Vanity Fayre is a super independent shop, situated in the centre of the main high street. Easily…read moreaccessible for anyone, as it is on the level with no stairs, unfortunately inside the shop to get to the clothes there is a mini step, which I guess would possibly make this a little difficult for individuals who are wheelchair bound. The shop has a selection of clothes for women of all shapes and sizes which are definately kept within the seasons, and fashionable, as well as being suitable for each individual. The prices are reasonable, and garments of high quality. The sales within the shop are always great and you have to get there quick to ensure you get what you want, as many of the garments are snapped up quickly. Vanity fayre has a fair selection and if they have nothing in that you want they are always willing to order anything in, in any style and any size. Very popular for there fashion shows, with models that are not stick thin but represent women, average women. I was in there just before my wedding to help my husbands grandmother chose and outfit, she is very self conscious, however she was totally at ease within minutes of being in the shop. The staff members are so polite, and not judgemental like some shop staff can be. There was no pushy sales pitch, just brilliant knowledgable advice on what suits and what doesn't. I was surprised that there were garments for young ladies as well as the mature lady. It is most certainly a popular shop, with many customers browsing the gorgeous selection of garments. Fascinators are also available to finish of your outfit, as well as maybe a bit of sparkle with some beautiful jewellery. I was very impressed with the shop, the items, but above all the service which was provided. This shop is a must for any lady who is self conscious. You will never feel uncomfortable here, the staff make you feel great and really give you a boost.

This is one of the pit stops along the route back to Edinburgh after Rabbie's Loch Ness tours. It's…read morelocated in a really cute area (yes, there's a bridge) and the shop is quite expansive. In fact, it's the only place I bothered to buy souvenirs from while in Scotland! It's a true one-stop shop. There's even an express cafe. Bathrooms are across the way. I'm happy with my magnets and mythical book.

This "restaurant" was our designated lunch spot for our guided tour from Edinburgh to Loch Ness…read more The tour guide company told everyone to pack a lunch, so I did. When we arrived, we got in line to order food, which could only be described as something between elementary school cafeteria and LA County Prison food. They had the breakfast menu out, but gave me an attitude for ordering breakfast items. The guy said "breakfast ended a while ago, a long time ago actually" but their paper menu was still posted, something they could've easily taken down. I had brought a sandwich with my tour-instructed packed lunch, so I got a soup to pair with it. After we ate, I was bussing my own table, and a female employee GRABBED MY WRIST and asked me where I got the sandwich. I told her I brought it as I was instructed, and she said "you wouldn't bring outside food into a restaurant would you?" I wanted to say "you call this a restaurant?" but I restrained myself as I didn't want to be stranded in Spean Bridge by my tour company. Long story short, the tour company should not be using this as their lunch stop, and it would be wise for the restaurant employees to be more understanding with tourists. Especially if they're receiving an extra few hundred customers per day from the tour companies. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Magical is the perfect word to describe this incredible bookshop! Shelves upon shelves of used…read morebooks to peruse while enjoying the cozy ambiance set by the fireplace crackling away in the center of it all - surrounded by Victorian style stained glass and decorative accents! And top it off with a spiral staircase - awesome vibes! The shop is family owned and located inside a very historic building that was once the Old Gaelic Church and was built in 1649! The books are organized by genre and then alphabetically by author's last name - so it's easy to browse. The extensive collection of antique prints is also quite impressive! Many of them well over 100 years old and all very surprisingly priced - covering various subjects including nature and historic maps! Fascinating pieces of history! I could easily spend hours here digging through them all - and the books too. The walkways are narrow and there are steps leading up into the entrance so it's definitely not handicap accessible. There's also an overflow of books piled on the floor in various places - it appears they sometimes run out of room on the shelves so that compounds the narrow situation. There were several people coming in with large baby strollers and it created chaos as no one could get by lol. Staff are helpful and friendly. They also sell nice tote bags with the shop name. I found several vintage cookbooks from the famous Le Cordon Bleu so I had to have those - also found a Victorian novel that looked ancient with a very intriguing introduction so I had to have that as well. We found a couple of silly antique prints of extinct birds from 1876 that we couldn't resist - excellent souvenirs! If you love bookstores, Leakey's is a MUST!! Unforgettable!

Let me preface this by saying- I love bookstores. I love reading, visiting libraries & bookshops,…read moreetc. I'm not sure why this is considered a must-see in Inverness however. It's a REAL bookstore. It's small, it's crowded with books. Yes, there's a neat spiral staircase inside, but unless you're in the market for some non-fiction books or some really old books, skip this. If you want to visit, step inside, take a look, and then leave. This will probably be an unpopular opinion, but everyone recommended we visit when we told them we'd be in town. But as we were traveling with carry-ons only there wasn't extra room to bring any books back.
