Wow. What a fine establishment. After a week in the wilderness, fine fried food and dairy was exactly what my heart desired. My Oreo shake and chicken finger basket were amazing. The basket was filled with perfectly greasy chicken and fries that mated well with creamy, thick gravy to dip in. My Oreo Shake was the perfect consistency. It was milky enough to drink through a straw easily, but not too thin to where the Oreo would fall to the bottom. Also, the Oreo was perfectly blended into pieces just small enough to fit through the straw. This Dairy Queen truly made my experience in Minnesota wonderful. read more

DQ and Subway are all Ely has to offer in terms of fast food. Their food is great, though. I love the chicken strip meal with the Texas toast. The ice cream is fantastic - who doesn't love DQ on a hot day? The drive-thru is kind of a head scratcher. It's best if you pass the restaurant and turn down 15th Avenue and then make a left into the alley. Order where you see the menu and then drive around the front of the building - watch for customers and people on the sidewalk! - to pay and get your order. I have to chuckle at some of these other reviews. "The ice cream is always cold"?? Is there another way to serve it? :) The staff is young but very friendly and efficient. One of the better Dairy Queens that I have been to. Came and went thru the drive through which was quite the experience. You need to understand how this works. First you go to one side of the building and order your food & drinks. Then you go around back of the building to the other side and get your order. The blizzards came out with that dorky upside down move that you have to juggle back upright, but they were well mixed which is the one only good DQ's deliver on. This delivered. read more

The food arrived very quickly after ordering, which was a welcome change from the rest of the restaurants in town. It was standard Dairy Queen fare; little different from any other Grill & Chill location. The Flamethrower burger was good, but the fries were a bit underdone. We arrived in ely last night (January 25th) just in time to swing into dq quick for a blizzard. The hours said open until 9 but they were already locked up, lights off at 8:45pm. Extremely disappointing considering I've worked in hospitality for a long time and it is a huge no no to close even 15 minutes early. Especially on a Saturday night. read more

Customer service has been horrible lately! We went though DT for ice cream treat last night. Almost didn't get everything we asked for had to ask the person for the rest of the treats. So, staying at a motel up the street and check your hours which are listed as open until 930 tonight. At 900 I walk over to the Ely DQ. People are inside cleaning up but the doors are locked. So, says me, screw it and walk up to the Holiday, grab some ice cream, walk back to the hotel. Not even 930 yet and I spent over 10 minutes inside Holiday. The bottom line is, this was my first experience with Ely Dairy Queen. And that one is the one you remember most. If you're going to post those hours, honor them. Disappointed. read more
