They began by learning about the seven elements of art in a clear and age appropriate way. After that, they created their own clay sculptures, which allowed them to apply what they had learned in a hands on and meaningful way. The highlight was when a docent guided the students through the galleries and taught them about different art pieces. The explanations were thoughtful, interactive, and kept the students genuinely interested. Our class left inspired, excited, and talking about art long after we left. This was an excellent educational experience, and I highly recommend the Meadows Museum for school field trips or anyone looking for a rich and memorable art experience.

I found the Christian altarpieces from the 1600's decorated with saints and demons intriguing - some of the demons are quite fanciful, think "Here there be monsters." I also enjoyed the portraits of European nobility. The security guards here are stern, but also very knowledgeable - it's worth striking up a conversation with them. There's a small gift shop on the first floor carrying all the typical things you might expect: burnt silk shawls, well-made children's toys of natural materials, jewelry, postcards and books. The museum is quite small, but still worth a visit - the SMU campus is beautifully maintained and adds to the tranquility and calm you will experience here.

It's not a huge place but there are some fun things to check out. If you have kids there are art areas to draw and even a section where you're encouraged to touch the displays. Didn't take too long to go through this since we didn't want to stop and draw (we actually get to participate in art stuff on our own often enough). Staff were really friendly here as well. I would suggest giving this place at least a little of your time, especially since it doesn't cost anything.

The Crow Museum of Asian Art is within walking distance from the DMA and Nasher Sculpture Center. I…read morewas delighted to discover it was free and connected with UTD. The museum is two and a half stories showcasing pieces from different countries in Asia as well as providing information on various historical periods. The staff were friendly and helpful as I explored the museum. The pottery and tapestry from various Asian countries are one of my favorite parts of Asian exhibits. If you come within 30 minutes to an hour to closing time, I recommend heading upstairs first, you won't get access upstairs once there's fifteen minutes to closing. They also have doors that lead outside with plenty of places to sit, a large statue and big stairs that lead to the ground floor. This was a pleasant surprise and I enjoyed my time here.

The staff were friendly and answered any questions we had. They have a couple of other exhibits available that you can pay for. We opted to stick with the main exhibit they offered. The museum had a wierd smell in some parts of the exhibit. I believe this was due to nearby trash bins and food preparation for an event. We enjoyed learning and viewing biblical and historical accounts from centuries ago. They have a big mural in the back of the museum that showcases influential people spanning decades which is worth checking out. Their gift shop ranges from affordable to pricey, however I enjoyed looking around for a souvenir. You could easily spend an hour or more here, the museum is all one story. They have a lovely garden (Via Dolorosa Sculpture Garden) adjacent to the museum with statues dedicated to Jesus marking his journey to the Cross. They have benches to sit throughout the garden surrounded by flowers and butterflies. They have a survivor tree dedicated to 9/11 victims and their families. The Scuplture Garden was peaceful, simple yet beautiful.

Dallas has a great Arts District. In just a few blocks of downtown, there are several museums (DMA,…read moreCrow, Nasher), performance halls (Meyerson, Winspear, Moody), and more. If you're exploring the area, Green Family Art Foundation should be on your itinerary. Although its a newer organization (founded in 2021), this non-profit art foundation is already making a huge name for itself in Dallas and beyond. It hosts three exhibits per year in its gallery and makes grants to museums for the benefit of and to educate others about contemporary artists and their work. I stopped by this past Saturday after a visit to the DMA. I was devasted to miss a past exhibit ("A Room Hung with Thoughts: British Painting Now," when I was visiting Dallas last May - I missed the exhibit by one week), so I was determined not to miss their current exhibit when I was back in town last weekend. I made it this time! The foundation's gallery is just a couple of blocks from the DMA and one block from the Nasher and the Crow (include it in your art crawl). It's not large, but it's free to visit, and if their past exhibits are any indication, they'll have some interesting contemporary art on display when you visit. The current exhibit - "Fields of Vision: Dallas Collects" - is open through August 2026, and it was incredible. It brings together artworks acquired by Dallas collectors since 2020. I was welcomed when I walked in and offered a free gallery guide (a very nice booklet, which I took a copy of so that I could look up the artists at home later). Then I was off. There are plenty of interesting pieces in the exhibit, but I was particularly drawn to pieces by Kohshin Finley, Jeffrey Gibson, Jammie Holmes, Danielle McKinney, Ravelle Pillay, Berndnaut Smilde, and Grace Weaver. (I only knew of McKinney and Holmes before my visit.) Stop by when you're next in the area and get inspired by works by artists working today. After leaving lunch I decided to cruise around the area and see if any interesting shops were open, Out of the corner of my eye I glimpsed a shinny object in a store window. So, I put the auto in reverse and backed up to see what it was. I knew the minute I looked in the window what the store was. Ive been seeing their advertisements for several years in magazines with the intention of going by. The second I walked in I was dazzled! Really, this is one of the most impressive retail shops ive ever visited! These are world class Specimens curated by the proprietor. Micah Gilbert is a geologist, paleontologist,and gemologist. With degrees in mining and geological engineering,he knows where to source these fabulous specimens he offerers. The first level showcases paintings from various decades and is where the gift shop is located. The upstairs showcases local artists and has a study filled with autobiography and biography books. Though the study is filled with memorabilia, the furniture in the study needs an upgrade. I appreciated learning about the history of athletes in the DFW area.
