With low light and candles on the table, the ambiance was as romantic as it gets. The door was propped open and beautiful music wafted in from around the corner. We started by sharing the tonnarelli pasta which had cacio cheese, lemon, mint, and Sichuan pepper. My first course was followed by duck with apricots and a caramelized raspberry reduction. The duck was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed the sweetness from the fruit and reduction that were paired with it. I ended the night with a strawberry semifreddo that was cold and refreshing. We loved the food and the atmosphere so much that we found ourselves there again the following night. On night two, the dining room was packed and we had the option of taking the last seat by the door or eating in their bakery next door. We opted for the bakery. There was one couple finishing when we were seated so we essentially had a private dining area for the night, which was perfect. They started us with bruschetta and olives and then we split the maltagliati with white ragu sauce, red pepper cream, and pecorino cheese. It was "lick the bowl" delicious! I got the chicken thighs stuffed with tomatoes and olives and served with a balsamic vinegar reduction, which was full of flavor. On our last night in Italy, I couldn't pass on a proper tiramisu. I can't say enough great things about this place. We literally just happened upon it based on the location of our accommodations but it was definitely one of the best finds of our entire trip.

I was close to my hotel and started looking for somewhere to eat. I had already passed Sofia earlier and really didn't want to backtrack even a few blocks. But after going the wrong direction again and somehow ending up right back near it, I figured that was a sign. So, Sofia it was. My ordering skills in Italy are still not exactly professional level. I really need a local Italian to help me. Yeah, I'm slow... remember, I'm from the South. I ordered the Mezza Maniche Carbonara. I mean, you can't really go wrong with noodles, cheese, and pork, right? A few minutes after ordering, they brought out this little appetizer-looking thing that I'm still confused about. It was this tiny little ball about the size of my thumb. I took one bite and it was absolutely delicious. Honestly, I'm not even sure I want to know what was in it, but at that point I was hungry enough not to ask questions. Then the pasta arrived. Drumroll... First bite? Absolutely divine. But when it comes to the food, we were deeply underwhelmed. We ordered the "Incredible Barbecue for Two," a huge platter of grilled pork chops, chicken breast, sausages, and beef filet. Everything, and I mean every cut and piece was overcooked, grilled to death, dry, and unseasoned. If I were the chef at Il Bacio, I'd slap my Grill Man for destroying fine meat like that! "Incredible" as in not credible? Yes! Not enjoyable in the least! My wife did enjoy her sweet and sour salad. The fried squash blossoms were all breading no flavor.
