Rye toast on the side for the skillet and veggie omelette. Sunny side eggs on the skillet were done perfectly - hash browns soaked up the yolk as expected. French toast was tender. The food was excellent, and the famous square pancakes absolutely lived up to the hype. After I returned home to California, I realized I had accidentally left my clip-on sunglasses at the diner. I expected they were gone forever. Instead, the staff found them, carefully packaged them, and mailed them back to me at their own effort. That level of customer service is incredibly rare today and says everything about the kind of people who run this restaurant. The meal was delicious, the atmosphere felt welcoming, and the hospitality extended well beyond my visit. If you're passing through Oelwein, make this a stop. From the moment we walked through the door, the staff was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and helpful in explaining how the ordering process worked. The atmosphere was fantastic, especially sitting out on "the porch"! The menu offered so many tempting choices, and did I mention they have ICE CREAM?! Between our group, we enjoyed appetizers, sandwiches, pizza, and, of course, ice cream. Every single thing was delicious! What really stood out, though, was the exceptional customer service. Even a little glitch with the mustard dispenser was addressed and resolved within about 30 seconds. It's those little things that speak volumes about how a business is run! Great food, wonderful atmosphere, and genuinely friendly people who clearly care about their customers. The Porch was an absolute gem and a highlight of our travels!
