Doing a private class is much more expensive. As is, it was $70 for this particular class. Read the prerequisites in advance and follow the instructions for your safety. You need to wear closed toe shoes, pull your hair back, and wear all cotton clothes. It's hot, especially during the summer months when the kilns are baking and the outside temperature is extreme. I was told that the last time my ZTA sister was there, one of the workers passed out because of the heat. Take the precautions seriously. Arrive early! Complete your waiver forms online before you come. You will create your artwork in the order you arrive. This is okay if you don't want to go first and don't mind waiting. Sadly, I was the last to arrive, so my ZTA sisters had to wait and watch every single student make their piece until I went. You will do less than you think. All of it is guided and you will have someone holding the hot poker WITH YOU the entire time. This is a good thing because you can relax and enjoy the experience without the fear of messing up. The biggest worry you will have is what color or colors to choose for the piece you decide to create. I went with the flower which was more complicated than the hummingbird feeder. I used the colors teal and nebula. These colors were so popular, they didn't have enough at the end, so they laid my glass shards on the table where I rolled them into the piece instead of dipping them like everyone else. You will need to return a week later to pick up your piece. It takes time for the glass to cure without thermal shock. I'm likely to come back and do this again, but I might do it with the ash remains of a loved one. They have these beautiful pieces that you weave the ashes into and then everyone can take a piece home of their loved one. I found this experience intriguing and would encourage others to give it a try too.

New hobby unlocked (!!!) I had some of the most fun,…read morerelaxing, and engaging time trying pottery with the wheel for the first time a few weeks ago as I celebrated my rotation around the sun. It was a marvelous experience from start to finish, and that's all thanks to the awesome instructor, Corrie, who was super patient and oh so helpful in lending a hand (literally) to give our projects the pep they needed if they were looking a bit sad. The projects started off in the third stage (after being wedged and centered) which was a very nice of them since I heard that the first steps are annoying and time-consuming. They do offer a 4-week pottery class that meets weekly where you get to learn all the stages from start to finish, which I will absolutely sign up for once I'm in the area more consistently. We were able to mold whatever container our hearts (or clay, really) desired. I came in wanting to make a chawan (matcha bowl) and I think the shape turned out much better than anticipated, but I'm afraid it'll shrink in the kiln, oof. Their glazing and firing process will take about 3 weeks after we make our piece, so I've yet to see the final product but will cross my fingers it'll be functional for my daily matcha routine. You get to choose which glaze from a variety of options, and they'll do that step for you. But in the intensive class, you get to paint and do more detailed work, and I got to see some of the finished pieces that were on display after finishing up my piece. It's super inspiring to see the variety of pieces you can make, and I'm already dreaming of other projects to embark on~ What's even better is this studio also offers more than pottery, including painting, dyeing fabrics, sewing, and crochet courses too, all of which I lovelovelove.

The experience included a topless server (male) for our party, an instructor and a nude model (also male). Something else that wasn't specified was if you had a female model if you would also have a female server? So not sure on that. I would guess she would be in a bikini or bra top as no nude photography is allowed and they walk around during the entirety of the event serving drinks and handing out pencils as needed. This would be a fun event to celebrate bachelorette parties (obviously), but you could also utilize their services for any type of gathering. I can so see a ladies night in with my friends doing this, but she also mentioned divorce parties (in which case can we have a group of male models I'll take 5 thank u), birthdays for the artsy friend, baby shower because clearly they've seen someone nude and nobody likes baby shower games (she didn't say that but I couldn't resist).... anyways, I digress. The only thing I wish I'd had more of was explanation. Some of them felt kind of rushed and I had no idea how to shade which was detrimental to my artistry (jk my hands are detrimental to my artistry more than anything else)... At our event, Bobby the server refilled drinks and took care of us during the drawing portion. The instructor and muse were fabulous at providing instruction and maintaining a sophisticated AND fun environment. It was fun to learn drawing techniques, but my skill was just alright! Each round went pretty quickly, so I wish I could have taken a bit more time to draw.
