The meat, deli, seafood and produce departments offer as much (and sometimes more) variety than the big box retailers. I love that I can get freshly steamed shrimp, fresh hot soups and hot bar selections for the times I don't feel like cooking. When I was my Mom's caretaker, I could not have made it through without the deli, salad and hot bar. As to the employees? Unfailingly polite and helpful. Need a specialized cut of meat? They will cut it for you. Need that wonderful Sahlen's ham sliced a certain way? The deli will slice it custom. Looking for something special in produce? They will do their best to get it for you - and frequently offer produce from local farms. I love the convenience of being able to run to Kennie's as I need. Can't do that with the larger, more distant stores. In short, I am very happy that Kennie's is here in Spring Grove!

But if you just need a few things or something fresh from the bakery or hot bar Kennie's is a great choice. Every Friday they do mark down deals. The magnet mailer is always great for some good deals but they never keep the shelves stocked enough when they do these coupons. Decent size beer and wine section. Service is hit or miss. Usually the workers are very friendly but they can be slow. Normal days they only have 1 maybe 2 checkout lanes open so you have to do the self checkout which I prefer but a lot of older people shop here and they have to wait in the very long lines to checkout. If prices were better I would do all my grocery shopping here.

Forry's is tucked back there-- but it's a true Lancaster County gem. I'm a little transparent with my feelings! Ha! And after oooooing and ahhhhhing one too many times, a fellow shopper said, "so when did you move to the area?" And I had to say "I've been living here for the last twelve years!" And she said, "and you're just now coming here?!?!? What took you so long?!??" My thoughts exactly! Ugggghhhh!!! WHYYYYY DID I WAIT SO LONG?!?? Forry's has a deli counter with all the Lancaster county favorites; soft serve ice cream, a made to order sandwich counter, -- like Subway-- but Soooooo much better (they even have pretzel rolls!!!!) They have produce, meat, bulk goods, frozen gourmet entrees including REAL gnocchi and ravioli-- I mean-- oh my LORD-- that little, non-assuming shop, is tucked in the back -- where one goes there because one wants to-- because it's a heavenly destination-- and exudes love and care from the second you walk in! And as was pointed out to me by the sweetest lady ever at the register: "ya hafta try our oatmeal raisin cookies. They're the best," and she was NOT wrong! We got the chocolate chip ones too. So good. Get over there y'all! Forry's is one of those places that just might renew your faith in humanity and give you a reason to go on. Every time I talked to my dad he would tell me about how great of a store it was supposed to be. Basically I went to contribute something to the conversation and a small part of me was curious also. It was supposed to be modeled after Aldi - for which is kinda a miss for me, but I decided to check them out anyway. It took a few times as they have a 100 person max capacity and the line always snaked around outside. On my 4th try one early morning after opening I was lucky enough to get in without a line. Carts and sanitizing spray and wipes are located outside which I appreciated. Inside the store was nice and bright and aesthetically pleasing as its set up that all the colorful produce, floral, etc catch your eye at the entrance. They have their own bakery, which was a surprise to me. Everything looked fresh, the isles wide and open, and stocked pretty well. Although I couldn't find two items on my list; poppyseed lemon salad dressing and candied pecans. They have all the normal departments, many organic items, and some specialty foods, and several brands I never heard of. Each department is on the smaller size though, so you have to be open to different brands. There's isles in the middle that carry non food products, toys, etc. Everything there was reasonably priced but not discount. Aside from a few "door busters" items that were priced really well (bag of granny smith apples for .99 cents for example), prices were at or above a regular chain grocery store pricing which leads me to why I probably won't stop in often.... At checkout you have to pay for bags (.10 cents each) AND bag your groceries. To me this is a huge turn off. Prices are not that cheap that you need to charge me for bags, and last time I checked my paycheck didn't come from Lidl so why am I doing your job... This bothers me as much as the .25 cent cart deposit at Aldi. When you're trying to load your items on the belt at checkout alone, who also has the time to bag, or reload in your cart to move to a bagging station? To do essentially what I feel the cashier should be doing. I can't image trying to do this while wrestling a few kids and trying to keep a mask on my face, while digging for my credit card for payment, and trying not to hold up the line. Let me make this real clear...they will NOT assist in any way, nor lift one item to place in a bag - yours or store bought - regardless if there's waiting customers or not. I even asked for assistance bagging and was given a hard no. As there are now, I would stop in if I needed one or two items and was nearby. However I won't be a regular customer unless they change their ways to be more customer friendly at the register.
