Instantly, you'll arrive upon a quaint, bright, and modern gallery space filled with beautiful works of art. There are a variety of vivid and whimsical pieces that are sure to catch your attention. There are mostly abstract pieces, and some unique surreal pieces too. The medium used is mostly acrylic paints, which is a personal favorite of mine. Miss Ginger Fox herself doesn't pressure you or watch you while you view her gallery which is great. This little treasure trove of the Bishop Arts District is a must-see after grabbing some Eno's Pizza or Emporium Pies. There are some signs that say "No Pictures" though, so please be respectful to the artist. Pricing is in the thousands, but I think they're worth it. Every piece speaks for itself and is abstract enough to put anywhere in your residence. As an (amateur) artist myself, this gallery inspires me to experiment with more accidental, broad, and messy strokes. If in the area, you must peep through and get inspired yourself!

I had to have the paintings professionally restored by a conservator with expertise in delicate Asian paper. Although I ended up using a different frame shop, they were always fair and reimbursed me for the costs. I wish them well and would use them in the future.

And unlike similar establishments, they take the time to help you one-on-one to create the best piece and experience possible. It's a great family friendly environment where you aren't limited to finishing your piece during a specific time or day. You can come back anytime you want until you're finished. They offer classes and camps over the summer and a ladies night on Thursdays. If you enjoy exploring your artistic side (even if you aren't very creative like yours truly) this is a fun way to feel like a Picasso and not have to paint by number. The ceramics selection is a bit smaller but they have plenty of fun things to choose from and if you ask, they may be able to order what you're looking for. We visited the Meadows Museum on a school field trip, and it was an outstanding experience from…read morestart to finish. The program was well organized and very engaging for students. They began by learning about the seven elements of art in a clear and age appropriate way. After that, they created their own clay sculptures, which allowed them to apply what they had learned in a hands on and meaningful way. The highlight was when a docent guided the students through the galleries and taught them about different art pieces. The explanations were thoughtful, interactive, and kept the students genuinely interested. Our class left inspired, excited, and talking about art long after we left. This was an excellent educational experience, and I highly recommend the Meadows Museum for school field trips or anyone looking for a rich and memorable art experience.

I found the Christian altarpieces from the 1600's decorated with saints and demons intriguing - some of the demons are quite fanciful, think "Here there be monsters." I also enjoyed the portraits of European nobility. The security guards here are stern, but also very knowledgeable - it's worth striking up a conversation with them. There's a small gift shop on the first floor carrying all the typical things you might expect: burnt silk shawls, well-made children's toys of natural materials, jewelry, postcards and books. The museum is quite small, but still worth a visit - the SMU campus is beautifully maintained and adds to the tranquility and calm you will experience here.
