There is plenty to recommend this place, but ultimately I found every part of the experience underwhelming. The steak sub they are famous for was ok, but in the bottom 1/3 of my all time list. The seasoned lettuce gimmick added nothing. Definitely ask for peppers though. The sweets were pickled and delicious. My wife got lasagna and I want to believe it was homemade but the flavor and texture were on par with a frozen family dinner. The dough on my daughters personal pizza was tough. Service was friendly but very slow and the restaurant was very cold. We got two deserts but neither left enough of an impression to mention. The place was packed with locals when we were there. Made a special trip here tonight and, once again, wasn't disappointed. Highly recommend their cream of crab soup, which I started off with. I opted for the cheesesteak salad this time instead of the sub--the portions are not lacking just because it's a salad. Usually yelp steers me to fabulous finds but this time the reviews fell short. A large place with upstairs and downstairs seating plus a carry out corner we arrived just after 5 and they were just starting a waitlist. Really good food and it came highly recommended by a friend and business owner in the area. I'm on a restrictive diet but wanted cheesesteak and they offer it here on a salad, which is a great way to reduce the carbs of a steak sub! I ordered but asked for the dressing on the side and they asked if I wanted the flavored lettuce, not knowing what that was, but it sounded good and I said yes. I found out that the flavored lettuce included the dressing on it, but it was a nice Italian dressing and tasted good. I wasn't anticipating the steak, cheese, and hot peppers being underneath the lettuce. Interesting! It was good when hot, but the salad cooled off before I got it back to where I was staying to eat it. The lettuce got very soggy very quickly and to the point where I just threw it out. I think the concept is good but I think there was too much lettuce that weighed down the meat and cheese and that led to the sogginess. I also got a cup of vegetable beef soup and that was tasty. A little heavy on the sodium, but overall a good and hearty soup. I Will be back when I"m in the area, good food, and hopefully next time I can have the steak and cheese on a roll where it belongs! It is just outside of Cumberland, Md.; been here since 1971. It is a full service Italian restaurant with down home items like meatloaf, burgers etc. BUT what we love is their subs! First the subs are huge..12" long minimum and they have a whole, seasoned salad on top of them so they are 6-8" tall! The famous hot sub with grilled rib eye steak, onions, sweet peppers and provolone cheese; I can't imagine anyone finished it in one setting but??? They have a full service Italian bakery with desserts, breads and pepperoni hoagies to go. We don't drive this way often to get to visit family but when we do... we are so happy to get here! read more

Veal Parmigiana for me and Egg Plant Parmigiana for my bride. My Veal was real fresh and about 8 onces-It was over the top delicious. My wife's Egg Plant was fresh and they provided a huge amount. The side of Spaghetti was pure deliciousness. The Al Dente noodle was the perfect firmness and complimented the clean tasting, well seasoned sauce. The salad had five types of Lettuce, Cherry Tomatoes, Onions, Cucumbers and righteous dressing. The bread changed my life!..-And was served with Real Butter! Margarine is of the Devil. You can whip it or whatever you want...there's no place for it. The bottom line is you need to come here and eat. On our way back home to Pittsburgh from DC we made a slight detour in order to stop at D'Atris Restaurant. My husband had been here before and had raved about their steak sun to me so I had to try it for myself. Thank goodness I went with the smaller size because even it was huge and I had to bring some of it home with me! Honestly I was so surprised when it got to our table, a huge hoagie roll filled with ribeye steak and seasoned lettuce and tomato on top. Don't forget the Miracle Whip, an addition that every sandwich needs. When I got up to use the restroom I noticed the bakery section of the restaurant. The cinnamon buns were the size of dinner plates! And it smelled divine over there. Unfortunately I was too full from eating my sub so I didn't get anything, however I should have picked something up to take home and eat later. Oh well, maybe if we are back that way one day will try one or more of the desserts. This is also the area of the restaurant where you pay your bill on your way out. At the recommendation of the waiter (who was top notch), we ordered the cheesesteak and house pepperoni roll (baked with sauce and cheese). Couldn't resist the beer battered onion rings to go with it. The "small" Cheesesteak was gigantic and topped with what was more like salad than lettuce (it was fantastic). One of the best cheesesteaks I have ever had. Onion rings outstanding but could've been a little more crispy. House pepperoni roll delicious. All of their bread is homemade- perfect balance of crusty and soft. Thankfully they have a bakery where you can purchase bread and pepperoni rolls to go. HORRIBLE experience. Called and ordered a Cheese Steak sub for pickup. It was already going to be over $14 for a 12 inch sub which is ridiculous to begin with. It comes with lettuce and tomato. I didn't want lettuce and tomato so I ordered it with pickles instead. They charged extra for the pickles even though I dropped the tomato and lettuce. What a joke. Tomatoes and lettuce cost more than pickles. It should have just been an even deal. I decided to pay the extra for pickles. The sub was almost $16.00....$16.00 for a sub that was skimpy on meet, a very tiny cup of sweet pickles, and the so called cheese steak was greasy and had a very cheap and old tasting flavor. It was advertised as a hot toasted bun sub. The bun was not toasted. The sub was cold and grease logged. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE and TERRIBLE Customer Service. D'Atri's is a family owned restaurant and has multiple sister restaurants throughout Cumberland. They're famous for their seasoned lettuce and Italian hoagies. They have a huge Italian family vibe and recently updated their menus to include even more options. They also have the seating option of eating upstairs and have a great little bakery. The desserts are to die for! You have to try their Steak and Cheese Salads with extra sweet peppers! That's my go-to! It doesn't really heat up well later, but if you get a small, that's not a problem. ;) They also have many other Italian staples. Good food, no alcohol. Service was excellent even tho our waitress was slammed. Our table had :grilled chicken salad (wife), lasagna (me) and chicken parm and roast beef sandwich for the other couple. The chicken parm was the only "small" portion, which was plenty for anybody. The salad was huge with lots of chicken and, thankfully, no fries or cheese. Lasagna on the other hand was prepared in a deep dish and was smothered in cheese. Of course, outside of Pittsburgh, you order a salad as a lite dinner which gets negated by the addition of fries and cheese. Lots of cheese is a welcome sight on my lasagna tho. D'Atri's uses chopped ribeye that is grilled perfectly with onions. It is then served on a fresh Italian roll with provolone cheese and Miracle Whip.
