D&J just keeps proving that having an honest community mechanic is worth its weight in gold. Wife has a AWD minivan, newish. Took it into local dealership for an issue we hoped would be covered by warranty (nope!). As a courtesy, the dealership inspected the rest of the vehicle and gave her a list of needed repairs, among them, new pads and rotors. Price was about $800 and when she called me I thought that was above my threshold to not get a second quote. Took it to a local chain store that focuses on tires and brakes. They said I needed pads and rotors and quoted about the same. I dropped it off with D&J, didn't ask for a quote, just told him to change the pads and rotors. He called me that afternoon and said I had another 25,000 miles or so and didn't need any work. 20,000 miles later, I brought it back to him and he changed out the front pads and told me the rotors were all fine and rear pads are still fine. About $125. I'd love to call out the dealership and the chain store for churning business or being "aggressive", but I'm not. Let me just say that that chain store will never see another of my cars and that dealership won't sell me another car or work on another of my cars.
