Scott's Auto Repair

Scott's Auto Repair

On a side street is a hidden gem for auto repair. They fix only what is broke at a very reasonable…read moreamount. I have to drop off my vehicle and do not know how long it will take to get fixed, but that is the way car repairs go.

I took my car to Scott's Mechanic on Friday, June 3rd 2022. Smoke was coming from the front hood…read morenear coolant area. Scott diagnosed the issue & said I just needed a new radiator cap and replaced. Prior to me driving away, the car started smoking again in the same place and it was leaking now towards the front near the radiator. Scott informed me a radiator needed to be replaced. At 5:50pm he replaced my radiator and re-installed the fan he had to remove to do so. When he started the car, smoking was still occurring in the same area & he said he couldn't diagnose further until next week. I could drive but be sure to turn off engine at stop lights so it wouldn't overheat and that he thought it was the "coolant fan relay." The next week, he said the radiator fan needed to be replaced and charged me for the part, but would complete labor for free. He said because he'd do labor for free it wasn't a priority. He replaced the fan on 6/7 after he accidentally ordered wrong part. He also replaced the coolant recovery tank. He said the coolant leak damaged a coil and to come back the next day on 6/8 and he replaced a coil & spark plug. $735.00 of charges later, my car had smoke coming out the rear end. I took it to the closest mechanic. "Vehicle Needs New Engine." They completed a compression test. I tried calling Scott that Thursday and left a voicemail that the car broke down and had been smoking out the rear. He doesn't carry a cell phone and doesn't include an email address on his business card. I tried calling him over the next weekend and the following Monday and his voicemail was full. I had traveled from a different state and was trying to start a new life and couldn't succeed without a vehicle. I was forced to get on a plane and donate the vehicle as I didn't have the title in my possession, the state of MS said they mailed and I never received it and couldn't afford to not work and wait a couple weeks to do obtain another. I invested over $5000.00 for it three months ago. He never even called to apologize. I think he mis-diagnosed the car, postponed repairs and feel he may have broke the fan when he replaced the radiator which could have overheated the engine. I also feel he should have known the smoking from the coolant tank could be damaging the coils and corrected. I feel if I would have listened to another local shop, my car would not have been a loss.

They thought I was going to drop it off the whole day and they would get to it when they could. I asked if I could reschedule three days later at 9:00am when they open. they said yes and he wrote me down on his desk. I come three days later and hand him my keys and tell him I want a diagnostic check only and ask how long will it take. he rambled on without any direct answer. I was picked up and I went home. I had to be dropped off four hours later because my ride had to go to work. I go in and ask what was wrong with my car. they said they are not finished with it. I go outside and wait a while and go inside and look through their glass door and am reading their inspection requirements. the owner asks if I need assistance and I said I am just looking. He tells me I need to either wait inside or outside. half an hour later, they are done. He finally gives me the diagnostic and thought I was going to let them work on my car after waiting over three days and five hours on a job that takes thirty to forty minutes to do. I took my diagnostic report and went somewhere else.

Both times I have come here, there has been no wait for service, which is a plus when you have a tight schedule to meet. I pulled in and was immediately greeted with a friendly smile and how are you today. I told the gentleman what I needed done, and he proceeded to begin working immediately. any questions or concerns I had were answered and taken care of very professionally and very quickly, which is a good sign of customer service being done correctly. I had an oil change done here a few months ago, so when I pulled in today, he was quickly able to pull up my information which speeded the process along rather nicely. they pulled my air filter out and showed me the wear and tear on it, and replaced it at a very minimal cost which is a nice addition to the final outcome of the visit. I was in and out of here in right around 15 minutes, and my short time here was handled quickly and professionally by the staff, they cleaned my windows, and checked my tires and that was something I didn't even ask for, kudos on the customer service skills Oil Time, you have it down to a "T". if your looking for a quick oil change, and are in the Festus area, be sure to stop in at Oil Time, their staff is friendly, helpful and will have you in and out of there in no time, and without spending an arm and a leg on your oil change. These guys know what they are doing, so be sure to check them out to see for yourself...
