Paint they got on our floor and left for us to clean up.
David C.

We will never use Emergency Fire & Water Restoration again or recommend them to anyone we know. They would barge in unannounced (they had a key to the unit) and leave mud (and sometimes paint) all over our hardwood floors. We often weren't even given the cutesy of a knock at the door when they arrived. We repeatedly asked them to at least knock when they arrived, and not only did they give little effort, they tracked mud/dirt all over our living areas and didn't clean when they left. "Cleaning" was factored into the massive bill, but we were the ones stuck cleaning up their mess. One of their employees even complained to us that they are paid very little and they often hire inexperienced people. This was evident by the low quality work we repeatedly witnessed. The pictures that were shown to our contact who was overseeing the project and he did not appear bothered in the slightest by our complaints. One day a young crew came and slammed down packages (thinking nobody was home). They were very loud and swore a lot. I called there supervisor and complained while they were outside playing on their phones. Some of these packages ruptured and our contact came out and seemed visibly upset that his crew behaved in such a way. We were told they were suspended. It took Emergency Fire and Water Restoration 3 months to finish the job. We were made to feel like a very low priority. We had to live among paint cans, dirt/dust, plastic, holes in the floor and wall for a long time. We are very lucky that we don't have children. This entire job should have been done within a month (this is what we were originally told!). There would be many days that nobody would show up to work on our place. It was tough to get updates from them/progress reports. I guess they got what they wanted though (lots of money). The invoice that we had to repeatedly ask for was very, very questionable. There were charges that we didn't understand and they failed to explain.

SERVPRO of Milwaukee North - Ceiling seamless outcome... perfect.

SERVPRO of Milwaukee North

I'm writing this after our original, fully documented review was removed...rather than this company…read moreaddressing the issues we raised. We are now approaching a year since Servpro North turned what should have been a straightforward mitigation job into a prolonged, expensive, and still-unresolved situation. I am a master carpenter who personally designed and remodeled our home. I understand industry standards, and the work performed here fell well below them. After Servpro placed equipment in our home, we spent three full weeks requesting its removal. We received no response, despite repeated, documented outreach from both us and our insurance company. The equipment then failed, releasing significant amounts of water from our top floor through to our basement. The result included: Newly installed hardwood floors permanently warped and discolored at the seams Sagging ceilings and compromised drywall Damaged personal property Materials impacted that raised asbestos-related concerns Ongoing disruption to our home and daily life What followed was equally concerning. Throughout the process, Brad did not provide accountability, a clear plan for remediation, or consistent communication. Multiple outreach attempts went unanswered. Instead of addressing the damage, we received a lien-related document that had no valid basis, which required us to retain legal counsel at our own expense to resolve. This added unnecessary cost and stress to an already difficult situation. Even after legal involvement, attempts to reach a resolution have not been successful. Months later, after Servpro had already been paid by our insurance company, we were presented with an additional invoice that had not previously been discussed or agreed upon. The insurance obviously company declined this submission. This invoice also included cleaning-related charges that had originally been described to us as complimentary due to unsanitary and unsafe site conditions created during the work. We also made multiple requests (well over a dozen) for MSDS documentation and did not receive it. This was thoroughly documented by our insurance team. During this time, I experienced a severe contact dermatitis reaction requiring medical treatment (Prednisone for an entire month). In an effort to resolve the matter and move forward, we offered to settle for a portion of the total damages (approximately $4,000 compared to an estimated $12,000+ impact). That proposal did not result in a resolution. We are reasonable and patient homeowners who made repeated good-faith efforts to communicate and resolve this situation directly before writing public reviews. All of the above is documented. At this point, the concern extends beyond the initial damage. It is the lack of communication, absence of accountability, and difficulty obtaining resolution that has made this experience so challenging. If you are considering hiring this company, it is important to understand not only the work itself, but how situations are handled if something goes wrong.

I feared the repercussions of declining his advancement due to his knowledge and accessibility of my home. (2) Servpro installed a temporary sink without asking my permission or obtaining approval from insurance and then charged $1,322 for it and the temporary sink leaked and caused more property damage which Servpro refused to rectify. Before they started work, Servpro was provided with Travelers estimate of the mitigation work which did not include a line item for a temporary sink. Prior to mitigation, Servpro did not request approval for a temporary sink. Servpro did not ask the homeowner if they would like a temporary sink. Servpro installed a temporary sink. A week later, there were leaks from the temporary sink which resulted in the homeowner having to pay $339.71 out of pocket for dehumidifiers to rectify the issue after Servpro refused to. Homeowner was then billed $960 for a temporary sink and $362 for the hook up of the temporary sink for a total of $1,322.

Bart Gaffney, the District Manager, explained the problems in detail. I trusted him completely. They got rid of everything necessary in the basement and cleaned and sanitized the areas of mold. Afterward, they cleaned out all our vents (and we have a lot of vents!). I was impressed by their professionalism, friendliness, and reasonable pricing. I could not recommend them more highly! I have asthma and allergies, and we needed the vents cleaned. ServiceMaster Restore was booked for Thanksgiving week, but Bart helped by telling us to get a special filter for our furnace which would help my breathing until they could get here to help us. It was a cold, snowy morning when Lawrence and Adam arrived, exactly on time, and after calling me to tell me they were en route. They carefully looked at the vents in each room, which were all located in the ceilings, and determined how to best clean all of them. They had to "reverse clean" the vents due to an unusual configuration, which Lawrence verified by crawling around in the attic and checking the duct work there to be sure nothing was missed. As if that was impressive enough, they continually ran up and down the 16 stairs to my condo to check on the air compressor running the vacuum, since it was 27 degrees outdoors. Six hours later, after insisting they wanted to skip lunch so they could get the job done as promised, my entire condo was smelling and looking cleaner. My husband and I opted to add the sanitizer to each duct, and we highly recommend that to anyone cleaning their ducts. 18 years of dust, going all the way back to drywall construction dust, were scrubbed and vacuumed out of the vents. When finished, Lawrence showed me the pictures of the ducts before and after the cleaning, as well as a video showing the dirt and debris, swirling like dust devils, into the vacuum hose. Oh...the challenge beyond what they already had to do...I had a new refrigerator delivered right as Lawrence and Adam set up the hoses for cleaning. The hoses had to be removed so the refrigerator could be brought up the stairs. Those delivery men forgot to bring something to cover the white carpet, but Lawrence and Adam helped with what they had, and weren't the least bit upset at having to do their set up twice. The entire company is professionally run, and dedicated to making sure the consumer understands the process and is happy with the results. Many thanks to all of you!
