We strongly recommend against anyone hiring Emeric DeGaul to handle an estate sale in their homes…read more He presented himself very professionally initially and provided us with good references, but did not sell many of our belongings up for sale and let us down at every turn in our prestigious Preston Hollow home estate sale. 1) We signed a contract with him months in advance, and although he informed us we would need to be moved out for approximately 3 weeks for him to conduct the presale process and public sale, he never told us until a week prior to the sale that he would need to actually live at our house during that time -- 2-1/2 weeks free of charge while we paid all home expenses! 2) Emeric assured us he was an expert in antique furniture sales and had many potential buyers, but he sold very few of our valuable antiques and got very little money for them. 3) He is the master of nickel-and-diming people: we sold an outdoor beverage cooler, who our landscaper asked if he could buy for $100, and I handed over Emeric's 30% commission to him, but he then demanded I give him an additional $15 because he had been planning to sell it for $150. 4) He also assured us he would have a team at the public sale to ensure our home was not damaged -- but we found a large hole in the wall from someone ripping down a large tv bracket - which Emeric had witnessed and not disclosed to us. When we informed him he owed us $250 for the repair, he agreed, then sent a letter with only $125 and BS excuse for why he wouldn't pay for the entire repair. The entire process was a huge disappointment on every level -- especially the small amount of money for which he sold the contents of our home.
