Shopped for 2 days at one of JLA's estate sales. Wonderful, kind people working for Carol. Two helped bag my purchases and carried them to my car during a very busy and crowded time. Prices were fair and clearly marked, and staff was available to answer questions without my having to find one. Merchandise organized and displayed well, making shopping easy. Despite this being a huge sale attended by a large crowd, the atmosphere was quiet and calm, especially noted at Carol's checkout. I'll be following future sales. My 100 year-old Aunt died this past summer in Dallas, TX. I am the Executor of her estate, and I live in Salem, OR. My Aunt had beautiful things, but the "high-end" estate auction companies were only interested in pieces they could sell for more than $5000. And they would just take that item--not the rest of the apartment that I was tasked to clear out. They were not the help I needed since the estate continued to pay $6500 per month (her rent in the independent senior living community she had lived in for 25 years.) I needed to get the apartment emptied pronto, but I had to follow the Will which stipulated I would sell her belongings. This is where JLH is the best of all possible options. Carol is a highly qualified appraiser who knows what she is looking at. She won't sugar coat the fact that the fair market value is not the same as what someone will pay for it in a reasonable time frame. If you have heirs to satisfy they aren't wanting to wait for the perfect buyer who may never come. And I have a disability. Air travel is difficult. Carol has a separate service (separate from appraisals) where she will move everything out of the apartment or house (for a moving fee that is fair) and either sell it for you, donate it or throw it away. My gawd what a relief! She is meticulous in keeping track of all the tiny, but valuable, gew-gaws and trinkets and you-name-its (large furniture too) and paying you your half of the proceeds. Yes, she charges half of whatever she sells for you. When I consider what she saved me from having to do, which would have taken me months of time I can't spare, I am so grateful to JLA Treasures and its owner, Carol. She has been fair and forthright from the get-go. She has access to three methods to market your things; showroom, estate sale or online at auction or something like an eBay store. And she has contacts. If probate requires that you appraise the entire contents of a home you might well need a generalist like Carol, a fine arts appraiser and a jewelry appraiser. There's another headache she helped me avert--and her recommendations did not disappoint. They were responsive and professional to an exceptional degree. I have nothing but good things to say about JLA. I'll add that if you balk at the price you have not thought through what it would take for you to do it. read more

Fair, honest, and hard working. Terrific warehouse available for off-site estate sales, too! I also appreciate police presence at any given estate sale. (Believe me, the public can be downright horrible and even treacherous without on site police presence to moderate things and keep trouble to a minimum!) We are moving cross country to a smaller home, so had a lot of furniture, artwork and household items to sell. We hired Carol Matesic of JLA Treasures to conduct a "moving sale" for us and she and her team did a great job. The sale netted enough to recoup a large portion of our moving costs, and Carol took some pieces back to sell from her showroom or auction online so there will likely be additional proceeds Most importantly, she and her staff are all knowledgeable, personable and straightforward. They know what sells and how to price it, do a great job of displaying and organizing things, and they are truly the nicest people to do business with. They are so honest that, when one of them found $30 in cash tucked in the back of a drawer in my daughter's desk, they brought it straight to me! RUDE RUDE RUDE following me around saying sale closes in 10 minutes Turning off lights in house before sale end. Seems to me... they are only concerned about distribution of articles in estate to other dealers. I made an offer on a piece but was given retail price or above because I think it was really reserved for a friend/dealer. I pity the families who trust them to liquidate an estate only to have estate cherry picked by dealers and probably no care for the rest. I waited in line to make my offer on an unmarked item long enough to realize all in front of me were shop owners / dealers chatting with the folks "managing " the sale. Wow can you say rude? These people had a piece out at the trash and then tried to market it as something it was not. When I inquired about it, it had water damage. The women, who didn't know the piece was even there, shot me a price I asked if she would take less. She was really rude and disrespectful. I left and did not purchase. My husband and I go to estate sales every weekend I will avoid theirs like the plague. When we asked to get a price in the first place the gentleman we spoke with seemed off put by having to find a price on an item they clearly had no intention of selling in the first place. Again, avoid these people. Just plain RUDE. read more

I was present at the estate sale in question. The reviewer Pilar S. is entirely accurate. I know because I am the woman who was accused of stealing a bottle of perfume which I had earlier set down in one of the rooms. I was stopped at the door by a burly "security guy" who was rude, unprofessional & quite aggressive. The business owner is confabulating when she claims this was handled "in house" since there was no theft to be handled. There was no item to be recovered. They absolutely were confiscating women's purses at the door--tried to take my 85 year old mother's purse which scared my mom half to death. Many customers were complaining to the business owner about this while I was there. I also witnessed the Fort Worth police arriving. The parking was handled so poorly that the neighbors called them! Again, business owner is not accurate. Many items were not priced & clothing & boxes & plastic bags littered the floor. I have attended estate sales for years & this was the worst---rock bottom. There really was not a way to test the equipment on-site and, indeed, we found that it was in need of repair. When we contacted Carol (several weeks after the purchase, I might add) , she handled the matter very graciously and professionally. I have been shopping at JLA Treasures Estate Sales for many years, and have always found Carol and her staff not only very courteous and professional.. but friendly and welcoming. I've been going to estate sales for 20 years and have never seen such a poorly run sale. There's so much to say -- but the low point of my time at this Fort Worth sale was when one of the burly men working for JLA yelled out across the room that a particular shopper had stolen a bottle of perfume! The woman, smallish, well-dressed and soft-spoken, was horrified. Apparently, the man had seen her walking with the bottle, she had changed her mind and put it down, then when she tried to leave, he humiliated her and barred her from leaving! She dumped out her purse for the woman at the checkout table. It was so awful. She had on just a thin shirt and fitted pants, was clearly well-off, well-spoken. It was so obvious that the woman didn't have the bottle of perfume! At this same sale, I saw another of these thugs accost an old woman who looked to be in her late 80s, who could barely walk. They were trying to take her purse from her, saying they had to do it before she could enter. The woman really protested and became so distraught that she had a coughing fit. I could go on. It was a nightmare. The police arrived at one point. It ruined my day, and I will NEVER go to a JLA sale, much less let these people handle the estate of anyone I care about. Is all this OK in Richardson? I doubt it. read more

They shoved all 6 of my jewelry items into a cheap sandwich sized baggie for shipping from an online auction. Two items arrived broken. They said to file a claim with shipping company, who I know packaged what they provided well. Refused to refund money, only offered a $10 credit for future auction. Why would a buy from them again? I do not need broken stuff. Disappointing excuse for professionalism. read more

Very unprofessional and not organized! The item I placed a bid on and one the bid..... They sold the item out from under me. Then all three people told different stories and lied. Most of the customers complained of how ridiculous the pricing was. Noticed one of the workers taking jewelry for her self. Most people was leaving empty handed.
