Dale Zine is unlike any other store in the Design District. While many of its neighbors specialize in luxury goods, this artist-driven bookstore and publisher offers something uniquely different, with a distinctly retro and independent feel.
Dale (pronounced DAH-leh) is a Miami-based zine publisher and art bookstore. The name comes from the Spanish word dale, which translates roughly to "let's do it!" This independent business is co-owned by art director Steve Saiz and his wife, Lillian Banderas. Before settling in the Design District, they operated several locations in Miami's Little River neighborhood.
Dale Zine began in 2009 as a passion project. While working at an advertising agency, Saiz used the office printer to create small self published booklets, known as zines, focusing on art, photography, and literature. He later launched a Tumblr page with a linked PayPal account, and before long, he was shipping his creations to readers around the world.
Today, the shop offers an eclectic mix of books, shirts, bags, accessories, and beverages. More than just a retail space, however, Dale serves as a platform for artists and creative expression. The back of the store functions as an art gallery, currently featuring the exhibition She Surfs.
I love supporting small businesses, and Dale Zine was one of the most unusual discoveries I made in the Design District. Visit for the independent publishing, contemporary art, or an experience that takes you back to a simpler time. read more
