Dallas Makerspace just emailed me in 2025 about a billing dispute from 2016. Nine years later. My husband, who handled the membership cancellation, passed away during COVID, and now they're asking me to "provide his email" to prove a cancellation from almost a decade ago. At the time, they overcharged us, never issued a refund, and ignored multiple attempts to contact them. Their current outreach isn't just unprofessional--it's insensitive and deeply irresponsible. If this is how they manage member accounts and personal records, I would strongly advise anyone against trusting them with your payment information. This place is where creativity and ideas flow freely. People from a variety of backgrounds have come together to make stuff. If you can dream it, you can do it here. I came to their annual open house that allows you to take a tour of their facility, see the amazing array of equipment and tools in use, and learn how you can explore new skills or refine existing hobbies for your own enjoyment. The building is divided into different workshop rooms. Here were a few I had the opportunity to checkout on Saturday: -Woodshop -3D printing -Screen printing -Laser printing -Sewing -Glass bead & jewelry making -Auto repair & restoration -Video, photography & lighting -Picture framing -Pottery making -Book binding -Electronics -Pinball repair & restoration The list goes on. Even if they don't have an area that you are interested in, there is nothing stopping you from starting a special interest group here. Matter of fact, if you have a talent, you are welcome to teach classes here to help others learn a new hobby, art or skill. Most classes are under $10. This is a 501c3 non-profit organization that runs on the power and ideas of volunteers. Members recently voted to expand the building to create more space for each of these dedicated areas. If an area is really popular and needs more equipment, members can submit requests for additional equipment purchases. For example there was an entire wall of 3D printers hard at work thanks to their overwhelming popularity. They have individual and family memberships available. You have 24/7 access to the facility for about $60 a month (+$10 for each additional family member). You will meed to take classes before using any of the equipment in an area, but once you have been trained, you are free to create at will. I paid for a year membership roughly half a year before the pandemic hit, and when they started opening back up my membership had expired. I asked about an extension since I didn't have access to the facilities I was paying for, and the answer was a flat "no". They said I could have canceled at any time had I been paying monthly. I explained that I had paid for the yearly sub and they said "that's the risk you take for the discount". They went on to say that they didn't have the ability (technologically/accounting-wise) to make that happen, and even if they could... they wouldn't. I mean... if you're trying to keep people around, you probably should have some better customer service than that. The reality is that they had options: 1- give me an extension for the time I couldn't access the equipment, since this doesn't cost them anything, you'd think that's a no brained and then I'd re-up my membership when the time came, thus keeping me as a paying member at least for a while. 2 - Burn a bridge and risk me telling everyone I know how shitty they were and anyone else who might bring up DMS in conversation. I've seen quite a few makerspaces, and this one is BY FAR the biggest. I went for an informal blacksmithing event - and the crew that were there were incredibly welcoming. We had quite a bit of fun. They have just about any tool you could ever dream of, and their all-volunteer staff has done a spectacular job of setting up and growing their space. You can practice ceramics, machining, metalworking, welding, sewing, hot and cold glass work, 3D printing, woodworking, laser cutting and a ton of other topics. They even have a science lab. (That's awesome.) The most important thing that runs this sort of space is community, and it's very clear that the community here is hard working, talented and excited to share that love with the people who walk through their doors. This place is amazing and I have not even scratched the surface of what they offer. It is a non profit organization where you can take ALL KINDS of classes. Art, sewing, video editing, who knows what else! I personally came for a lock picking class. Weird, I know. It was held by a writing professor who took a legit lock picking certification program. She figured, if you are going to write about picking locks, you should know about picking locks. And an hour later, I could pick several kinds of locks. Then immediately went home to inspect my deadbolt situation. Anywhoo, I was completely blown away by the facility. It is a gem. Check it out. Take a weird class. Amazing playground for adults. Free/cheap classes will give you a satisfying taste of what membership has to offer. The equipment is well taken care of, mostly newer gear (not hand-me-downs like many other makerspaces), and a friendly social environment. The open houses are a great way to see what all the facility has to offer and ask questions from the members. read more

Calling all geeks, techies, and wood shoppers! If you have a creative mind, this place is for you!! There are computers that take your plain old photograph and makes it rad by printing it on a 3-D plastic plate, or you could print a 3-D statuette or bust of yourself!! AMAZING, huh?? It really is. There are areas for wood working, sewing, graphic design, soldering, and more. It is very low-key for being so high tech. It's member ran, and there is a membership fee, but we went as guests of a member who is also on the "board". If you only go once it would be memorable! Not sure if they generally give tours, but if you want, I can see if I could get you in for a looksie. Our kids were so intrigued, and so were their parents! ;) read more

All I need to say is 3D printers! This place is bad ass. They have tons of really cool things here, from woodworking, metal working, computers,sandblasting, almost anything you can think of is being done here.
