This could be a great place to stay if they would do some major TLC and better house keeping. It worked for me for a 1 night stay.

At first I was told it's a family run operation and a king size room came with a 50 inch TV. I have a 38 inch I later on after ignoring the simplicity of that called the House phone was declined 4 times and then I was called a retard after that I left came back and I was called retarded and stupid. The bedroom is terrible. His staff is irate. I have stayed over 500 hotels in the past five years. This is the absolutely worst place you can stay. go to the American Inn right next-door. It's 150 a night and it's the best hotel you ever stay at this place. I wanted to support local business because it's Finley run but to be called stupid and retarded after I just wanted to ask why they told me it was a 50 inch CV when it wasn't one and I wanted to figure out how they're gonna add another hundred dollars for the secure deposit after already paid my worth. I've said that many hotels nobody asked for a secure deposit unless it's cash I paid with a credit card so they have my card on file. read more

When I first booked this hotel, it was with a lot of mixed thoughts. Websites such as Expedia, travelocity, and Hotels.com gave this hotel a high rating (8.5) but Yelp did not. Yelp is an honest opinion from customers that money or business cannot influence. After a lot of thought I went ahead and booked a room for the night but did it with apprehension. (After all, you get what you pay for.) Well. . . I think it was the nicest hotel we have stayed in on our trip so far (3 hotels and counting). There is some wear and tear on the building. Most of that was evidenced in the hallways with the carpets looking kind of faded/dingy. Walls needed a new coat of paint, or repair due to slight bulging in areas, etc. The room we stayed in was very nice. The beds were comfortable and clean. There were several large bath towels in the bathroom and it was decorated with dark browns and greens. It looked like it had been updated not too long ago. The water in the shower was nice and hot. We did not use the pool area but it looked like fun. There were play structures in the wading pool section and a 2 story slide sticking out of the building. It isn't far off the freeway, and it is close to the airport. Now for the bad: When we checked in, the counter person was friendly, but she REALLY NEEDED HELP! There was a constant stream of people wanting to check in and the phone was ringing off the hook. We got our room key and when we walked in, we realized someone else was already checked in. There was luggage on the table and chairs. We went back downstairs and the poor girl had to figure out what had happened. (While answering phones and checking in a long line of people). She gave us another room and ran up herself to make sure it was ok. We dropped off our luggage and as we were leaving for dinner, someone who checked in after us was sitting on the luggage cart out in the hall. She said they were given the keys but the room still had unmade beds and wet towels on the floor. We checked in at 7 PM. There was no excuse for this. I used to work in the hotel business and know that we would leave the room which needed to be serviced, open. As we walked down the hall, there were several rooms that were open and garbage bags were left in the hallways. This all was the worst of the stay. There were other cosmetic type of thing such as rust on the towel rack next to the shower. And we couldn't get the TV to work. The breakfast menu was average with biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, waffles, muffins, cereal, and juices or milk to drink. I loved the way the breakfast room was decorated! read more

When i booked the room the front desk lady was nice and helpful. When the night shift came on she called me and was very rude and already entered my room and was upset cause there was two dogs which we stated whenbooking into hotel. And i showed the paperwork for on that he is service dog and paid the fee. We never signed a paper when filling booking in. But she had no reason to be rude about their mistake of not charging. I was booked into room 153 and at 10pm at night the front desk lady saw me walking to smoke outside she walked right past me. At this time she decided to knock on my door and walk in saying room check to my four minor children. And she removed them all from the room saying we were kicked out for the smell of weed. Which there was no smell of weed and the kids were all sleeping. How do u remove children from a room knowing they did nothing wrong and there was no weed in room what so ever. This was a joke removing minor children when I went outside to smoke and have police remove us with complete lies. This was wrong especially entering my room twice and treating us with disrespectfulness. Stayed here as it was affordable and close to the Denny Sanford Premier Center. The room had not been cleaned. LOTS of hair covered several areas of the bathtub as well as used shampoo bottles. Large food crumbs on the bedding and floor. Breakfast buffet at 8:00 in the morning was very disappointing. No cups for coffee. No juice. The only food available was biscuits and gravy. Nothing was kept stocked or clean for the full hours that breakfast is served for. read more

So where to start. It's looks nice and there is a water slide that doesn't work. I'll start with the most positive thing. The staff was very friendly. A very nice common area when you walk in the doors. Breakfast was on par with most other hotels I've stayed in. Now the bad. -This place looks like it is put together with super glue and duck tap. All appliances and rooms look to be furnished with used hotel surplus inventory. My room had a mirror that fell off the wall onto my toddler(no injury.) -We found napkins and garbage bags in the bed and a room card under the bed. This implies no one cleaned our room up to code. I know most hotels have a checklist they follow to clean rooms. -One of the few outlets in the room didn't work along with the lamp that was plugged into it. -The door closest to our room did not work with our key cards. -While we had our kids swimming they were checking chemical levels. They stated they recently had a school of kids stay and vandalize the pool area. That's fine but I don't want to see someone checking chemicals while my kids are in the pool. -I asked for a roll away bed. She said it would be a few mins and I stated "that is fine my kids are not going to bed immediately." 45 mins later the wife calls up and asks. The front desk states they were waiting for my call to bring the bed down. Give me a break. Every-time I brought these issues up I was told they would look into it. After all that no discount was given. The rooms are not kid friendly and I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

There was a stench of marijuana in the hallway (that might not be the lodges issue but still note worthy) Aside from that the people are great. When you ask for a wake up call a person actually calls you and the first night I was there I slept through the wake up call and the staff came to my door to wake me. We went to breakfast at 8:15 and the only hot food available was some burnt scrambled eggs that a boy was trying to scrape out of the pan, coffee, and toast. I spoke with the front desk and was told that the cook had called in this morning... whatever that means. No baked goods or waffle mix either. Howdy, This is a decent place to stay for a couple of days. The courtyard is a nice place to enjoy a meal or hang out for a little while.. However the hot tub was out of order and the pool was uncomfortably cold. The slide was fun. If the hot tub had been working it would have helped us deal a cold pool and we would have a lot more fun. The lights in the pool room don't turn on automatically one night I had to go to the desk and ask them to turn on the lights. There were several maintenance issues a the "water park items in the pool. Also the door into the pool room spent a great deal of time propped open which caused the door to fail at its job of keeping kids safe. My G'son ran ahead and was in the pool in the dark when I caught up a him. The door that goes out to the parking lot by the slide did not lock. I told management and was told the locks only works at night. I walked in w/o using my card numerous times well after dark. I didnt check the other doors One issue I had was that my room was cleaned after the first night. My room was left open (the night latch bar was positioned so that it held door open.). The other 3 nights I stayed there my room was untouched. No fresh towels, no trash removed, beds not made, etc. I told the people at the front desk nothing happened. I told what I believed to be the owner of at least the owners agent nothing happened. Part of what a hotel charges is for housekeeping. It has been a couple of weeks I thought perhaps I might receive an acknowledgement of perhaps an apology. There was an small electronic item that was not password protected the I reported missing after my room was left unlocked and never even acknowledged that. Never came so I am posting the story. Some of the staff was nice and tried but management dropped the ball. Breakfast was ok, if you are really into carbs. Anyway it felt as though they didn't care about keeping their guests safe. I was worried after reading the reviews but I'm glad we stopped here for the night. Our room was in pretty good shape. A few things that could have been better but nothing that made me want to pack up and leave. The laundry room/ vending / game area was a little disappointing . No change machine you had to ask for change at the front desk but when I asked she didn't have any. She was very apologetic and sincere so it was ok. The pool area was a hit with the kids. The water was a little cool but not bad once you get in. They didn't have any clean pool towels but we were also the very last ones in the pool area so it was to be expected. The Brimark Inn is an excellent inexpensive hotel. We drove into town not expecting much for the fifty bucks we were paying. Wow. Clean, big, pool and hot tub, full king-sized room. We were in Sioux Falls for the pool tournament that was taking place at the Ramkota. Loved that it was right down the street and the prices weren't bad! The room was very clean and it looked like it had recently been updated. The bathroom was a little small and I didn't like that there wasn't a vanity at all. The sink was a pedestal type sink, so there wasn't any place to set anything. I had to use the actual sink to set things like my hairspray while I was getting ready. I think that was my only complaint! The shower had awesome water pressure! I loved that there was a fridge and a microwave in the room. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, as well. We didn't check out the pool area, but if there is a next time I really want to go down the water slide! The free breakfast was okay. Selection was limited. There were strawberry and plain waffle mix, biscuits and gravy, cereal, donuts and yogurt. I had a strawberry waffle and it was delicious. We booked this on the internet so we didn't know what to expect. It was a very nice surprise. They are right in the middle of renovating and enlarging everything. The room was spacious, clean and well appointed. They could include one more chair as there was only one. You have to ask for a first floor room and up front if possible as there is no elevator and the construction has the hallways closed to the lobby on one side. They have a neat little courtyard with seats for you to sit and eat if you choose and a grill for Bar-B-Q. The breakfast was very good and the staff was very friendly. If you can put up with a little inconvenience for a very good low price this is the place to stay in Sioux Falls. read more

Great for kids and great price. For $100 I got a great swimming pool for the older kids, a great kiddie pool for the 3 year-old, free breakfast, free internet, free parking and friendly staff. I will definitely stay here again and highly recommend to anyone. The courtyard would be great for grilling and chilling, but that was not in our plan for this trip. They allow people to smoke in the courtyard. While great for smokers, it's not great if you have your window open in your room. read more

The room was very reasonable. Even though there is a recent remodel, the rooms are a bit dated and the outside of the building is quite dated. It is next to a motorhome dealership on one side and the gas station on the other. Very easy to get to, just off of Russell Street. Pretty decent variety of foods in the kitchen; for scrambled eggs, bagels, cereal, toast, waffles, yogurt, rolls, coffee. You can hear people in the hall running up and down, and as it is only a few miles from the airport, you do hear planes taking off & landing. read more

We were traveling through Sioux Falls with 450 miles under our tires when storms hit. So we quick pulled out the phone to find a spot to hunker down for the night. Dakotah lodge came up and was a reasonable price with a pool spot for the kids. Booked it and rolled in about an hour later. Check in was a breeze and the staff was welcoming and very nice. The hotel smelled nice, which is a big deal for me. We checked out the pool. It was a little dirty, and smelled very strongly of chlorine, but the kids had a blast. The courtyard is AMAZING complete with tables, chairs, a bbq grill, gas fireplace, and water features. Also, beautiful landscaping. The beds were comfortable, as were the pillows. Nice water pressure in the shower. The pool is open til 11pm which gave plenty of swim time. Breakfast was run of the mill continental but offered some other options like nice fruit and good coffee, cereal, eggs, biscuits and gravy, oatmeal, and waffles. I did hear some slapping doors through the night and early morning, but I expect that in a hotel. Overall I'm super pleased, and we will be staying here again. read more

My family and I were considering staying for a few weeks and was excited to stay here particularly due to them having a water area for kids. I couldn't book online and the website said to call for availability. So I called to see what was available. I was caught off guard when the person I was speaking to was acting like he couldn't be bothered by answering questions. Still, I set aside that fact and continued to ask about availability. He refused to even speak with me about it. He only stated that I needed to fill out an application and speak with the general manager. I have never had to fill out an application in order to stay at a hotel before. We were planning on pre-paying for our entire stay ahead of time. Still he was rude and refused to give me anymore information other than you will have to speak with a manager. Can't believe this actually how this place operates. Such a shame a bad employee ruined that experience for me. Would NOT recommend staying here as the booking experience is a nightmare. Good-luck getting a room. read more

Spent a quick night at the Dakotah Lodge during a cross country road trip. It was better than expected and wish we would've stayed another night. The room was clean and big. The staff were super friendly and helpful. It was close to the main highway but not loud. The pool was full of kids/teens running amuck so not necessarily relaxing but we were surprised by a movie projected out in the courtyard. Definitely recommend this place! read more

This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Missing light bulbs in our room, the plug socket was literally hanging out of the wall, the vent fell off the wall and the desk chair had a missing wheel. On top of all that, the breakfast was horrible. The only thing that was decent was the cereal and waffles. No fruit. And only other option was toast and The juice machine was broken. My son tripped over The wood piece that connects the carpet together and nails were sticking out. We put it back and another child tripped over it again with nails sticking straight up in the air. Someone finally brought it to the front desk. They over booked rooms every night we stayed there. We books 4 rooms and when the rest of our party came to check in that night, they had no rooms left, even after double checking when we checked in. We had an extra room booked for Saturday night, and we were even given the keys to the room that weren't available yet as they weren't cleaned. We went to the room that afternoon, and other people had their luggage already in it. They left and went to the brand new americinn hotel right next door. The water park was the only thing decent, but they never had any pool towels available and the hot tub smelled! On top of all of this, the fire alarm went off 2 times saturday night!! They said when their phone lines go out, the fire alarm sounds. . What!? I will never stay here again nor will I recommend it to anyone. read more

We were excited to stay here because the pool looked like a fun place to be after a day in the car. Wrong!!!!! As I looked back at the reviews I realized that any positive ones are from years ago. It is pretty run down. It smells funky and our bathroom ceiling looks like it may collapse from water damage and MOLD!!!! The pool was so bad!!!! No ventilation and my kids started coughing and their eyes burned. I would leave if it didn't mean packing up three kids at way past their bedtime. Our son has been wanting to stay at Dakota Lodge since they opened. We had the chance to finally and wished we didn't. Our room was not clean. There was garbage under our beds. The cable was not working. The front desk gal did not know how to fix it. We had to wait till the next day for maintenance at 12 to fix it. We could not get signed into the internet so we could hook up the Xbox so kiddos could have something to watch. It was a long long night. We were told breakfast would be ready at 6:30. At 7:40 it was just getting set up. The eggs looked like they were day old. Two of the cereal containers were empty. No cups for juice. The pool area was good. The kiddos had fun there. When we went back to our room for supper three loud parties were going on across the hall. At 8:00 that night i gave up and went home. Very dissatisfied. We will never stay again. read more
