome sign and walked in. The woman at the front desk was great welcoming me, asking whether I wanted points or breakfast (I went with the former), gave me my room cards, and got me a parking pass. I went back to my car to haul my piece of luggage, computer bag, and snacks to my room.
Guests park on the sides of the parking lot. Guests dining at Fionn or checking in park where I was, in front of the Welcome sign. Interesting.
I was upgraded to a suite on the 14th floor. It helps being a Marriott Bonvoy Elite member! The suite had a kitchenette, two full bathrooms, a living room, and a bedroom with a door. I loved it. It felt like my home away from home, except for the welcome gift that was waiting for me in front of the television. I got a bottle of Pure Leaf (I love this brand!), mini Oreos, baked chips, and chocolate chip cookies.
I made breakfast every morning in my room. It has a convection burner, microwave, sink, full fridge with a freezer, coffee maker, and sink.
As mentioned, the Metrolinx construction happening to create a tunnel under Highway 401 was the only negative experience that I can think of. I always travel with earplugs, so I used them and was good. I slept the best after doing a ton of chest compressions on a mannequin during my CPR certification and on my final night there. The construction was dead to me.
Staff are friendly. They kept my room clean every day. The garbage in the kitchen wasn't thrown out after my first night and recycling was missed a couple of times. I am not exactly a slob, so it's wasn't a huge deal to me.
Fionn McCool's is the restaurant connected to this hotel. I ate dinner there one night and enjoyed it. There is live music at night here.
There was only one night where there were noisy neighbours on my floor. I don't know why folks like talking in the hallways at 1 am. I was up anyway, but I didn't want to be a part of their conversation. Again, earplugs are your friend!
I wanted a late checkout. On Friday night, I stopped by the front desk and spoke with a nice man to see if I could check out at 2 pm on Saturday. Not only did he say that it was okay, but he made it 3 pm "just in case." I was happy.
He proceeded to ask me how my stay was. I said that it was great, except for the noisy construction. He let me know that management had asked the construction company to stop during sleeping hours, but the noise still continues. I said that I sleep with earplugs, so it wasn't a big deal.
What I didn't expect was, while heating up fresh lasagna with bechamel sauce in the microwave, a knock on my door roughly an hour after I had returned. I opened the door and it was the man from the front desk. He had a bag of snacks and drinks that I recognized, but it wasn't a welcome gift. He felt bad about the noise that he insisted that I have a bag of snacks to make up for the inconvenience. Wow! I told him that I appreciated the snacks and his attentive listening. I wished him a nice evening. Give me a KitKat, popcorn, Pure Leaf, and more mini Oreos, and I am a happy camper!
I miss the robe and slippers that I used during my entire stay. The lighting was great in this suite. I got free bottles of water every day, which this thirsty person appreciated.
There were two televisions in this suite. I only used the one in the bedroom once. Most of my TV viewing happened in the living room. Some channels were a bit spotty in signal reception. However, I managed to watch the Winnipeg Blue Bombers win the Grey Cup and many NHL games without a hitch.
I'd stay here again. It took me twenty minutes to get to work from here, which is better than my typical hour commute one way. I also look forward to dropping by Fionn McCools for a bite and drinks after work.
