We had a car drive into the front of our house. What was worse than that experience, was having to…read moredeal with Service Master. The project was scheduled to wrap up in 7 months after the accident (already a long time), and we finally settled with them after 19 months (and this was after they proposed extending the project another 6 months). We never had a true project manager, and as homeowners were forced to project manage it ourselves, while trying to balance full time jobs. The level of unprofessionalism and incompetence we had to suffer through with Service Master brought us to tears. We dealt with inexperienced employees/sub-contractors. There was no accountability because no one ever came by to review their work. The work was sub par as evidenced by the following: * We were asked to leave our home for 2 weeks, so they could complete the majority of the disruptive work. We repeatedly asked for a schedule so we would know what was being done while we were gone, but never received one. When we came home after 2 weeks, barely anything had been done. Of the 14 days we were gone, they had only scheduled work for 2 of those days. * This whole project was right at the beginning of Covid, and we had multiple ServiceMaster employees in and out of our home on a regular basis...and they were not wearing masks. I had to ask them no less than 3 times to please wear masks. On a particularly hot day we offered a ServiceMaster employee a soda, his response was "no thanks, I can't taste anything anyway". So they were still sending employees to our home that were known to have Covid. * They installed the wrong size window in the front of the house where there was a matching window on the other side. We had to point this out to them. The response we got was "Can you live with it?" * They had to repaint a bedroom due to cracks in the wall. It took them 4 attempts to patch up the cracks, use the right color, remove the paint they had gotten all over our floors and ceiling fan. * They had to re-wrap load bearing beams in cedar because they destroyed the original ones. The first time they installed the cedar, one edge of the board wasn't flush with the ceiling...by 5 inches. They left it like this for a few weeks until they had time to return. * They decided not to frame out the living room in the way it was originally. Response: We aren't really going off of drawings or plans but doing it from memory/photos. * They poured a new concrete pathway...on a day it was raining pretty hard. This resulted in chipping and pitting almost immediately. Then they came back to "resurface" it, which again resulted in major cracking within weeks. They also poured our front stoop and it had a huge dip in it, so they then had to come back to pour another step on top of that. All in all, they attempted the concrete work 3 times and then determined it needed to be completely torn out and re-done. They also cracked the foundation using a Bobcat to recklessly remove the original stoop. Had to complain to get them to fix the cracked foundation. * They determined that they didn't need to cap off the foundation or use flashing around the base of the stone work. In order to get this remediated the correct way, we needed to threaten to contact NARI. That was the only way they would complete the job up to code. * They determined they didn't need to caulk around the trim work on the outside of the house, which we now need to pay for out of pocket. When we received the final invoice, there were thousands of dollars worth of charges on it for line items that they never did, or instructed us as the homeowners to do. We had to go line by line and add up everything we were incorrectly charged for. I have attached just a few photos of the dozens I have, showing what ServiceMaster considered completed work. They did not proactively catch any of these issues. Instead as the homeowners we had to report the issue, document it, and then deal with the subcontractors to point out what was wrong and tell them how to fix it. In hindsight, I wish we had gone to NARI or gotten a lawyer involved. The headaches we went through with this company were absolutely not worth it.

Josh came out right away to secure a tarp on our roof to prevent further damage. Once our insurance adjuster came out and determined that they would provide us very minimal coverage for the damage, Josh took it to the next level for us. It was a tedious and drawn out process but in the end we were awarded the funds to cover our new roof and our expenses for the damage to our bathroom. Josh was very on the ball and attentive to getting things taken care of for us. He came out and met with us to determine which product we wanted to use for our new roof as well as a tentative start date for the job (obviously weather permitting). When he noticed that an upcoming weekend had some promising weather, he reached out to us to confirm if this would work with our schedule. He arranged for the materials and dumpster to be delivered. On the day of install, his crew showed up and were all very professional. Came at 8am on Saturday morning and were done by noon on Sunday. Excellent site clean up from all of them. The only evidence that they had been there was our new roof and the dumpster full of materials in our driveway. Josh immediately had the dumpster removed from our property as well. Very attentive and accessible during the entire process from start to finish. 5 star rating for this company and Josh from our first encounter until the job was complete.

We had no clue that our compact washer and dryer were not properly installed and created moisture in that small room that resulted in mold on the ceiling. We got 2 quotes the first one from another company was high and had no details of what they were going to do. The 2nd quote from Emergency was thorough and they walked us through in detail what they needed to do and assured us the job would get done properly. Our contact Brian was awesome and he communicated to us and my realtor every step and made this experience as seamless as possible. They had two different teams manage the removal of the mold so that they would not expose it to the other rooms. These guys are awesome and do such a wonderful and professional job! I would highly recommend them to anyone with any damage to your home.

Buyer beware - EFW is extremely disorganized and has a major lack communication! Our project…read moremanager acted like he had done this a million times over, told us to trust him and that he would take care of everything - So, that's what we did and boy did we learn our lesson. There were days when the workers wouldn't show up, alot of the work is super shotty and it took months to complete, despite a 6 week contract. They didn't patch before painting, so when I asked that they drop off the extra paint from the project so I could fix it, they told me they threw it out, but then someone else's half empty cans of paint ended up in my house. In one room, they even got paint all over the furniture. As far as the bathrooms, the tile work is beyond sloppy! There were times throughout the project that we'd get random calls that we were behind on payment and we NEVER ONCE were invoiced - How can I pay a bill that I never received? The PM would call and when we would respond stating the lack of invoice, he would simply state, "oh yeah I know, billing is behind"....um what? We immediately paid said invoices and life went on. Finally, once it was all complete and after not hearing from him/EFW for months we got slapped with a final bill even though we approved insurance to pay them directly. Turns out that the PM had NEVER submitted anything he was claiming to over to our insurance company so nothing got handled, no claims approvals, no final payouts were made to either party - we trusted them to handle the insurance part as their 'expertise'. The worst part was that we didn't even know this wasn't taken care of until some random lady reached out to us to collect - we never heard from the guy we were working with again... apparently he was just fired without ANY communication from EFW to us. This entire experience was an ABSOLUTE nightmare. It's our fault for "trusting" someone's word, so I take that blame, but the lack of service, customer care is sickening and I hope that someone else can learn from our mistake. This is YOUR home that these people will be in and I don't want anyone else to go through this. Run people. Run.

We had Terry remodel our 1940s bathroom - electrical, plumbing, tile, tub, painting, toilet, sink,…read morelighting, cabinet, exhaust fan, grab bars, counter, plaster repair - the works! It's now been about 4 months since he finished the work and each day I look at our new bathroom and think "wow!' He did a great job! He was patient and always responsive to any questions or issues, and cleaned up each day. Great workmanship too. He started out by measuring and answering any questions we had, offering ideas here and there but letting us make our own decisions. Unlike some other contractors, he did not give fancy 3D architectural renderings, nor did he accompany us to each supplier to pick out products. Here's what his process was, which was perfect for us. We received a proposal contract which listed each item or task, along with a cost allowance for each item. If we chose something more expensive than its allowance, the final price would reflect the increase. If what we chose cost less than the allowance, the final cost would go down by that much. So we had a bottom line price from the start and would have the final decision on expenses. He then also gave us a list of his suggested suppliers from which to pick out all of the products. We worked with those suppliers to make selections at their respective showrooms (they work with TLC regularly), and they forwarded our selections to Terry. A few selections we made were from suppliers not on his list, which was fine, but the places he suggested were where most of the items came from. When all selections were made, he provided us with a revised proposal contract reflecting our selections and revised costs. Then he - not us - did the ordering from each vendor to insure that all of the parts and pieces fit together and would work, plus that way his contractor discount was applied. His final contract to us was transparent and showed all prices. No additional markups, no change order fees, no nonsense. If someone wants computer-generated architectural renderings, having him present at each supplier meeting, one central showroom where every needed product and samples are all in one place, then this type of contractor isn't likely for you. If however, you want a remodeling contractor that not only provides the quote but also does the actual work himself, with reliable suppliers that work with him, with a fair price and a minimal amount of stress (if that's possible lol), then TLC's a good choice. Would we recommend TLC Contracting? If you haven't it already guessed: the answer is absolutely!
