A WORD OF CAUTION FOR PARENTS AND FAMILIES
I believe it is important to share my experience with D-Bat Nashville to help other families make informed decisions when choosing where to do business.
As a parent of a child who has faced significant medical challenges (undergoing a stem cell transplant for sickle cell anemia), I understand that life can change in an instant. When your child is dealing with serious medical issues, your priorities shift. Your focus becomes their health, recovery, and well-being. Sometimes, administrative tasks that would normally be simple can fall through the cracks during these difficult seasons.
Unfortunately, my experience with this company has been disappointing. I attempted to cancel his membership last year in August because things began to change medically and my son could no longer participate in practicing baseball, but the cancellation did not process as intended, it only suspended for 6 months. Charges in excess of $700 continued to accumulate from Feb- Sep 26' during a period when my family was navigating significant medical circumstances. The charges finally stopped because I just so happen to find a charge that I didn't recognize and immediately called to inquire about it. I initially received the run around and told to contact corporate for a refund, only to get a response (after a week of unanswered emails and voice mail) from corporate just to say they don't handle those type of disputes and I needed to contact the local D-Bat franchise.
When I reached out to the owner to explain the situation and request consideration for a refund, I was informed that their cancellation policy was firm and that the refunds 2 months $160 already provided exceeded what they were obligated to offer. While I acknowledge the refunds issued, I was disappointed by the unwillingness to reconsider the remaining charges in light of the circumstances.
My concern is not simply about the money. It is about how a company that caters to children and families responds when a family is facing extraordinary challenges.
Policies are important, but so are compassion, understanding, and customer service. Families dealing with serious medical conditions should not have to worry about whether a company will demonstrate reasonable consideration when unexpected circumstances arise.
I encourage parents, especially those caring for children with complex medical needs, to carefully review cancellation policies, keep documentation of every cancellation request, and confirm in writing that memberships have been terminated.
I am sharing my experience so others can make informed decisions. Every family's experience may be different, but mine has left me disappointed in how this situation was handled.
Compassion matters. Accountability matters. And how a company treats people during difficult seasons matters.
