Do not go to this place. It has changed management, and the quality of food has shown it. Literally tastes like there's no crust underneath your pizza. What the hell happened? I went there yesterday and I noticed there were some people up there running around like they own the place, a couple of Indian guys. It doesn't take a rocket science to figure out. Some white people own this, a white family, and now an Indian family was walking around. So did you guys switch ownership? I asked that the Indian dude, and he was like, "No, no, Steve is still here, he's still here." That means you're a liar because now I've looked up the records, and you did switch hands. After loving this place for over 30 years, we will never go back. While waiting for our to go pizza, we were told we could not sit down - even though the place was not busy. The pizza was tasteless and way overpriced when a frozen pizza we had to get tasted better for $4. The new owners have run the regulars off, and the quality of the food and service is now terrible. This place needs a full overhaul from the service to the food quality to a complete redo of the restaurant, which is sadly deteriorating, and has been for a very long time. ...the eggplant parms were meh . Little to no eggplant was inside the dish. It was a bowl full to the brim with sauce/cheese with a few pieces of eggplant. After eating out all the eggplant, I can see that about 75% of the dish is sauce and cheese. Looks like new owners. Service was still good though. read more

For what it was, I thought their small stuffed pizza was great! The value was there, it was tasty, and it gave me 3 meals for $13. I ordered pickup and talked with an idle waitress for a while. She said the dough is made fresh each morning (which tasted right). They add olive oil and some seasoning to the top of the "stuffed pie" which added a nice touch. I can't wait to order another small stuffed pie. For critiques, I thought the online ordering process/website was odd. The online ordering process told me to provide contact information and said I "might be contacted to confirm my order". I was also asked/prompted to tip 4 times between the clunky online ordering process and in person when I picked up my takeout pizza. Not a big deal, I love good food. read more

Dagwood's has gone completely downhill. The staff is loud, inconsiderate, and flat-out disrespectful to customers. It feels like nobody cares about service anymore. Every order comes out different -- sometimes missing items, sometimes made wrong, and sometimes just thrown together like they don't even try. The pizza quality has crashed hard. What used to taste fresh and homemade now tastes cheap, bland, and honestly pretty bad. The sandwiches and everything else have the same issue -- it feels like the quality has gone to absolute garbage. On top of that, the wait times are ridiculous. The place is clearly understaffed and nothing ever seems to improve. You'll stand there forever just to get food that isn't even worth it. It's sad because Dagwood's used to be good. It used to feel welcoming, family-friendly, and like a real American-made spot that took pride in its food. Now it's the complete opposite. FORGET DAGWOODS @ SPALDING! Been going there for 10+ years, recent change in management/investors FOR THE WORSE. USE to be a place with good food no matter what you ordered, a long term friendly staff, attentive and accommodating and focused on serving their clientele. Never a rush to get you out the dang door minutes before or after closing. Totally different now! Saturday night I arrived Cafe 9000:00PM, the place was all but empty, NEVER seen that before. Service was prompt but server never returned to check on me, not once. He was engaged in a loud conversation (non-English) with a peer the entire time. I had to signal for service several times to get someone to reluctantly return for another beverage. Then in the middle of my meal, still open, at 9:30 the help started vacuuming the floor! I mean right up to my table. Totally annoying; so much for a nicely paced evening out for a meal. Old closing hour before the change in management was 11PM, new hours not on the front door or the Google profile either, I checked. New closing time as I found out is now 10PM...so 30 minutes before closing they are vacuuming the floors, right up to my table. At 9:50PM I get a verbal "we are closing in 10 minutes" warning and I am not quite 1/2 way through my meal though I am feeling totally rushed because of the vacuuming. I ate quickly, had to gulp down my beverage and promptly was greeted w/the check, before I even finished my drink. Server stood their waiting for me to produce my credit card. It was clear he wanted me to pay and leave. Brought the check right back, it's now 9:59. At 10:04 PM less than 1 minute after finishing my beverage the 'manager' cranks up the vacuum and starts to vacuum right at my feet, I mean laterally at my feet. It was clear they wanted me to leave. So I stood up and told the manager clearly and calmly to his face as he is literally vacuuming around my feet: "I get the message". Gone are the servers that have been there for years and years, gone is the easy going atmosphere, gone is the Southern hospitality and client focused spirit of Dagwoods. This was my "Cheers". The new Indian/Pakistan crew is in the house now and they don't have a clue. Just ate for the first time here. Not sure if it's this way because of new ownership like the other recent reviews mentioned, or if it's always been this way. It was pretty terrible. Obviously frozen mozzarella sticks. Custom topping pizza wasn't cooked enough / or a low temp oven. No caramelization at all on the mozzarella, and the onions were still extremely raw in chunks and not in a way that you'd put on pizza. Bruschetta pizza was almost inedible. Giant chunks of watery canned tomatoes, tons of herb flakes from a jar, too much oil, and drenched in garlic liquid made this pizza a weird greasy garlic tomato soup. Everything somehow had zero flavor, and felt like someone was making pizza for the first ever time. My mouth is now coated in garlic oil and not in a good way. This is a place where the rest of your day is ruined when you look at the bill. read more

I honestly don't know what happened to this place, but it has gone downhill fast. Every visit feels worse than the last. The biggest issue for me was the overall cleanliness. From what I personally saw, the back area looked messy and poorly maintained, and it didn't give me any confidence that food was being handled properly. I also noticed bugs inside the restaurant during my visit, which is completely unacceptable for any food establishment. The kitchen and prep areas didn't look organized or sanitary, and the way some ingredients--especially the chicken and other poultry--were handled made me really uncomfortable. It didn't look like there were proper cleaning routines or safe food practices being followed. Staff also didn't seem trained in basic food-safety procedures, at least from what I observed. Between the cleanliness issues, the sloppy food handling, and the general lack of professionalism, this place feels nothing like it used to. Fantastic! Great local pizza place with plenty of parking and seating. Inside was cozy and welcoming. I did my order to go but the inside was very nice if you wanted to eat in. Quick to get service and my pizza was ready in 15 minutes. I got the small Carnivore for $15 and was unable to finish it. Plenty of ingredients and cheese. Cheese was to the crust as well. Whenever I am heading home from the gym, I always seen this place packed. So one day, On the way home I was craving some pizza and decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did! I wanted to experiment a bit and not get a regular pepperoni or cheese pizza, so I ended up trying their "White Pizza"; a cheese pie topped with fresh garlic, onions, and 3 different kind of cheeses (ricotta, feta, and mozzarella). To give it a little bit of extra taste, I added pineapples and spinach to it as well (and yes I'm one of those people that enjoy pineapples on pizza. Don't knock it til you try it!) Anyway, believe me when I tell you that I hadn't had a slice of pizza this good since I used to stay off Jamaica Ave in NYC! The slices were fresh and hot and all of the toppings were really tasty. If you're looking for a pizza stop to try, I would definitely recommend Dagwood. But, before you go, here's a few tips that could help you out: 1). Like I said the place is usually packed, if you can try to call your order in ahead of time so you don't have to wait that long. Even if it's not busy you may have to wait atleast 15/20 mins depending on what your getting. 2). I know the rule of "sticking to what you know" when you try a new restaurant. But with Dagwood, I would say dont be scared to experiment. I'm certain that most of their choices are a hit 3). And lastly, if you do decide to try the White Pizza (which I recommend) I would suggest having some gum on standby when you do. The garlic definitely packs a punch! :) enjoy! read more

Good friends got a group of us hooked on Dagwood's years ago, and -- MAN -- Dagwood's has consistently lived up to the hype! The pizzas, with the quality and quantity of each topping, the calzones, the salads and -- MY GOODNESS -- the cannoli!! We're all raving & smacking, each time we order from here. We love the laid-back feel, the food, and the awesome employees when we dine in, but even when we carry-out, we are equally impressed with the food AND the employees! This past weekend was one big dash from one group of friends to the next, and Saturday's lunch for six needed to be decided in advance. I was floundering between all the options, when Allie - my HERO - guided me through customizing two pizzas to satisfy all the topping preferences among the six of us!! We always get like 7 pizzas for the office including 1 Big daddy extra large pizza with slices too large to hold and several smaller pizzas. I recommend every last one of them... BUT, TODAY...
