They have little quirky gifts for children, mimicking old style toys like spinning tops and wooden soldiers. Me: Table for 2 please Old man (i assume the owner): {blank stare}...sorry I can't help you i'm thinking this guy is kidding and chuckle a little and pause for his reply He then points around the restaurant and says we don't have space. I look around and there are like plenty of open tables I look back at the old guy and he pauses...and says they are ALL reserved. queue awkward silence....now everyone is staring at us and i'm like ok let's GTFO. So, maybe we completely misread the situation but it seemed to us that a racist guy basically said "we don't serve your kind here." They'll get you what you need. The langoustines were delicious and perfectly cooked, and generously portioned. I can't remember what my husband had, but he liked it; it might have been a venison dish. I really enjoyed their selection of Fenitman's sodas. It was a great find, and I left feeling quite satisfied. Call ahead for a reservation, because they get booked up really quickly. As soon as we got off the boat, I called to make a reservation and we high-tailed it over there before everyone else figured out that it was the closest place to eat.

I am passionate about the Fairtrade Movement, and so I think it's…read morereally good that Dornoch, having had Fairtrade status for a few years, now has a wonderful shop dedicated to selling fairly traded products and helping people work their way out of desperate situations and get themselves a decent standard of living. I can do almost all of my Christmas and general gift shopping there, because there's such a wide variety of stuff from all over the world. Of course, I can't resist all the yummy food, chocolate and sweeties either! :D The atmosphere is always friendly - indeed the door is often opened for you as you go in! They play a lot of world music which makes a great change from the mainstream stuff that one hears in many shops. You're sure to find something really different for presents or even just to treat yourself! Fantastic little shop and I hope to see more Simply The Best shops opening elsewhere in the future :D
