Such a wonderful experience! I got the groupon special and got an awesome deal for an hour and a half of riding for my sister and I. We arrived 30 minutes early and were given a bandana (that we got to keep!), a helmet and a fanny pack loaded with a water bottle. There were a ton of well behaved dogs hanging out at the stables, which made the experience even better for me! After getting on your horse, the group leader gave basic instructions for riding before we left. We had Lindsey and she was very informative! They make you feel like a pro by the time you are done riding! We learned so much during our ride. Our instructor loved answering questions and helped us a lot! We were greeted by a friendly office lady who gave us clear instructions about signing forms and where to wash hands, etc. She pointed us to our picnic area for the pony party and informed us to wait for our ponies. I was a little surprised at the condition of the picnic area... maybe it was the fact that it was right next to the parking lot, or maybe it could have been maintained and tidied up a bit more, but it was supplied with a table, firepit, swing set, and trampoline.. as advertised. The pony party was supposed to supply us with TWO horses (that is what we paid for). Unfortunately, we were only provided with one horse due to the number of riders that came to our party, which I disagreed with but tried to go with the flow on this one. There was a groundskeeper that kept asking to take our pony away when we were eating our picnic and it felt slightly rushed when we had an entire hour left to ride. Overall, everyone was friendly, and the pony party was fun for the kiddos... but as the paying adult, there were a couple of head scratchers. I can't speak for the trail rides, but that appeared to be an entirely different experience and the stables and trails seemed organized and well maintained. read more

They have limited number of horses , so if you are not there early chances are you might have to wait for an hour or two (or even more). I went here almost an year ago. We got there at 11:00 AM.They charged us $50 per person and told us the wait is between 15 min - 20 min , wish this was true. After waiting for almost 2 hours they told us that we have to wait another 2 hours. C'mon? seriously .. are you importing your horses from Arabia for me to ride? The service was as fast as mowing your lawn with scissors. None of the employees had any clue how long the wait is , they kept on saying 20min. We got money refunded and never returned. read more

Went here for an afternoon activity while we were in Houston visiting a friend. It was a fun time and would not be opposed to coming back. I wish there was a little bit more instruction, They gave you a basic "here's how you go, here's how you stop" lecture for about 5 minutes. It was very informal which I appreciate. However, my horse was having some issues so I missed most of the talk because another staffer was trying to get my horse in line. The trail trip was nice and quiet. They have a beautiful route through the woods. There were two instructors for our group of 12 or so. They positioned the guides in the 1st and 5th spots of the horse line. That means that us near the back almost never heard anything that they had to say. We survived, so it probably wasn't urgent. But, it might have been nice to be able to understand what instructions they were trying to convey. Overall, this was a fun activity. The horses were well trained and the guides and staff were all a delight. I would be happy to come back again in the future. read more

I chose this center because I looked around for places to ride for a few weeks leading up to our anniversary. The staff was very professional when it came to answering questions, making reservations and just being generally friendly. I called a few other places, and it was ridiculous. Especially the other location that is close by- their mailbox was full for 3 days, and after emailing them, I got a one sentence email in response. RUDE! My husband and I loved this place. The staff was eclectic-but you can tell the horses are loved and are familiar with the staff. Many of the horses are older and have strong personalities. I rode Buddy. He's an older horse that likes to have his space. Other horses getting too close close to him made him antsy and he would bite at them... So the handlers made sure I was aware and comfortable handling him. I have experience with horses so I didn't mind. He and I got along fine. All in all- we will be back. My daughter will want to do the trail ride with us next time! read more

I had a wonderful time on my trail ride! From start to finish things operated smoothly. We arrived at 9:30 am and not long after were introduced to our horses and provided with some basic instructions. My 11 year old niece who had been dreaming of riding a white horse, was initially assigned a brown horse, but was quickly accommodated once the staff found out her wishes. The trail itself is a very beautiful and peaceful route that ran along the Cypress creek. The route was easy to navigate and well shaded. My horse Dancer was amazing. I didn't have to do much guiding as I was behind another rider and so Dancer just paid attention and followed the other horse . Our host Rachel has a great personality, explained things well, and kept everyone engaged. Definitely would love to return and spend more time on the trails. read more

It was my first time visiting Cypress Trails. Great ranch. The horses looked well taken care of. The people around knew what to do, whether it is cleaning up, getting the horses ready, getting the riders ready, greeting them after the ride, etc. I had the privilege of meeting Darolyn Butler, the ranch owner, who accompanied me on a trail ride to the Mexican a Restaurant La Cabana. Darolyn first checked if my saddle was set up correctly, making sure my feet and my legs were in position. Then she taught me how to go over tree logs. No doubt Darolyn was an experienced rider and trainer. Definitely a place to visit if you are looking for trail rides, or training to be better rider. read more

We went on a muddy day so I recommended wearing boots so you can rinse them off easily. Arrive at least 30 minutes early because you need to pick out a helmet (bring your own if possible) and you need to wait for everyone in your group to get saddled in. Also, use the restroom before arriving or you will have to use the port a potty. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and check in was quick and easy. We did an hour and a half ride and that was long enough. The trail was nice and interesting. Interesting because it was so muddy and the horses would get close to the trees so they could walk in less mud. All in all it was a good experience. read more

Bike or skateboard helmets should NEVER be allowed. You should have a riding helmet that they provide for you or that they check if you bring your own. Riding helmets should meet ATSM/SEI standards and have this certification shown inside the helmet. Riding helmets can reduce riding related head injuries by 50%. No one should EVER be allowed to ride wearing tennis shoes. Boots should have at least a 1/2 inch heel. Check to see if the facility has certified riding instructions and follow the safety standards such as CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association). If not, don't ride there. read more

My boyfriend and I are currently active duty; I'm stationed in WA and he's in New Jersey so we planned a trip to Houston, TX while we were on leave and I had the bright idea of going horseback riding. He found Cypress Trails through a Google search and I emailed to make an appointment for the both of us to go on the "Adventure Trails." We arrived there 30 minutes late, but the owner did not seem to mind. After we signed some paperwork and paid ($80 for the both of us for one hour of riding), we were assigned our horses. Our ride was scheduled for only an hour, but we needed up staying out on the trail for an hour and 30 minutes. The only downside was the weather--a really bad thunderstorm came in that weekend and they called to push back our appointment time--no biggie because we had been in touch with them earlier about the weather. My boyfriend and I had a blast and said we would love to come back and ride with them again. Our guide was very very sweet and patient with us since we were both green riders. We got key-chains and bandannas and they took photos of us on our horses. I would recommend seeing Darolyn Butler at Cypress Trails if you plan a trip to Houston. read more

I had heard about this place about a year ago from a friend. I booked a 2 hour ride for my two daughters and wife for her birthday. It was really awesome!! Liz was our guide. I was pretty impressed with how organized and on the ball they were. From the minute I walked up, they were on top of things and got us all set up on our horses. The horses are very good quality. My daughter rode a championship horse that is worth over $50,000. I was pretty impressed. I definitely will be going back for a longer ride next time. read more

The trail ride itself was fun and relaxing. However, I felt it to be unsafe. As soon as they brought the horses and I got on, I received no instruction whatsoever. Finally the same person that helped me get on showed me the basic steps, but he seemed annoyed while he was showing me. The "15 minute instruction" was more like 5 minutes. I was towards the back on the trail ride and it was very hard to hear what the guide was saying. I felt like there should have been two guides, one at the front and the other at the back. I felt like safety wasn't their top priority and they need to focus more on the initial teaching for first timers. read more

Visited Cypress Trails for the first time over President's Day Weekend. My fiance and I were thoroughly impressed! Family members bought a Groupon for trail riding at the ranch, once before. They suggested we visit for a fun day out. The staff were very friendly and the horses well-trained. We waited about 20-30 minutes to get started but passed the time taking selfies with silly helmet covers, petting the ranch dogs and getting tips on riding from Presley. As this was one of the few times I've been horse-back riding (first on trails!) I was a bit nervous. I didn't really know what to expect. I watched others getting on and off horses closely. I made sure I paid close attention to the brief instructions the guides gave on handling the reigns.I really could have used more help on how to start, stop and steer the horse. I felt extremely lucky that my horse was calm, collected and fell in line with others. You're a good horse, Cytron! Parking is available on site. There is (1) portable restroom. Complimentary water bottles and helmets available. I recommend calling in advance to book start time. Trail rides take about 1.5 hours start to finish. read more

We had a party of two, myself and a child. I was on peaches and she was on glory (the oldest horse in the facility from what we were told). Both horses were a dream. Peaches was always well behaved and listened to all of the commands and turns I took. Towards the end she started to get antsy, but that's expected when riding for 2 hours straight with no water break. Glory was the perfect child horse. Very well behaved, took the trails like a champ, and was in amazing shape! The water in the river was too high so we had to take the same trails a few times but overall, it was a great experience! Staff was very helpful and personable. I do have maybe one-two "negative" things to say, but I feel it's constructive criticism: after every one is paired with their horse, the wranglers give instructions on how to handle the horse and give it commands; I would suggest to have everyone show you they where listening and able to control the horse before going on the trail. Some people just don't and didn't listen to simple instructions... But if it were not for the quick actions of the wranglers some people would've been out of the trail ride within 10 minutes.
