Happened to drive through Waterloo and saw the billboard for this joint. Burgers looked good so we stopped in. Not a huge menu but a good menu. I am going to say this is my favorite smash burger in Iowa. The bun to meat ratio is perfect and the crispy edges in the beef added the perfect texture and flavor. I don't know what fry seasoning is used but it was bomb. Fries were crisp and golden on the outside and super smooth in the inside. Sad we live an hour away or I'd be here all the time. Smash burgers great but fries way over seasoned, made all our burgers wrong (one had to be remade), no napkins in the place unless ask and get a couple tiny ones, and feels dirty and unkempt. Friends of ours liked this and recommended it. They haven't replaced the Mexican restaurant sign so you've got to know what you're looking for. The bacon cheeseburger was like $7 and fries were $2.50. So a little more expensive than fast food. The burger was a nice thin smash burger with decent exterior crispiness and was decent, but nothing special. It had meaty flavor, but could have used a little more seasoning. My husband and I always stop here for the best burgers when we are driving through Waterloo. I had the Western Double with cheese, onion rings, and BBQ sauce. My husband had a double with all the fixin's and a great sauce. The burgers are always juicy and delicious. We love the potato buns and the fries are really thick and crispy. The cashier is so sweet and always friendly and helpful. The kitchen service is fast. There was a line in front of us and we were ready to wait but it really didn't take that long to get service. I came here and ordered a pickup in person on a Friday. Pros: The milkshakes are delicious! The pound cake milkshake literally has pound cake in it (not just flavoring) and you can taste and feel the breading and texture as you drink it. Cons: The Classic burger was burnt on the edges, and the lettuce they used was not fresh. The Bacon Cheese burger was burnt on the edges and the bacon was nonexistent. The Big Head Fries did not have enough fries; there were way too many vegetables and not enough fries. The Pound Cake milkshake was not filled to the top, which was very disappointing since it was so good as I previously mentioned. Overall: I would not look at Big Head Burger as a place that I have to visit again. The total was $29 but I really feel like it should have been $20 at best. When I looked at the menu they had at the restaurant, I thought "wow the food looks fantastic!" but when I actually got the food, it was like "wait...this doesn't look like that." The quality and quantity just didn't add up in my opinion, and for that, I would have say that I don't recommend coming here. read more

We visited this establishment yesterday. Walk in and immediately greeted with a "Hello" from the back! We ordered at the kiosk and before we could get to the counter the owner had our drink cups ready for us! We got our food to go and as we waited for our burgers and onion rings, we sat in the seating area. Then this beautiful lady came out and struck up an conversation with us. We found out that she was the owners mother and we had a lovely conversation!! THEN we left and dig into our burgers and onion rings. I must say they were the BEST burgers I've had in probably 20 years! The onion rings were perfection. I didn't eat all my burger so I wrapped it up in the bag and it was left in our car for the afternoon. When I got it back out of the cooler it was just as good as it was fresh off the grill! 10/10 would recommend... my husband also got a Peach Cobbler shake which when I saw the price I was like woah..but it was beyond worth the price tag!
