After needing lunch one day and not having better options, I popped in. Didn't realize it had a diner-like vibe with a counter which is cool. Server wasn't quick, but that's fine given they make everything fresh. I got buffalo chicken tenders and fries. Really good stuff, and again, freshly made. Reasonably priced too. Decided to try a hot wiener alongside it. I wasn't a fan of the hot dog itself which had an off flavor to it, however the toppings totally saved it. That stuff could make anything taste good. Vanilla shake was good too, and again, affordable. Didn't realize these guys were Greek, so will be back to try the chicken souvlaki. Not bad, but Gray's/King's Papaya or any of the Sabbret hot dog stands in the City are better. But if you're not in the City and you're in dire need of a dawg, this'll do in a pinch. I LOVE businesses like this: no-nonsense, frill-free, hearty food that's cheap and homemade. My boyfriend had been chomping at the bit to try Dallas Hot Weiners and when we found ourselves in Saugerties this weekend, we stopped by for lunch. Set right off of 9W in the middle of town, this place gets a lot of traffic, and with just a few tables and stools in the restaurant, it can be tough to find a place to sit. We settled for two stools along the bar, where you can watch the cooks prepare the burgers, fries, and everything else patrons will order. While they have a decent variety on their menu to satisfy picky eaters--hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, and even a salad that didn't look half-bad when prepared--there's really only one reason you come to Dallas Hot Weiners. The dogs! And while some people rave about them, I found them merely meh. I ordered my hot weiner with "Dallas Sauce," the restaurant's famous special sauce, along with onions and sauerkraut, and BF ordered the same. We shared a plate of shoestring fries, fried golden brown without being overcooked or tasting of old oil. The hot dogs aren't grilled, they're boiled, and there's no special recipe to the dogs themselves: they're just plain hot dogs you pull out of a back of Ballparks. That didn't appeal to me at all. And I found the Dallas Sauce to be imbalanced and have far too much black pepper. I'd much rather prefer plain Gulden's mustard on my hot dog, and if I'm getting that, then the Dallas Hot Weiner is seriously nothing special. My boyfriend liked it considerably more than I did, but he also calls me a "hot dog snob" for rarely liking anything less than a Nathan's dog straight from Coney Island. But considering I can buy two of these hot dogs for the price of one Nathan's, I'll deal with the sub-par weiner in exchange for a filling and cheap lunch. Some of the best hot dogs around! In all three locals the food is consistently good, served fast, and the wait staff is always friendly. They also serve up burgers, souvlakis, chicken patties and more, but don't go here if you're expecting high end gourmet food, this is straight up diner fair. When I'm feeling very much the carnivore I'll get the Bacon cheeseburger with Dallas Sauce and onions.
