I created a registry online for a bridal shower but with limited options online (which I have no problem with), I thought it would be beneficial for me to go in person to add items or at least create a list of recommended items to facilitate the gift-buying process for my guests. When I went into the store, one of the women at the register could not have seemed more displeased or bothered to be helping me. She was irritated that I had created an online registry in the first place and that I was in on a Saturday without an appointment. I reiterated that the intent of my visit was simply to add a few items, not to choose China and table placements (which of course would take much more of their time and attention). Neither women offered to help me (they weren't helping anyone else) but told me to just come back on Monday and to call the girl who is in charge of registries. I left completely amazed at the clear lack of interest to help me (or at least attempt to be nice and apologetic for not being able to help me), the rudeness, and the absolutely poor customer service. Madison has the cutest things (hence why I was going to register there) but unfortunately, because of this experience, will be very hesitant to return.

Visited Dallas over the weekend and discovered the design district. This area should be a must…read morego-to for all designers of every type. Several shops along the way are most inspiring and could take away someone's afternoon. Myself, a graphic designer by trade loves antique stores. We came across the Griffin Trading Company and was greeted by Steven, who is the store manager. He was full of excitement and enthusiasm while talking about his collections. I felt our small group had a connection with him. In store, there are many advertising collections from 3D dimensional items hanging from the ceiling or rafters to 2D items hanging on the wall. All in perfect or very clean condition. Had so much fun spending an hour getting to know Steven and hearing what his inventory is all about. Would love to own one of his Hannah Barbera pieces one day. If the price is right, I may have to drive a truck out to pick them up. Griffin Trading Company has a website and an Instagram account to get an eyeful of their inventory. You should go look them up. I found this exquisite 3D signage that looked to be in decent condition and was ready for updating. "Ink" in bold black and white san serif lettering with some hint of LED wiring left over. I can easily spruce this piece up and bring it back to life. Most likely will hang it in my office. Perfect for display purposes and jazz up my place a bit. It's a smallish space, but well-curated. Some items were not priced; I asked one staff member the price; then another wanted to charge me nearly twice the amount at the register... This kind of dissimulation, intentional or not, is distasteful. Each item should be priced so this doesn't happen. It also saves staff being asked questions.

She also made sure to check each person to make sure they're on pace. They have everything you need but you are welcome to bring your own machine to class so you can learn to work with it. They make you do threading three times so you can remember well. I love that bc I've taken sewing class before at other places where we did threading once and I didn't remember that's why I came to this one. It was fun and super cool we got to make something!

New hobby unlocked (!!!) I had some of the most fun,…read morerelaxing, and engaging time trying pottery with the wheel for the first time a few weeks ago as I celebrated my rotation around the sun. It was a marvelous experience from start to finish, and that's all thanks to the awesome instructor, Corrie, who was super patient and oh so helpful in lending a hand (literally) to give our projects the pep they needed if they were looking a bit sad. The projects started off in the third stage (after being wedged and centered) which was a very nice of them since I heard that the first steps are annoying and time-consuming. They do offer a 4-week pottery class that meets weekly where you get to learn all the stages from start to finish, which I will absolutely sign up for once I'm in the area more consistently. We were able to mold whatever container our hearts (or clay, really) desired. I came in wanting to make a chawan (matcha bowl) and I think the shape turned out much better than anticipated, but I'm afraid it'll shrink in the kiln, oof. Their glazing and firing process will take about 3 weeks after we make our piece, so I've yet to see the final product but will cross my fingers it'll be functional for my daily matcha routine. You get to choose which glaze from a variety of options, and they'll do that step for you. But in the intensive class, you get to paint and do more detailed work, and I got to see some of the finished pieces that were on display after finishing up my piece. It's super inspiring to see the variety of pieces you can make, and I'm already dreaming of other projects to embark on~ What's even better is this studio also offers more than pottery, including painting, dyeing fabrics, sewing, and crochet courses too, all of which I lovelovelove.
