Peaceful place to sleep. However they ban for life if caught or suspected dating. I was suspected of having a relationship with a young lady. Both of us were called to the office to be interrogated. We denied relationship and only confessed to friendship. Both her and me got banned for life. I came back, they recognized me and told me the ban was lifetime. Went here today for intake during the appropriate hours with my 7 year old daughter, the security guard was being racist and acting like he didn't want to let us in (yes Caucasian people need help too) , he spoke in a very aggressive and rude manner to where it even scared my daughter and she jumped when he started getting smart with me. I could tell my daughter was scared and I did not feel safe. I don't feel like this is a very safe place for children and I feel like it could be traumatic to have to be at this facility dealing with someone acting like they would harm you or your child if they had the chance or was careless enough. Or having to deal with being bullied by staff or even security (someone that's supposed to protect staff and members) I will be looking elsewhere and I pray for the safety of anyone that stays at Dallas life. read more

GAS LEAK!! EGG SMELL! OR SOME TYPE OF FUME! PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF HAVING HEADACHES AND OTHER SIDE EFFECTS!!! I'm a Vet, in the "veterans program". When the shelter turned on the heat/furnace during winter Jan. 2026, I started smelling a fume/gas and getting PAINFUL headaches/migraines, as well as many other residents. i also was nauseous,shaky,neck was stiff and achy,heart beating fast,weak,etc. I spoke to Jeff and he told me that I had to go back and sleep in my room. I decided to sleep on the "church" chairs instead. next day Isaac was VERY upset and ONLY concerned about me being on the "church" chairs to sleep and didnt care one bit about me hurting and not able to sleep. That was his first response for the longest. I asked for him to call the EMS and continually shared with him that legally this wasn't safe for people to be in. Isaac had a "Mechanic" come look into it and the mechanic askEd other residents if they smelled anything or had issues. After their reply being yes, Isaac agreed to the gas/fumes but they couldn't find it and therefore can't fix it, and "will try" but don't know when. In my opinion, I personally feel they don't want to dish out the money towards it and do what is necessary to get the job done quickly and effectively. the "Veterans program" Jessica told me to sleep on the floor on a mat after I shared that I can't go back onto the second floor because of the smell that causes the headaches. 2nd night, headache and migraine AGAIN! I'm also sooo concern for other individuals and families with their babies that stay there. They said it will take some time to work on it. maybe a week or more(month or so?). I do understand that fixing certain things can take time but I also understand that if you can get a professional company that has great experience in doing exceptional work,you can hit the nail on the head/problem rather quickly. Only option Jessica and Tim "vet program" gave me was to move to Salvation Army shelter. Others residents have shared with me that I don't want to go there and Salvation Army is a horrible shelter. Tim told me initially that Dallas life is the best shelter in Dallas. So why are they giving me the only option to salvation army. I asked if they can put me into a hotel until the problem gets fixed. Jessica-"Veterans program" said No. Truthfully, I rather not stay at Dallas life for my Lifes sake. Because Im tired of hurting. I hope this doesn't happen again next winter when the gas furnace turns on again. One time I asked Jessica "veterans program assistance", if she decided to work there (vet assistance at Dallas Life) because she cares for people and her reply was...."No. Adults are dum, they do dum things" and "I only care about the elderly and kids just a little little bit". Stayed here 4 years ago and left within a month. I moved to Dallas but the person I met on Tinder ended up ghosting me so I had no place to go, so I went to Dallas life because Our Calling suggested them. When I got to Dallas life everyone seemed chill, the staff at intake seemed really nice but once I got in, the place wasn't all that clean, but the bathrooms were atrocious with black mold growing on the walls. I was desperate for a place to sleep and stay safe so I just dealt with it. I joined the program and I didn't realize what I got myself into. When you join the program, they own you and tell you what to do. They told me I could only listen to Christian music. Even if it's my own personal music on my air pods. You're not allowed to talk to the person of the opposite sex (which is dumb). They will force you to go to an evangelical church later on in the program. No you can't choose what church to go to. They also treat LGBTQIA folks like trash. I saw them turn a trans woman away because they told her if she stays at Dallas life, she has to wear men's clothes and detransition. That's messed up. I'm trans myself but this was way before I transitioned. This was back in 2021. Don't be fooled by the sweeneys fake kindness. They are part of the MAGA cult. They drink Trump's Kool aid. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone unless you're a MAGA cult member, then you'll get along very well with them. Stay far away from this place. read more

Hell this place is horrible. There's two programs pay to stay if u have a job or income or you can enter the place with no job. If you do have a job you're able to go off the premises if you don't have a job you have to stay on premises and sit in a little freaking room on the first floor with your kids while they're falling asleep tired ready to lay down cranky ect. Or sit in the chapel smh. You have to be out of your rooms at 745 and can't go back in until like 530pm... bunch of crap the folks who completed this program must have really had nothing to look forward to in life cause no way.. by the grace of God I was called to a great program and only spent 5 days there lol.. read more

Let's just say that although I really don't want my buisness out there like this , I feel that the truth about this place is a bigger issue than my ego . I got in a situation where I had to leave my housing of 10 years in an expedient manner of time and my funds weren't quite right to go into a hotel for an extended amount of time . I chose to stay at Dallas Life for a short period of time , which due to some issues beyond my control ( paperwork, inspection of my new home , etc ) , was a little longer than expected. The facility itself is very clean , with little to no physical wear and tear ( the remodeling of recent years is very impressive ) . The Staff , for the most part are attentive and the MAJORITY of the staff really want to see you win and prosper . However , The Securty Team is another story . The Dallas Life has a rehabilitation program that teaches life skills and accountability to its enrollees that sign up for the 10 month program . In exchange for housing and meals , the attend classes designed to uplift them spiritually, teach them life skills , and afford them access and referrals that will better their situation and life when they leave the facility . As a part of their stay , they are sometimes assigned different chores ( cooking , laundry , maintenance, security) . Most of them are respectful and downright helpful in helping new guests navigate all the rules and regulations put in place for everyone to remain safe ( let's remember it is a public shelter and precautions need to be in place ) . The problem is communication regarding those very rules . There is a major disconnect between the guests assigned to periodically monitor security and the ACTUAL people hired as Security. One person tells you one thing , and here come someone else with another version threatening to pink slip you which leads to you being asked to leave . It's super frustrating and aggravating when your trying to explain that you were told something different and your being rudely dismissed and threatened to be kicked out . Me myself , I tried not to be in the building as much as possible because from the moment I walked in I was uncomfortable with the " Authority " element . It was very much giving " power in the wrong hands with a sprinkle of confusion " . Like I said , the MAJORITY of the staff were super nice . It's certain ones ( who seem to be the common denominators amongst all the guests that I heard had similar uncomfortable encounters with ) that make it hard to feel at ease - they really make you feel like they don't want you there other than to get a feeling of euphoria in writing you up and kicking you out in almost every encounter you have with them . It's weird and stressful. It makes you as a client feel institutionalized and degraded. Maybe a few training sessions with how to deal with the guests in a more inviting way and being on one accord with the rules would benefit both the staff and clients. Dallas Life does good work , but it needs to weed out the common denominators that make the clients uneasy. read more

I had an awful experience with a female staff member. I'm a 41 single female who is paralyzed waist down and confined to a wheelchair. I found myself with no where to turn and homeless recently. Being a Dallas resident I'm familiar with the homeless shelters. I was looking forward to going through their program so that I could get back on my feet. I arrived early, about 8 am on a a Tuesday and went to the door. A very nice gentleman answered and I explained my situation. He said no problem, come back at 10 for intake and we will get you checked in. I arrived back at 10:07 went back to the door and a women opened it. She very rudely said "can I help you?" I said "I was told to come back at 10 for intake." She replied "we don't do intake on Tuesdays." I explained the gentleman who was here earlier told me to come back at 10. I explained I was homeless. Didn't feel the need to explain the fact I'm also wheelchair bound given the obvious. She looked at me, as if I was bothering her, and said "I don't k ow what you're talking about, I told you we don't do intake on Tuesdays." Then she literally slammed the door in my face. I was left to sleep on the street in my wheelchair, developed a massive pressure sore and was hospitalized. All she had to do was help me. That's her job. Intake is Monday-Friday. I'm aware of that. Instead she lied to my face, failed to offer any other form of assistance, say maybe another shelter I could go to. People like that don't deserve to have the jobs they have. read more

This place is a scam. I first went there during my sever injury recovery to my shoulder and was kicked out because Mizz Sweeny said I reminded her of a former refuge seeker/homeless. I just left there after a couple brief stays in between stays there. Tha bathrooms on 3rd floor and 1st are toxic, they disrespect those in need, I was paying to stay, and they talked to me like I owed them something or like they owned me. This is a Christian founded homeless and recovery shelter downtown. It is the largest in North Texas. I've been volunteering here in the medical clinic for two years now and there are so many great services offered here for those in need. The most interesting and dynamic part of Dallas Life is a good portion of the regular staff were former residents needing assistance and recovery. Now they have the opportunity to pay it forward and help others get back on their feet as well. I spent from August of 2019 until the first of May 2020 at Dallas Life. and I have to be totally honest. Staying at Dallas life Foundation you will receive three meals a day, and a bed to sleep in. the beds are old hospital metal Frames with a mattress and a pillow. You will also have to attend classes that are completely unnecessary. Breakfast are served at 5:30 in the morning, lunch is around 12, and dinner is about 4:30. If you are a diabetic and need a snack at night they will give you a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I always thought that a Christian organization would allow men and women to talk and worship together as children of God. but if a supervisor sees you just talkin to a person of the opposite sex. they will give you a warning and if you get caught talking to them again you will be kicked out of Dallas life. when I first arrived at Dallas life the meals we're fairly decent if you could ignore the roaches crawling on the wall in the cafeteria. We accepted the roaches because of the construction that taking place. I was told living at Dallas life would be culture shock and yes that was the truth. you have to take a shower everyday, and the showers are divided buy shower curtains with nothing covering the back of the shower. The toilets had no doors just walls, and the urines are right across from the toilets. there is no privacy whatsoever it is more like being in a prison. they have a convenience store, that accepts EBT cards. a lot of their Foods is from the volunteers who was helping Feed Us. I asked one of the supervisors how they could get away with that, and he said that the people volunteered to food to Dallas Life. not the people stay in there so they could do anything they wanted to with it. so the meals in the cafeteria was getting smaller portions then we were before the convenience store started accepting EBT cards. the reason I had to leave is I could not stand all the lying that are supervisors were telling us.The lady over security said that to disrespect her, was like disrespecting God. when we had to be moved to a hotel because of the quarantine because of coronavirus 19 oh, we were told anything that was left in our lockers would be okay. that was another lie, because they took out everything from the lockers and said they threw them away, I lost over $800 worth of clothing myself. and yes they still have bed bugs at Dallas life. I hope that after the construction is finished everything they promised will be true. read more

This place is a fantastic shelter and ministry in the heart of Dallas. They have a success rate 10 times higher than the national average, and they truly care about their residents. I bring my students down here once a month to serve dinner, and the residents are kind and grateful for what Dallas Life has done for them. If you know anyone who is homeless or doesn't know where their life is going, help them get to Dallas Life. They offer classes, computer training, job search and housing, three hot meals a day, and a warm bed to sleep in. read more

Very cliquish. Very loud and rude people at 5 AM. The lights come on and some people start hollering back and forth waking everyone else up. Same in the evenings after 9:30PM when when some people have to work the next day. They preach kindness and fairness and Christian values while allowing some people (mostly those whose 'jobs' are to help others while being a resident as well) to be rude and unfair to some. Great services mentioned but not always available. The church services are wonderful. Most of the people working, volunteering and living at Dallas Life are wonderful, kind, loving people. Some could use some discipline and lessons in all of the above. New people seem to be lost. Required to do certain things to reside at Dallas Life but not really given information about things they may need. Or how to get/receive certain things. No smoking on premises, which is fine, but so many smokers who have to 'hide' their cigarettes, while Dallas Life knows they are lying and can see them smoking outside the premises. Seems counterproductive and encourages deceit. Silly. Offer a requirement of no smoking on the premises and leave it at that. Why make people lie and hide their vices?? read more

i want to apologize to this place DALLAS LIFE for some of the bad things i said on my review but i had a really bad experience there and seen alot of evil thing going on there,but then i meet this man that also stay there and every time you see him, he smiling or praying.i think his name is Robert or something but he convince me that their is a lot of good thing that DALLAS LIFE do and for one week he told be to focus on those good thing and not to see the thing that i think is wrong,and after looking at the people that come and go in that place and walking around for days they do help a lot of people, Robert also taught me that when ever their is a lot of human beings involve that their going be flaws and that why we much not complain but pray and try our best to make a difference. yes it still need a lot of work at DALLAS LIFE but i want to be a part of the solution and not the problem.
