Gaffs Quality Meat And Specialty Foods

I drive through Deland quite often, and right past Gaffs, but have never stopped until just…read morerecently. I don't know if it's the hectic traffic or because I am heading south and the entrance is on the opposite side of the road; regardless, what I can tell you is that I have been missing out because Gaff's is freaking awesome! First of all, the shop is kept in immaculate order and very clean. There is adequate space in between isles allowing ample room for customers to shop. The staff are friendly and are quick to assist when needed; however, if you're here to purchase meats or deli items, be sure to take a number at the door. Gaffs has an extensive selection of butchered meats to choose from such as: - Pork Products: sausage, bratwurst, port tenderloin, pork country ribs, pork roasts, stuffed pork chops, baby back ribs, ground pork, and ground sausage. - Beef Products: Porterhouse, T-bones, New York strip, Tenderloin, Ribeye, Ribs, ground beef, brisket, Roasts, flat iron steak, sirloin, cube steak, flank steak, London broil, chuck eye steak, stew cut beef. - Poultry Products: whole chicken, quartered chicken pieces, multiple pieces wings/thighs by the pound, stuffed chicken breasts, marinated chicken, whole duck, duck breasts, quail, Cornish game hen, and turkey. - Seafood: a variety of salmon, yellowfin tuna, flounder, red drum, red snapper, cod, scallops, a variety of shrimp with and without the shell, clams, oysters, king crab legs, and a decent selection of frozen seafood items. Honestly, the list goes on and on. Gaffs has everything! They have fresh sliced deli meats, fresh vegetables, ready to cook stuffed mushrooms, homemade pot pies and pies, pizzas, soups, dips, hot sauces, BBQ sauces, cheeses, pickles, desserts, cakes, pre-made meals, and so much more. On my most recent visit, I picked up 1lb of hot Italian sausage and 1lb of sweet Italian sausage ($5.49 per lb each) for a low country boil we were throwing together for a party. We grilled the sausage, let it cool, sliced it, and added it to the boil which gave the dish a wonderful flavor and heat everyone enjoyed. It was difficult trying to keep the masses back as the sausage was coming off the grill, LOL. I plan to return to Gaffs soon! I look forward to purchasing some of their steaks, pot pies, and other specialty items for upcoming dinner events. If you have never been to Gaff's before, I highly recommend stopping in to see what they have to offer.

I've been a customer at Gaff's for years, but my recent pre-order experience has unfortunately…read moreended that relationship. I ordered 5 lbs of bone-in short ribs weeks in advance for Thanksgiving--at the staff's own suggestion when I inquired about availability. I provided my pickup date and time as requested, and received two confirmation calls leading up to the holiday. Despite all this preparation, the actual pickup was frustrating and disorganized. When I arrived at my scheduled time on the day before Thanksgiving, the shop was using the standard take-a-number system that completely ignored appointment times. The chaos was predictable--dozens of customers were there for pre-orders--but the system failed at multiple points. Numbers were called too quietly in a loud, crowded shop, and the LED display wasn't consistently updated. Staff gave customers mere seconds to respond before moving to the next number, causing people to be skipped repeatedly. I waited 40 minutes past my scheduled pickup time. When I finally reached the counter, my order wasn't prepared. After weeks of advance notice and multiple confirmations, they had a 3 lb package and a 12 lb package available--neither matching my 5 lb order. I settled for 6 lbs (half of the larger package), which required additional cutting and another 10-minute wait. What's most disappointing is that this was entirely preventable. The day before Thanksgiving is obviously their busiest day of the year, but it's also completely predictable. Pre-orders were advertised in-store for over a month. Simple measures--dedicated staff for pre-orders, a separate pickup area, orders prepared ahead of time--would have prevented this chaos. Instead, the staff seemed dismissive when confronted with their lack of preparation. I understand holiday rushes can overwhelm any business, but this wasn't a rush--it was a failure to plan for a workload they actively solicited and had weeks to prepare for. For a business that asks customers to plan ahead with pre-orders, I expected them to do the same. I won't be returning.

We wanted BBQ last night and we hadn't been to Sonny's in a while with Colts having become our new…read morefav in our rotation of places (Dustin's and Porkies are in there too). We headed to the one in Orange City vs Deland as it's closer even though Deland has been our go to. One waitress (not ours) was great, she was chatty and we laughed about one of the sports on the TVs. Ours was kind enough but she didn't even come to check on us till we were nearly done eating. It was pretty dead but we thought nothin of it. The Cherry Lemonade they have is out of this world and I could drink it by the gallon. My wife got the brisket sandwich with green beans. The meat was all gristle, super salty and didn't even cover the bun. The beans were tasty but very mushy. I got the 2 meat choosing smoked pork which I got sliced and the St Louis ribs. The ribs were near perfect, the meat came right off the bone, every last bit of it but it was a tiny bit on the dry side. The pork was 95% fat there was nearly no meat to be spoken of, I can't even fathom how awful it would've looked had I chosen pulled. My sides were the BBQ beans which were smokey, thick and outstanding. The dirty rice was a question in what the heck were they thinking. Never have I ever in 55 years seen corn kernels in dirty rice and I'm accustomed to there being ground meat not chunks of sausage and I don't know what type of sausage they were using but there was something almost sweet and a lil bit tangy to it which thoroughly threw everything off balance and the rice was thick and chewy. Looking at the reviews here on Yelp, guess we should've stayed with the one in Deland. With all the choices of BBQ around here Sonny's in permanently out of rotation after this.
