Super fast and friendly services! Prices are very reasonable Not many places have crunch cones so I love Dairy Zone for that reason!

Unexpected stop and it did not disappoint! Decided to stop by this cute little ice cream place. Sadly there kitchen was closed around 8:30. Not sure what the kitchen hours are but they offer sandwiches and fries, burgers and many other things. I got a small cone and my husband got the brownie sundae which was okay, it had a cosmic brownie so too sweet for my taste. We spent around 6 dollars on two things. They offer shakes as well. They also have a walk up option to order or you can do a drive thru. Cute place

    Cheese cubes and butterfinger tornado

What a great local staple to Des Moines! I've wanted to try this place for years but never had until this week. I was pleasantly surprised by the prices and the serving sizes. I ordered a butterfinger tornado and cheese cubes. Both were excellent and hit the spot. My friend ordered a krunch kone tornado and the shrimp basket. She really enjoyed her food as well. We went around 1230 and the drive up line was long. We chose to walk up and had quick friendly service. Can't wait to go back!

Went for ice cream. Came home with ice cream. I'd call that quite the success! It's COVID-19; we are in a world pandemic, but we are hankering ice cream. I hop onto trusty Yelp and through a combination of social media searches, find Dairy Zone's drive-through is ready and open for business. We make our way over to the East side of DSM, hop in line, and await our delicious ice cream. It did not disappoint! I enjoyed that my tornado was mixed well (no chunks of just plain ice cream) but still had good-sized chunks of candy in it (without them being pulverized into tiny bits you can't taste.) World pandemic or not, we will be back! Bonus: They serve food! I'll be back to try out that tenderloin. Rest assured.

My first time here! One of their posts was shared on FaceBook and I just had to go see what the big deal was about. Opening day for the season could not have had better weather! It was a nice 52°. 1:45. This place was jammed packed! There's a choice between either the walk-up window and dining on the patio table picnic area or drive-thru. I opted for drive-thru. It's tricky. The lot was full and the line was into the street. I was not surprised. It moved quickly though and everyone seemed to have ample patience. My son ordered a butterfinger tornado and I had the banana split tornado. He said it was the best he's ever had. He's 12, so. My tornado was perfection in a cup! Yep, ate it with my spoon while driving. There's a lot of stop lights down University. It had chunks of strawberries and bananas all through it. Every time I had a strawberry on my spoon it was like an extra treat. Excellent all the way around. I bet this place is constantly busy all summer. As they should be.

This place is great on a hot summer day to cool down with a sweet cool treat! I've heard their appetizers are great too. I always go with a tornado either misled with rices peanut butter cups or ores! Either way you'll never go wrong with amazing ice cream!

Located in La Placita (mostly Latino) business corridor, all your cravings for Mexican food will be satisfied here. I have been coming to this place since around 2012 and have never been disappointed. My most recent visit was this weekend (June 2020) when my friends and I stopped for ice cream and aguas frescas (refreshing fruit drinks/infusions). The pistachio ice cream is honestly one of the best desserts I have ever had: creamy and flavorful ice cream, with TONS of real pistachio pieces. It's a pistachio lover's dream. Other delicious offerings are their carne asada fries (which are as good as they sound - freshly made french fries topped with carne asada and all of the toppings), their taquitos and flautas (crispy and flavorful!), and their champurrado in the fall and winter months (hot beverage with a thick consistency because it's partly made with masa/corn meal flour - chocolate, walnut or guava flavors, keeps you super warm in the Iowa winter!). And of course, lots of ice creams and ice cream pops: a lovely variety of flavors, excellent quality. Here you can also buy pinatas and other packaged Mexican snacks. They have a decent-sized dining area here for patrons to sit and eat. They also have burritos, elote, frescas, torta, epandas, popsicles, hand-scooped ice cream, maganadas, smoothies, banana splits, and fries. The staff was friendly enough, but my interaction with them was very brief. I ordered the strawberries and cream. It was ready in less than 5 minutes. The strawberries were so fresh. It was really good. I wish the cream were a bit thicker, though. It was very runny. Anyway, this is a nice spot to get some Mexican food and a sweet treat to go along with it. I would recommend checking this place out, and I look forward to coming back and trying some more of their traditional Mexican frozen treats.
