Everything in here is legit and you will be SO glad you found this little gold nugget. Skip any other art supply store-- this is where the Pros go. ;) The service was very easy going and helpful if I had any questions. Definitely a vibe for the Art crowd in this little store. It's a little store with MANY art supplies and niche tools, from pens, brushes to paints and canvases. A mini artist's paradise! The cost and value of all the tools and supplies in this store are fairly priced and even better for those who are students and teachers (discounts for them). I would recommend this spot to those who are serious artists and newbies looking to find the right art gear without guessing. Tip: Parking is street and neighborhood or the garage which is $3 for an hour. If you eat at Handels ice cream or one of the places nearby they comp your parking ticket which is cool too. Blue Rooster Art Supplies is one of several independent art supply stores in Los Angeles and the…read moreshop has another location in Pasadena. Each year, Blue Rooster offers a Summer Anniversary Sale in July and they recently celebrated their 23rd year. [Parking]: Metered parking only. Our party ended up parking on Maubert Ave and walking here. [Supplies]: Almost anything Blick carries, Blue Rooster carries as well despite having a smaller retail space. The supply shop also carries premium handmade watercolor brands such as Stoneground and watercolor supplies occupy about 25% of the store, but they did run out of some specific colors for certain watercolor brands like Stoneground. They also carry Copic markers, Lyra Aqua Brush Duo markers, LePen markers, POSCA markers, Pilot pens, blank canvases, toolboxes, etc. Blue Rooster Art Supplies also carries more specialized brands of paper here. [Conclusion]: This flagship store has a smaller space and is less convenient to park than the Pasadena location and the Pasadena location also has a shop cat. With that being said, this is still a solid neighborhood art supply shop in Los Feliz.

While the shop is small, they stock all of the essential art supplies (brands like STABILO, POSCA, and DecoColor) so customers can be more intentional with what they want to buy. The store requires ID checks for paint marker purchases. In addition, the shop also carries a large selection of Asian art materials for calligraphy (e.g., square paper, calligraphy brushes, calligraphy books, ink stones, black sumi ink, brush hangers, etc). Apparently students from USC who take calligraphy courses come here to purchase their supplies. Overall this is a decent shop for anyone looking to restock art supplies or buy calligraphy materials. P.S. - There is metered street parking in front of the store, but there are also few free designated parking spots behind the shop.
