Ah, the fun of flying by the seat of your pants. A Groupon brought three friends and I to Dagaz Acres, which was just an hour's drive from Cincinnati. Located in rural Indiana, allow yourself some extra time to arrive for your appointment as you can easily get lost on those winding country roads. My friends and I were part of a 14-member group of guests which was led by two guides: Kate and Patrick, the owner. We started by putting on gear which was double checked, first by Kate, then by Patrick. Next, we went to the practice zip line where we got a crash course on how to fly. The practice zip line is only five feet off the ground and teaches everyone the mechanics and safety of your equipment. Each participant takes a turn before heading off for the real deal. The zip line course consists of seven dual zip lines that you can ride alongside a friend, three canopy zip lines, a high-wire Burma bridge, and a wooden plank pirate bridge. Throughout the course you get to launch off and land on various platforms, staircases, planks, and tree top forts. The fastest zip line is called The Big Nasty, which is 500 feet long and 70 feet off the ground. Zip lining lasted a solid two hours and we definitely got our monies worth. Patrick was a riot; he reminded me of dear ol' Dad teaching me how to ride a bike. He was encouraging, made sure everyone zipped with confidence, and loved cracking jokes. He even showed off his advanced moves, spinning around on the line or swinging backwards. Most importantly, he made sure everyone was safe for each and every zip. When you call to reserve your tour, be sure to ask to have Patrick as your guide. Pretty much anyone can go zip lining: children, retirees, avid rock climbers, and nonathletic people. The only requirements are that you are over 8 years old, weigh no more than 250 lbs, and are capable of doing a short walk up a hill. Our group had two rock climbers, two children, four teenagers, three middle-aged parents, and a handful of 20-somethings And we all had a blast. TIPS: - For attire, wear athletic shoes or hiking boots. Converse tend to slip if the trail is soft. Absolutely NO open toed shoes. Jeans and a tee shirt or exercise clothes are most practical. - Helmets come equipped with camera mounts, perfect if you have a mini video camera. - For regular cameras, bring at your own risk. I had never done a "professional" zip line before so I have nothing to compare these to, but it was very enjoyable and the employees were friendly and efficient. The zip lines were fun and nothing too extreme. It would be fun if they were longer but there is only so much you can do with the ground you are working with. I did come in butt first on one landing and got my shorts pretty muddy. Keeping a towel in the car and wearing clothes that can get a little dirty is a good idea. Although the disclaimers tell you not to bring anything in your pockets the rides are all very smooth. Unless you are clumsy , you probably won't drop anything. Drove out to Rising Sun to zipline at Dagaz Acres after finding a sweet deal on Groupon. I'd always thought the closest zipline course was in Hocking Hills, so it was a pleasant surprise to find something an hour from Loveland. Dagaz is a locally-owned zipline, team-buidling and leadership center that started in Fall of 2008. I went out with my 11 y/o, his buddy and his buddy's dad. Our tour was easy to book online as I quickly found a slot the coming weekend and booked it. We arrived 30 minutes early to sign the paperwork. Good thing we left early as it's a little tricky to find this place. My group of four joining two other two-somes and three guides (Patrick - owner, John, and Jeremiah) on the tour. We started by getting fitted with gear which was easy for my group due to all the rock climbing and other outdoor sports we do. The three guides were there to help ensure everything fitted correctly for comfort and safety. Next, they took us to a baby zipline (about five feet off the ground) to practice some basics. Real quick and simple-to-grasp training. Perfect for a simpleton like me. We then went off to the first zip line. The course is laid out for minimal walking from zipline to zipline. All in all, we zipped across seven lines as well as a burma bridge. The guides were there to help us, but also let us enjoy some of the fun... like spinning while we zipped or jumping off the platforms. One of the guides even took my camera to capture some action shots. And there were constant jokes and stories being told. Great crew! I have been here three times with various family members, the drive is an easy one just take 74 and get off at the suggested exit and only a few minutes from exit, one warning though, when I was there this summer the sign for the turn was a very small Realtor sign. The guys who own it are really cool and make sure everyone has a great experience. As soon as everyone from the party arrives the owners walk the group down to the shelter to get everyone hooked with safety gear and there is a little line for everyone to practice riding the zip line and also how to hold the gear, then after a little walk it's time for the trail. Every line they have is different, there are some that are really high and some that just include walking on wire with the zip line. The final line is a three parter and really fun as you zip to a small platform then from the platform to another small platform built into a tree and for the final just hook up and jump from the platform. My various family members love coming here, I recommend it for everyone and I believe they have special offers and such on Internet site. We had a fun time zip lining for the first time! I'd read all of the tips on the website but I still was hesitant because my 60 yr. old husband had 2 knee replacements 8 months ago and I have a slipped disc in my back and sciatica. There were still a lot of unknowns about how the zip lines take off and landings would be, but we decided to "go for it", taking along our daughter and her boyfriend. We got there about 9:10 a.m. for our 10:00 a.m. reservation. After checking in for the "Premier" course and looking at the souvenirs we waited outside. MISC: We saw a small hawk in the tree above us. There are 2 clean port a potties behind the large sign by the parking lot. The guides take photos to sell, or bring your own camera and risk it dropping into the woods below the zip lines. There were 19 people in our group including 4 young girls, people in their 20's - 40's and us. We had 2 guides and also Patrick (the owner) joined us to "show us the ropes" and help us get our gear on after we walked down a path to the large shelter, and to help us along the way. We walked to the "training zip line" where Patrick showed us the "do's and don'ts" and then to the first of 7 zip lines in the "Premier" course. Both of our young guides (I didn't get their names) were helpful and nice, and we tipped them well at the end. Make sure to bring some cash along to put tips (10-15% of the regular price) into the bucket at the shelter at the end. There are water dispensers and cups at a couple of the zip lines in case you're thirsty, and I was grateful. It had been raining the few days before so the ground was just a little damp and I worried about my husband slipping on the uphill and downhill grades going to and from the zip lines and messing up his knees: however there are lots of tree roots and some man made "steps" in the paths so he did not slip. He is not supposed to jump and running is not easy: however he did not ever need to jump or to run fast. They do instruct you how you need to take off and land but it does take practice, and if you don't put your feet down to land in time you may land on your butt. He even did well on the swinging "Pirate" bridge - even when others on it made it bounce! This is truly a zip line course for beginners, children, and those with imperfect bodies. They do have the more advanced "Ultimate" course for those who want more advanced adventure and are able bodied. I had no back problems on the course, and no fear of heights either (sometimes an issue for me). Keep your eyes open for poison ivy, I saw some near the landing area of the "Big Nasty". This is not a criticism at all because you can't control it in the woods - just a warning to be alert. read more

So disappointed with Dagaz Acres. Wouldn't allow me to reschedule ziplining for me and my son due to the excessive heat. I am dedicated with providing my son with SAFE outdoor adventures. Ziplining with a 9 year old in 110 degree heat index isn't safe. It would seem a good customer service move to allow a reschedule for children in these circumstances. If this is indeed the way they conduct business I certainly will not go there with friends, family or any team bulding event I plan for my staff. read more

Had a great time. Brought a friend that hadn't zip lined before and she loved it. Will definitely go again, next time the longer course. I only gave 4 stars because of the price. If it weren't for the Groupon I had, I probably would have gone elsewhere. There are zip lines everywhere, you would think they would be a tad bit cheaper. My family and I had an awesome time at Dagaz Acres! The staff was very helpful and friendly. Joe and Josh made us feel very safe the whole time even while training a new employee. We loved everything about it. My kids are 7 and 9 years old and they had a blast. The ground to ground zips were very easy for them. The landings we nice and easy listening to the guides is important so you know what to do each zip is different. They also take pictures of the group along the way that you can buy at the end. All and all it was a grey day can't wait to go back! read more

We went with some friends for an afternoon tour and were really glad we made the trip. Even a few of our group that were timid about heights found the course to be fun and safe. November 9th we had a beautiful day to zipline at Dagaz Acre! Staff/ owners were amazing! But we have ziplined in Belize, and West Vurginia, and this zipline was not safe especially for adults! You had to run down hill to lift off on several lines, one man tripped going down, and several landings had major impact on body ( ESP legs and knees) because you landed into the hill!!!!!! Also there was only one point person managing 2 ziplines next to each other ! I personally had experience if point person having to last minute put his body in front of me last minute to stop me in my landing. Thus was one of their fastest ziplines, and it was scary, and if I had not yelled out I would have been more hurt! Heavier people had some landings on their butts!!! I would not take a risk with their current system ! The other two experience had soft landings and a better action plan and we had one on one point person for landings! You sign for risk, think twice before going!! read more

I had the worst experience with this "professional zip lining location". I wouldn't even give it a star, but I had to give at least one. I was supposed to have my bachelorette party here and there had been thunderstorm warnings in the area since 8am that morning. No one had called me and we were scheduled to be there, so once all of my girls got into town, we headed that way. FIFTEEN MINUTES before we were supposed to be there (so obviously we were almost there), they called and cancelled my tour for the day. Then he tried to offer me a raincheck, which wouldn't work because it was my bachelorette party for one, and two there was no way I was going to be able to get all of my girls to take off work again and come down. I asked for my money back after playing a nice long annoying game of phone tag with them because everyone there is impossible to get ahold of. I asked for it back and it still hasn't been returned to me. I tried calling, left messages, and still no one has the consideration to call me and explain to me why my money hasn't been returned. Needless to say, I will never go here again and I will always give a poor recommendation whenever I'm asked. I love zip lining, but I'll never go here because of their extreme lack of professionalism. read more
