We got general Tso's for lunch with pork fried rice. It was the worst thing I've ever gotten. The chicken was so dry it was like straws in your mouth and the rice was tasteless. We threw it out. read more

Arg! i went to register one - no line - thought how lucky am I? Well apparently not very! The cashier bagged exactly 2 things - hot soup. The rest he tossed carelessly down the belt for me to bag. My avocados and limes both spilled out of the bag. Guess what? I got home to a hot mess as both lids to the soup came off. Giant customer service has gone downhill fast. Giant in Gettysburg is not a Union Store. It is clean and has prices are not bad in this economy. Has an area to sit and eat when you enter. Has hot food to sell, can eat in store or take home. Got some Chinese food that was just prepared to bring home. Got Shrimp Egg Roll and Bourbon Chicken. Smelled good and tasted great, much better than a local Chinese restaurant I had bought from the week before. Bought a few supplies also before leaving, very impressed with this Giant. Will be shopping there again. read more

Stopped in for snacks for the hotel room and really appreciated that they have a wine and beer area here in the Giant, even if you have to pay for those things in this section before continuing your shop. A very minor inconvenience for the major convenience of only making the one stop. The store is clean and bright and well lit. I found the stuff I needed (well, wanted) and was able to pay for it quickly at the self checkout. There's a Walmart across the street, but it's not a Supercenter and doesn't have a full grocery section. This Giant is leaps and bounds better than that. read more

The bakery out did themselves for my son's birthday. They have many different options to decorate cakes, but not Pac-Man. This store was superb. Some grocery stores are just better than others. This is a great place. The layout makes it easy to see what you are looking for. The salad bar area has tons of options and it is clean and all looks of great quality. The deli and pasty section were out of this world delightful and full of all the smells that continue to make my belly grow more than it should be with no discipline when it comes to food temptation. I only wish there was a super nice grocery store like this where I lived. read more

Went to picked up a six pack of beer, for cooking. The 20 year old, if that ask for my ID. I'm 60, I laughed. Showed him my drivers license. He says "I'll need you to pull that out of the picture slot in your wallet" "I'll need to see the back of it". I said" You're kidding right?" NO! He was laughing the whole time. Funny, I guess. He knew damn well I was old enough to not only buy the beer but to be his grandmother! It was a new wallet, and I had my late husbands drivers license behind it. Made it more difficult to pull out. Went today to finish my shopping from the disastrous Walmart experience so I went to check out Giant. I've shopped at many Giants and this one is so nice. It's one of the best I've seen. Also because of covid19 they counted how many people were in the store. They had marks to show where to stand to get a cart. Then the floors actually had arrows pointing which isle up or down. It's a shame that just about every one has forgotten what to do. Despite the mandatory mask in public nah people don't need those. The social distancing is practically gone. And the worst people are the elderly they just don't understand. I see more hysteria when 3 inches of snow falls and milk, eggs, bread gone. But this this thing could kill you? Is it worth getting dawn for? Anyway the store itself did what they were supposed to do and that made it a touch less stressful. read more

I moved into Gettysburg worried that I wouldn't have my go to store nearby, so I was happily relieved to find a nearby Giant available. Unlike Maryland this store offered wine and beer (Quick grab Christmas gifts). The store is clean and well stocked. The cashiers seem very nice, people at the desk are helpful. The one experience with stockers made me wonder if she heard my question because there was no response although she was looking right at me. I will learn the layout and offerings as time goes by, and the specials are great like a butt ham for less than 9bucks! (Christmas dinner). Very happy to have my Giant in my new hometown. read more

Let me get through this review part rather quick so that I can get to what really sticks in my mind from my visit here. Giant is a chain that is prevalent mostly in eastern Pennsylvania with a few stores in Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia. Like most grocery stores the setup is similar and what is offered doesn't differ much. This location is opened 24/7, featuring a café with beer selection and self check out registered. Like most grocery chains this is a rewards card/program that offers incentives to shop at one of the chain's stores. My visit here was just a quick stop, or what was suppose to be a quick stop. I had come out to Gettysburg for an overnight getaway. What happened to me is that even though I was just staying the night, I forgot something and when I realized I forgot something I had to find a place to purchase that item. Luckily for me this place was open at these late hours and I was able to get my item I needed. But what happened was a really touching moment. The lady in front of me had a larger order and I wasn't in the mood to deal with the self checkouts because there were some type of restrictions in order to use them. I was in no hurry at all as I was on a getaway so I didn't mind. She kept running back and forth grabbing items she forgot, it was like watching an episode of 'Supermarket Sweep.' When she was finally done I put my single item up on the belt and waited again. Throughout this whole ordeal this lady kept apologizing to me that she was taking so long and each time I reassured her that I did not mind one bit. When my item got up to the scanner the cashier scanned it but I had to wait, the lady was still there. She insisted on paying for my singular item because I waited so patiently behind her. I insisted that she needn't do that, but she just smiled and paid. After she paid for my item she looked at me and said, "I always wanted to do that." Made me smile and made me happy inside knowing that there are still people like this in the world. This lady is the reason why people pay it forward. read more

I have been shopping at this store for years. I refuse to give them my business any longer. Time after time I have asked for help finding something only to have an associate shrug me off saying they don't know, not offer to help me or ask someone that WOULD know. Keep in mind I am always in their store with 3 young children in tow, a little help from time to time would be greatly appreciated. Just 5 minutes ago, I called asking if they carry Joseph's Pita bread. The woman on the phone said she didn't know, and did not offer to check. I asked her to check and she put me on the phone for exactly one minute before returning and saying they do not carry the product. She claimed that she checked the aisle, which was a complete lie. I know that store and she didn't check anything in that amount of time. I asked to speak to someone else and got the manager. He immediately knew the brand and said they do carry it, that they get it every few weeks in stock. I asked him to check before I made the 25 minute drive and they did in fact have it in stock. When I told him about my experience with the previous associate he got an attitude and made an excuse for her that they are busy with customers-I have been a faithful customer for 3 years and spend an average of $800 a month in this store! Am I not as important? I'm so angry and disappointed. This is the closet grocery store to me. Good customer service is hard to come by these days, I refuse to spend my money at this establishment. Terrible attitude from the indian guy working the beer garden. I asked him twice if I may drink my beer at the beer garden and eatery (while I waited on my girlfriend)...he says in a dismissive manner 'yes, yes. Go.' Shortly after, I catch him staring at me and he does so for about a minute and then proceeds to angrily tell me I am not allowed to be drinking a beer in the beer garden. I reply with a 'you told me I could..' His attitude only got worse and he demanded I buy something to eat so that it would absorb my alcohol..my one single and only beer I purchased to have. I work til 9pm during ski season many evenings so having a deli open until 10pm is very helpful. However, every time I visit the deli around 9:30pm, I get treated rudely and I can tell that I'm irritating the folks at the deli. So why be open til 10pm, if you're going to treat your customers visiting 30 minutes before you close like garbage. This would be the 3rd time I've had this experience..... common man!!! read more

I shopped at this store for 15 years. I seen customer harrassed cashier. The customer was very rude and was in the wrong. Come to find out they punished the cashier. The cashier was doing her job and got in trouble from a very rude customer. Come to find out the customer came backed and harassed the cashier. So I will take my business somewhere else. Remodeling is finished! New version includes a Beer garden near the deli with tables to consume some of your purchases. Sale of beer 6 and 12-packs in a grocery store is something new in PA. Has a selection of microbrews which can be tried via mix and match 6-pack purchase. This is the largest super market in Gettysburg and includes special sections for organic and Mexican items. It is open 24 hours except a few major holidays. Bags of ice are available as well as a pharmacy. read more

Love this store! We go for the great selection and service, beers, olive bar and fresh produce and meat. I think the only downside is whenever I go, the only 2-3 lanes open are long, and it's 20-30 min away depending on traffic. read more

I came into Gettysburg with a 7th & 8th grade group from Alabama. One of our girls was celebrating her 13th birthday which we didn't realize until we were well on our way. Justin, the manager was so helpful with taking my order over the phone and having the bakery prepare a last minute cake, and best of all helping to get it delivered to our destination in Gettysburg. Giant in Gettysburg has a great store. I love the Horizon Organic Milk (either whole or 2%) BUT the majority of time I cannot reach the item. The front items are already purchased and I cannot reach the one in back of it. I am a 5'8" tall (83 years old) and I frequently have to get a young person that can climb the shelf to get for me. PLEASE keep the milk pushed to the front for accessibility. read more

Came in at a later hour around 9:30, and no one was in the bakery so we ask a kind women in the deli to see if they could get us cupcakes out for my sisters 19th birthday she didn't hesitate to help us and go look to see if anyone was there but there wasn't. Tanya from the deli took the time to help us get the cupcakes and did it in a friendly caring manner! We need more people like Tanya!! read more

I too have shopped Giant forever spending close to 500 or 600 dollars a month and find that recently either their employees don't care or whatever but it seems to go downhill at times. I have on occasion found OUT OF DATE food, moldy produce, and there has been one item that has not been on the shelf for over 2 months but yet the tag indicates it should be there, so someone is not ordering what should be there. Just today I am missing a bag of chips (no big deal) however I am on a budget and me having to drive back into town for this won't happen, I will get them on the next day I go back. read more

I just want to say this week while grocery shopping I was very disgusted with the produce at the Giant in Gettysburg. Apples were laying on the display with rotting spots. The broccoli was like picking up a rubber band, the watermelon display smelled of rotten watermelon. Needless to say I left the store without purchasing any produce. I'm pretty certain Wal-mart's produce selection had to be better than that!!! read more

This store has been hard to shop since the construction started. It use to be you couldn't find what you were looking for. Now when you find it there are so many stocking carts in the aisle that you can't get to it. The major stocking should be done at night and not during shopping hours. If there was another major supermarket nearby, I'd be doing my shopping there. read more

It's weird to write a review of a big box grocery store, but this is important, so deal with it. Vegans, lend me your ears! When I moved to Gettysburg a year ago, Giant had no organic section or "natural foods" section, but they fixed that up real good because they totally have one now. This grocery story is the ONLY place in Gettysburg that you can get daiya. And more than one kind of daiya! This is kind of a big deal. There's an entire section at this grocery store full of stuff you could normally only find, in an urban area, at like a Whole Food or Trader Joe's maybe. Organic almond butter? Check. Bob's Red Mill Arrowroot flour? Check. Daiya, organic produce (but it's a small-ish selection), tons of organic chocolates, organic bread, soy/coconut/hemp/oat/almond milks, organic tea, the list goes on and on.
