Having elderly parents or being in charge of your grandparents is a hard task but even more so,…read morewhen they have Alzheimer's or Dementia. Let's not even talk about the resources and the system the Island of Puerto Rico has. With this being said, I want everyone who comes across my review to keep an open mind before making the choice of putting their loved ones in a nursing home, any nursing home I want to point out.
First and foremost, it's hard to care for them while you need to work and have minors, because they need to be under constant supervision 24/7. This is something you cannot do while living in Puerto Rico in order to work 8-10hrs, pay bills and raising your children without suffering for the lack of electricity and water supply. (This is something that needs to be considered, before judging specially when there is no help.)
The system in Puerto Rico does not work. The only way it works in somewhat cases is if you know people in the right places, if someone owes you a favor, if you can get the attention of people on social platforms and even on the news. Let's not forget about your political views, who you rally/campaign for... (This is the truth.)
My grandfather ended up in the hospital, Doctor's Center Hospital, located in Bayamon in which also the social worker working at that time had no knowledge either of what she was doing and how to help an elderly who came in and clearly had signs of being abused. It's like they are afraid of opening the "pandora box" because of all the paper work and the outcome. They prefer to just give an immediate service.
After he was stabilized but home bound, he was moved and recommended to this specific nursing home from the social worker in the hospital to the Departamento de la familia social worker.
"Hogar Dulce Sueños" located in Villa Josco
Toa Alta, PR 00953, administrated by Keyla Perez. They received him from the hospital transported from an ambulance in which he was there for a couple of years 2018 to 2024.
At the beginning everything seemed "GREAT", the way the owner/administrator spoke and texted. But it wasn't until I started looking online, searching, finding photos etc... How the nursing home was ran by her, and her family. A family business. Which is not wrong but where is the fine line between family, employee and work ethic? When I started asking specific questions that's when I got no calls, no texts and no response. That make me think: "Why?"
Aside of the comments among the lines, Now he has family, If he had family there would be no need for him to be in a nursing home. Once again no one has the right to make those comments, judge or accuse. She should strictly limit her self to give a proper service. Because in her case she is receive some kind of incentive from the government (I ASSUME) as well as my grandfathers Social Security check (I ASSUME). Years went by and I knew about him, his health its and pieces here and there.
Sadly, he passed away. One family member was contact via text and phone call. If that message wasn't reached he would been strictly cremated since there was "no family member". Meanwhile when he was transferred to that nursing home, information on his granddaughters (me being one) was exchanged. Till this day, I live in the same
place, same phone number, and same email. If there was proper documentation, being filled properly this issue would've not happened.
After receiving his body you can clearly see how his eyebrow and lip show that he was injured in some kind of way...
Bottom line is... I do not recommend nursing homes in the Island of Puerto Rico. Especially, The Angel's Residence located in Bayamon, PR and Hogar Dulce Sueños located in Villa Josco Toa Alta, PR 00953.
