There's a surprising amount of quality record stores in the Coachella Valley but Dale's just might be the best, and that's a tribute to the foresight and wisdom of the folks running the place. They don't have a vast selection of endless crates but what's there is thoughtfully and smartly chosen. Every time I've gone in, I've walked out with stuff that mysteriously just happened to be along the lines of what I was looking for. That's a magical quality. Good selection pricing is typical of any record shop, but it was honestly extremely disappointing and disturbing to listen to whoever was working the front counter talk to a customer and entertain a conversation that referred to people who are homosexual as "too much and put it in everyone else's face", claiming they're okay with gay people but "don't like to see it in public". Wasn't a very inviting vibe to have as someone who should be open minded and free spirited. Most likely won't come here again for this reason only. Living in a really sad time where conversations so openly hateful and concerned with others sexualities and identities have become normalized and not shameful enough to keep to yourselves. read more

Found Dale's on the Record Store Day website. Only 2 minutes from my house. Took a chance and went over there, and BOOM they had both the RSD titles I wanted. Can't believe I waited this long to stop in and browse. Had a nice chat about jazz with Sean (or Shawn), who was very helpful, and I made a friend. Cool shop. Cool people. I received a very friendly greeting, but unfortunately that is the only positive thing I can say about this place as a record store. The used vinyl selection is terrible and extremely overpriced. The new vinyl has a slightly better selection, but again, way overpriced. I like supporting local businesses, but not when they have a 20% markup over list price. If you are a serious record collector, probably best to avoid this shop. read more

Total junk shop. The records are kept in crappy crates - not cared for and obviously people (probably customers) aren't careful when handling them because they're all kind of dinged even new ones. It's a visual and aromatic assault in there - I guess it's fun for kids and younger folk but I definitely won't go back. Everything just feels cheap bc it's so junky in there. And they're never open - I tried like four times. Dude was a nice guy but his spot is not for me. Adults be warned. read more

My 14 year old son took me to Dale's Records and Skate Shop yesterday for the first time. My son wanted to buy some records and insisted that we go there. As soon as I walked in, I felt like taking a step back in time. We were greeted by Dale and a local artist who was there. The place is well organized. It will instantly bring you memories from the 80s and 90s. Of course, that will depend on what you listened to back in the day. Dale helped my kid find exactly what he was looking for. In fact, Dale suggested another record that my son happened to have in mind, but he thought Dale wouldn't have it. Well, Dale did have it. I love this place. This place is well worth the visit. Dale is super chill and really knows his stuff. The eclectic new and used collection of LP vinyl is impressive and what I really loved was the vintage clothing section in the back corner. Skate board fans also seemed to love hanging out here. When I started acquiring records a couple years ago, I would go to dales all the time to purchase new records! In fact, I spend hundreds on brand new records for the longest Time it was my main source for vinyl records until I purchased a record that was severely damaged and scuffed and scratched, now this wasn't his fault and this wasn't mine because sometimes or a lot of times brand new records are damaged when I ask him if he could please order me another record I didn't want my money back. I just wanted another copy that I could actually play one that wasn't damaged. He told me straight up, No. He said that I had high expectations when it came to vinyl records when in fact, I don't, I get it brand new vinyl isn't perfect, but if the playback is so bad and the record skips, you would think the owner would help you as a customer so that way you could continue a good relationship with your customer but not Dale. unfortunately he told me I need to take my business elsewhere that if I purchased a record from him and it was damaged, he could not help me, so why do you have a record store in the first place? it's terrible customer service! you would think that he would have ordered me a new one, so that way he could continue to receive my business! We both lost out I was spending hundreds of dollars there and I was getting good music but he will not return a record if it's damaged which is so unfortunate and not right!! again why do you sell records in the first place!? if he was a smart business owner he would've just help me get a new one and his business would be thriving even more ,I haven't been there in almost a couple of years and I don't plan to, I hope he changed that policy, this is for the customers, be aware that you won't be able to return some thing if it's damaged, you're paying a premium price for something that supposed to be a premium product, but not a dales. I recommend purchasing your records from Amazon because if they are damaged, at least Amazon honors the customer and we'll make it right. I also highly recommend Palm Springs vinyl and collectibles!! same price, but they guarantee their records If somethings wrong with that they will help you and they will fix it!! And both Amazon snd Palm Springs vinyl are the same price you're just getting customer service that we customers deserve, dales what a joke of a business, I can't say anything about other products that he sells but definitely not a good place to purchase records, unless you like spending $50 on a record that's damaged then this might be your place but I'm sure most people would agree that's not how you deal with customers specially ones who have helped your business,Hope this helps all the customers.!! read more
