10/10, absolutely LOVE this place! Angela is an angel and has been the only stylist to touch my hair in the last 15+ years! She has styled my hair through many phases of my lifetime, including the scene pink stripe days! To this day, she makes all of her clients feel like family. The decor in her salon is such a vibe also, complete with a stylist Marilyn Monroe aesthetic! Angela truly is a "hairapist", as she has doubled as my hairdresser and therapist for years past. After admiring a friend's hair for weeks, I finally asked who she was trusting to keep her locks lovely. Turns out Alex at D Retro Salon & Spa is super talented when it comes to coloring and styling hair. My first visit was without flaw. He gave me a thorough consultation that helped him hone in on the right color(s) to add warmth and light to my naturally brown hair without being too bright. Foils are a pain and require a painstaking process but he did the deed efficiently while we chatted. The second he finished shampooing me and I caught a glimpse of my still-wet hair I sighed a big sigh of relief and flashed a big grin. It was already evident that the color was perfect. The price was also a pleasant surprise (considering color and cut took more than two hours) but it is the results that will ensure I happily return. Hair's to you, Alex! read more

I like this place enough to give it four stars. The staff are super friendly, and the place in general has a great vibe to it. My only gripe is that I went in for a mani-pedi, which did not last. The very next morning I woke up to chipped fingernails, and toenails. And, it got worse. By the end of the second day, my fingers and toes looked like they had been done over a week ago. read more

I'm a bit biased as I've been getting my hair "did" by Alex since he started in school. He's always been extremely passionate about his profession, and that has made him the excellent stylist and colorist he is today. I wouldn't trust my hair to anyone else. Really love this place! My stylist is Rachel- I followed her from one of the mall salons and so glad I did. She does an amazing job with my cut and color and the prices are reasonable in comparison to the corporate owned salons or the typical South Tampa salons. The place is on Bearrs Ave, easy to get to off I-275 (just north of the Fletcher Ave exit. When you step inside, everyone greets you, they are all chit chatting, laughing and generally making the time you're in the chair fun. What I love most about this place (aside from my stylist) is the fact it is a family owned business and they treat you like you are more than just a customer here.
