Hands down best soft serve I have ever had. I never would have thought I'd find it in a small town in Iowa. I would compare this creamy soft serve to Dairy Queen, except even better! They also have the best cookie ice cream sandwich I've ever had. Thelma's cookie sandwiches blew my mind. There was inside and patio seating available. The inside is very cute and quaint and there are sooooo many options to choose from. The drive through was also very convenient for small orders. This place is ran by high schoolers, so have patience. They did mess my order up a couple times, but the ice cream is so worth it. I wish I was from the area because I would literally come here every day if I could. read more

You are missing out if you don't visit Waukee Ice Cream Shop!!! First of all, I'm a soft-serve lover so the fact that they had such a HUGE soft serve selection was my favorite part. Not only was the selection phenomenal, but the quality was top notch and dare I say the best ice cream I've experienced throughout the entire nation. The cookie dough sundae was another fave, as they LOAD the sundae with real cookie dough...just a dream! I didn't even get to the ice cream sandwiches...the best ones you will ever taste in your life. Do watch out that your order comes out correctly, as the teenagers working there have gotten my order wrong a few times but they are quick and friendly to correct themselves when you let them know. There was a little snafu with one of my orders so I called to bring it to the owner's attention and she handled it in SUCH a positive and professional manner, which I highly respect. Great little neighborhood ice cream shop. They have taken the necessary steps to ensure a safe re-opening during COVID, you can dine in or carry out. The ice cream is really delicious, they have about 2 dozen hard ice cream flavors and a few soft serve. The staff is really friendly and the prices are super reasonable. read more

I've been on the hunt for a great ice cream shop in Des Moines and THIS IS IT. This place has the best ice cream with the best prices. There were options ranging from different soft serve flavors, blizzard type options, hard scoop ice cream, sundaes, etc!!! The service was very rude. My kids and I visited this place for ice cream tonight, trying somewhere new. My kids ordered a flavored ice cream, but it tasted like pure vanilla. I asked about the missing flavor, and a young girl said it was mixed in. She then whispered to the girl next to her, and another girl joined in as they made new cones for my kids. The cashier told me to move so she could ring up other customers and said someone would bring out the ice cream. I mentioned that I didn't appreciate the whispering and talking about us in front of me, I am very disappointed with the service and the remarks from the young girls. Unpleasantly surprised by this being a "cash only" establishment, but I'm sure with more research we could have found this out before hand so that's our own fault. There's an ATM behind the building and the ice cream did not disappoint. A very nice little establishment with a lot of fun options for ice creams. We went to the ice cream shop tonight for a little treat. The line was long but that was ok, it was the perfect night for ice cream. We both ordered a blitz, think blizzard, and they were made with soft serve ice cream. I ordered the Rice Krispies treat, which was vanilla with Rice Krispies. It was suppose to have marshmallow but I didn't taste it at all. My boyfriend ordered the monster cookie blitz and it was extremely peanut buttery, which was good but did not taste like a monster cookie. It tasted like a peanut butter cookie blitz. Overall, we were not overly impressed. All of their ice creams are store bought and everything else is simply assembled. We thought that the blitz would be a bit more firm but it was extremely soft. Pay cash or you will get charged an extra 4% when using your card. read more

This would have been a five star review, but inconsistencies in service led me to reconsider. I initially came a couple weeks ago and was thrilled to see the great price on cookie dough with vanilla soft serve. After bragging about it to my friends, we ventured back last week. We came in about 15 minutes before close (the worst type of people, I know) and it was relatively busy so we quickly ordered what I had gotten the first time - we were charged about a dollar more, and received significantly less cookie dough, which was the whole reason to get what we did. I know that sometimes staff understand things differently, so I'm more than willing to go back and give it another go around, but it was a bit disappointing for that to happen after I had sung it's praises so highly. I may need to try something else, as vanilla soft serve with hardly any cookie dough simply isn't worth the money. Better luck next time. read more

Small, cute, local ice cream shop. If you're looking to get away from chains, this is a great option. The staff is friendly and they have a good variety of options. Sad and disappointed...I didn't get helped after standing in line for 10 minutes the girl literally helped the two people in front of my boyfriend and I then helped my boyfriend and after he got his ice cream she blatantly ignored me and moved onto the couple behind us I stood there a couple more minutes waiting and then nothing so I left empty handed. read more

I'm sad to say that the Ice Cream shoppe has dropped some of it's luster over the past few years. The best thing the shop had going for it was the great pricing. Over the past 15 years, anyone could buy a small soft serve ice cream cone for $1.00. This last season the price was raised to $1.30. Not a huge deal, but it makes a difference. And as of today, I was told they no longer are using the punch cards that would allow anyone after purchasing 10 ice cream cones a free cone. I feel like the shoppe has lost its touch with the small downtown feel it used to have. read more

So. So good the girls behind the counter are really sweet and helpful. My husband asked for a pie shake. You read that right. There's a place in Utah that does it so we asked if they would- just dump one of those slices right in the blender with some vanilla soft serve. They were surprised but willing and it was amazing! Their prices are outstanding- $1 for a small (big!) scoop of soft serve on a cone, and they have tons of flavors. Our family of 4 (plus a baby who tries everything) can get what we want for under $10. Perfect place in my book. read more

For dinner, my wife ordered Traditional Wings (see picture) while I opted for the Oh No! burger (see picture).
