We wanted to try a place in East Village where we could sample local craft beers. Just wanted beer! The service was great with a very informative bartender. The place is nothing fancy but we were not looking for fancy - just beer! I don't think we ended up with local beers but the bartender let us try a few sips of several to figure out what we both wanted. Happy with our experience. It's a great place for a stop!

Solid craft beer bar. Met some friends here. Divey, but with a surprisingly good beer menu. They also have some non-beer options for the non-beer drinkers you bring with you. Apparently there is mario kart, but did not ask about how to play. Draft prices are great. Bottles/Cans perhaps a little high, but they have a business to run. Relatively spacious, but can get crowded. There are some couches in the back. Just make sure you don't need to do anything beyond a #1 in the bathroom, lol.

I passed by this bar on the way home, saw that they had Mario kart, decided to stop by! took a gamble on trying out their picklebacks, I'm definitely a fan. If you're ever here, try out the continental breakfast, it's a fantastic sour beer. I'll definitely be back next time I visit. Say hi to William the bartender if you see him!

Craft beers and a Nintendo Switch for Mario Kart. Happy hour until 9pm. Is there anything more you need in life to be happy? What's that? Some four-legged companions? Sure, this place is also dog friendly. Honestly, one of the greatest bar concepts around. It gets crowded, so get there early and snag a table. The backyard is sadly now permanently closed.

***400th Review*** We were in here 3 different nights on our trip to NYC at the end of March! This was about a 10 minute walk from our lodging. This spot had two things I wanted: 1. Happy Hour 2. Dog Friendly Yes, a pet friendly bar! Apparently since they do not sell food, this bar allows dogs. There is a nice outdoor space in the back, it's covered and heated. A couple of the dogs were running around on the patio and making new friends. I was traveling with my five pound Shih Tzu, he was happy to sit on my lap, but I appreciate that I could bring him in. The happy hour was pretty good for NYC. The hours for the discounted drinks were fairly long on the weekdays that we were in the city. There was a limited selection of pints of beer and well drinks for $5, not bad for Manhattan. I believe I had some Abita Light, which was not too bad. I liked the casual vibe in this establishment, this isn't a pretentious bar where you need to worry about dressing to the nines. We had some nice chats with various customers on two of the visits and I would say it was a friendly crowd. The youngsters were all very polite to us 30 somethings! One of the girls I was chatting with mentioned that people use the back patio of d.b.a for dog birthdays, which is cool since this was also a popular event to have in Los Angeles (where we used to live). I would definitely come back if I was in the area! There is another pet friendly bar in Brooklyn, but we didn't make it over there.

Late review...but I visited d.b.a a few weeks ago. My first trip to NYC, and this is definitely one of my favorite spots! The beer selection was INCREDIBLE, and the bartender even hooked my friend and I up with a flight to share. Both draft and can options were seriously impressive, especially the fruity/sour ales. Music and overall vibe were also fantastic--again, the amazing staff connected Mario Kart to the TV while my friend and I sipped some of the best craft beer I had in the city. Even got to try my first pickleback shot...cannot recommend this place enough!

Solid low-key place for happy hour that has a fairly large backyard and an excellent rotating selection of craft beers. I've come in here only a few times but I like it enough that I'm almost willing to make it a regular spot when people want to hang out downtown. They also allow dogs inside and last time I went there was a great dane large enough to eat all of your babies. He was majestic. Photobooth as well is situated in the back. They keep the backyard covered in the fall and winter with an atrium greenhouse like setting but there is still a small area uncovered for smokers or if you like getting fresh brisk air. Geeky cocktails are usually listed. Haven't tried one yet: Princess Toadstool, the Return of the Deter, and Kylo Ren which is 1/3 daddy issues with bitters and grenadine and a little pilsner. I can't express how much joy their creativity gives me. Happy hour is $5 beers but they're usually solid beers marked down from $7-8. $5 wines/wells. Picklebacks I think are usually $5. All in all its a chill friendly place with a number of neighborhood pups that I could watch for hours.

This East Village bar manages to hold its own. Besides table Pac-Man, there's more brandy than you can shake a stick at. An airy patio provides patrons with the opportunity to relax and chat, though their front's more open layout (read: less seating) facilitates a better happy hour. A friendly bartender poured us beaucoup shots (some costing beaucoup cash; credit cards accepted) while we carried on into the night. I don't remember the bartender's name, but I do remember to make d.b.a. part of my regular bar rotation. Usually.

Casual place to grab a drink with some friends. We give it extra points for the pickle ball shots and mario cart.

Upon arriving, I was immediately greeted by the manager and other staff to make sure I was all settled for my party, which I really appreciated. This space has a partnership with a pizza place up the street to order food but also provides flexibility to bring in your own food which a lot of places do not allow. They also allowed me to bring balloons and cake which many places also don't allow. I had around 40 people and there was plenty of space to sit down or stand. It wasn't too loud so I was able to have a conversation with friends while also enjoying the music. The music was great and we even stayed afterwards to enjoy the DJ and the vibes were still strong. If you're looking for a private space, this is the perfect spot for your party! My friends are still talking about how cool this space was and were very impressed!

After opening a number of successful bars in New York City, including Death & Company and Cienfuegos, DeRossi decided to open a new bar with a focus on rare, new, and unusual craft beer offerings. Originally opening in the St. Marks section of the East Village, Proletariat quickly earned a reputation for being one of the best craft beer bars in NYC. In June 2022, Proletariat moved to a new, larger space just two blocks away on East 7th Street. In addition to the excellent beer selection, the new location also features a kitchen that offers an array of plant-based dining options. I recently visited Proletariat while I was in the Village to see a concert. I arrived a few hours before the show so I could grab some beers and bites beforehand. Proletariat has been on my NYC craft beer bucket list for a while; they have an excellent reputation. There were maybe four other customers there when I arrived; I felt like I was entering a secret craft beer club. I really liked the wolf featured on the bar's logo. It was clearly a reference to the Latin botanical term for hops: "humulus lupulus", which roughly translates as "the little wolf that comes from the Earth". There were 20 impressive beers on draught during my visit. I decided to order a pour of The Drowned Lands Brewery's "Winnow" (Festbier). It was an excellent example of the style: light and malty. Afterwards, I went with a pour of Sante Adairius Rustic Ales' "The Sky and the Sea" (Blueberry Saison). This was a fantastic beer: nice and tart with delicious notes of blueberries. If you're looking for some great craft beer bars in NYC then add Proletariat to your list!
