I really wanted to like this place. Especially because it's a family owned local Hawaiian restaurant. But we really did not enjoy the food. My husband ordered it to go. He got the shoyu poke bowl while I got the short ribs lunch plate. We also ordered the spam musubi and the malasadas. With all the rave reviews everyone gave this place, maybe my expectations were too high. But the poke bowl was bland while the short ribs plate was overly salty. The egg roll that it came with was soggy and salty. I usually have a pretty salty taste preference but I couldn't even finish my lunch because it was too salty. The spam musubi was nothing special and fell completely apart after the first bite because it wasn't wrapped all the way around. We have eaten at plenty of Hawaiian places and this did not meet our expectations as far as quality of food goes. I was pretty disappointed to have spent $40 for lunch and was so underwhelmed. Born and raised in Waialua/Haleiwa area...grew up on the beach surfing so plate lunches are in my DNA. I was excited to try a new "Hawaiian" spot and this looked promising. We had the meat jun, chicken katsu, fried noodles, loco moco and a couple malasadas to go. Meat Jun was ok except I had no sauce; not really meat Jun without the sauce. Eggs were a little burnt and overcooked. Chicken katsu was overcooked and a bit dry. Once again no sauce...defnitely not chicken katsu without katsu sauce (no worry made my own when I got home). Fried noodles was ok except by the time I got it home it was put in the container piping hot so it continued to cook and became a fried noodle loaf. Mac salad was missing something cant quite put my finger on it but it was better than Ono or the Aloha chains. The rice....need to teach the cooks to shake off the excess water when they scoop nothing more nasty than grabbing some rice and bite into a soaked mushy area of rice. The malasadas..sorry they should not be called that. They were almost black (should be golden brown) and completely overcooked with none of the chewy moist center malasadas are known for. This was a Saturday evening and only a handful of customers so the cooks had time to do everything right (they took 30 mins for my order) but maybe they had the B team in place. Flavors seemed to be there so ownership must know what they are doing just need that quality control on the cook line. I'll give then another try in a couple weeks. read more

This is probably my favorite place for malasadas in San Diego county. It's a small restaurant in a clean new center. They offer poke bowls and Hawaii plate lunches. They do carry some Hawaii snacks and souvenirs. You are greeted with a friendly aloha smile. And they are very welcoming. We purchased a dozen of haupia filled malasadas. Haupia is a sweet coconut pudding. The malasadas are made to order, so there was a fifteen minute wait. But it was all worth the wait. They taste just like the ones in Hawaii. They do offer other flavor filled ones and they also have malasadas without filling. We also recommend trying the poke bowls. It's quite tasty. So if you're looking for a Hawaiian lunch/dinner in the area stop buy. You won't be disappointed. read more

So confused. This place has really good food... like the genuine authentic Kalua pork but how is anyone supposed to know about it? This place is hidden. There is zero signage. The guy taking our order couldn't recommend a poké this place bowl because he had never tried any? Huh? The menu on the TV screens has smaller letters than the DMV. The paper menu gives no description of what is on the sandwiches. Our trusty order taker had no clue what was on them. We ordered 2 pork sandwiches and Dole whips and sat outside. They brought us our sandwiches in tiny to-go boxes with napkins.... Uhhhh We didn't order it to-go. Where is my plate? No chips? I wish I would have known I needed to order some (Thanks, menu). One bite of the sandwich in that 4x4in stirophome container and it went ererywhere. We had to leave. So disappointed. My husband was going to order more food after we ate our sandwiches. But you know how that ends, because I am in the car right now. read more

I believe they had a booth set up at the Mira Mesa New Year Festival today. They had three flavors for malasadas: sugar, cinnamon sugar, and lihi mui. Since I like trying new things, I asked what the last flavor was. The lady explained to me that it was a plum flavor and sweet, so I went for it. When I got my malasada, it was fresh and was not filled but still tasted like custard. It really tasted like a Chinese donut. The exterior was generously doused with the lihi mui flavor, it couldn't be missed. Although I enjoyed the interior, the exterior was completely covered with the lihi mui flavor, which actually turns out to be salted plum, and not sweet as the lady said. That description was misleading and I wish they could have been more forthcoming about describing the flavor profile (or add a description to the menu?). The lihi mui coating is actually very salty upon biting into it, almost like licking salt, just overtook and burned the mouth, and then it switches to a vinegary sour flavor, and because it completely covered the donut, there was no escape, so I had to scrape off a lot of the coating on my donut. It coated the donut so much that I couldn't tell if the fried exterior just tasted that way. What little sugar there was didn't help. Sure, I got a little relief after finally getting past the outside and could taste the inside, but the biting flavor was overwhelming and made my experience not so enjoyable. Well, now I (and you) know what lihi mui is. I should have just stuck to what flavors I know. And yes, I did write all of this for just one donut. read more

First off I LOVE Hawaiian food. Maybe it's an islander thing since I'm Puerto Rican and us islanders need to stick together. Maybe it's just dat da grindz are just so good. My attempt at pidgin. Anyhow my girl found this little gem, which sucks because we're moving away in a month. But as we were eating we were making excuses for getting back up here. I had the kalua pork plate lunch, musubi and she had the Portuguese sausage/spam combo with eggs and a malasada. The owners are very friendly and have the aloha spirit. The place is small but very clean! When the food arrived the kalua pork and musubi smelled heavenly. It was a rare rainy cold day here, but the smells took me back to the North Shore. We dug in and everything tasted great. The mac salad was the only thing that was okay, but I know there are many recipes for mac salad and so life goes on. The entrees were delicious, generous portions for a plate lunch. The musubi with Portuguese sausage was great. Now for dessert the malasada. Now we are spoiled. No trip to the islands is complete without a trip to Leonard's. But holy haole this malasada is pretty dang spot on. We will coming back here. Hate to say it but highly disappointed. I got the sausage, egg and rice burrito, simple and very bland. Could use more sausage. Since I checked in I got the free malasada, you could get it filled (chocolate, vanilla, coconut) or not filled... I went with the chocolate. It was ok... the chocolate taste like the pudding you get in those little to go cups you give your kids to take to school. Overall customer service was great can't complain. Maybe I'll have to give it another try and see if maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. read more

My taste buds had an amazing experience here. This place has so much variety and the food tastes fresh and amazing. We ordered the Samoan plate and it is filled with Samoan traditional deliciousness (lamb, chop suey, taro, sausage, coconut oka, and brisket) which had my husband and I reminiscing about the great times at home in Samoa around the table with family. The price for the amount of food is unmatched. Also the Hawaiian poke bowl is amazing and the lumpia is delicious. Everything tasted great and fresh and the service was awesome and the facilities were clean and welcoming. We Love this place! This is the Best island food I've ever had here on the mainland. Suggested to us by a Temecula resident, we made the trek up from San Diego County. We ordered Moco Loco and lunch special poke. Both were excellent and a good value for the price. Cute little place tucked between other small businesses in the plaza center. Soul helped us with our order. He and his wife are the owners and it's only been open for 3 months. You can see all the Hawaiian items they sell and make you want to go visit Hawaii. We ordered the spam, Portuguese sausage, eggs with rice plate as well as the spam and eggs with rice plate. Reasonably priced. They were accommodating when I asked for over medium eggs since they said they usually make the eggs scrambled which I don't like. The food was plenty and the sausage wasn't spicy (which I'm glad). Definitely island hospitality and felt like home. Delicious! We had the pork entree and the California poke. The pork was amazing but I didn't love the salsa on the poke so I'll be trying something else next time. The tuna on the poke was delicious though and I loved that we could get half salad half rice with it so I got a little of both and still felt like a healthy option!
