Nakatosh Campgrounds - Miss Amy views guests as a single adversarial entity with which she is locked in solitary battle. She should be answering phones at a megach

I once had a bad experience with a nest of fire ants, but, after my experience at the Nakatosh RV…read morePark, I now look back at the fire ants with fond nostalgia. Because, Oh. My. God. I had a tire blow out coming through Natchitoches, Louisiana, so I pulled into a truck stop at the Hwy 6 exit off I-49. It turned out, I would need two new tires and the jack I had with me wasn't the right one for this vehicle, so, with everything, I didn't have enough money to get going again. I could get the money, but I had to have someone FedEx it to me (long story) and it was going to take a day for the money to get there. But, this RV Park is directly behind the truck stop (stroke of luck), so I drove back there on my wheel and pulled into the first spot. It was Saturday, and there is no one who works there on Saturday and Sunday, but they have little envelopes you can put your payment in, so, I figured with the tracking number from Fedex in my hand, on Monday, I would be able to get them to wait until the payment arrived. Which Miss Amy, the sole employee for this place, agreed to. Then there was a bad cold snap and an ice storm, and, somehow it took FedEx six days to deliver the envelope. But I gave the tracking number to them (the truck stop is owned by the same people, Lott Oil) so they could see I wasn't lying. The envelope WAS on the way! Anyway, I didn't even hook up to the water and sewer so as to minimize the services I was consuming, but I did need to use the electricity so my 14-year-old dog and I could stay warm; the temperatures dipped way below freezing night after night. But the electrical outlet at the slot I pulled into didn't work, and I couldn't change spots because, by that time, my wheel was completely removed thanks to some guys staying there who had the appropriate jack (btw, the GUESTS there were completely awesome). Anyway, I had to run a 110v extension cord over to the empty slot next to me, which meant the only heat I had was this little, completely inadequate electric space heater. My dog and I nearly froze to death. Miserable, sleepless nights. But Miss Amy, even though she could see the payment was delayed through no fault of my own, and even though she could see I didn't even have access to the full services, she's charging me full price for every day I sat there, freezing and immobilized. OK. Shitty, but whatever. There are shitty people in the world, so deal. But it gets much, much worse. On the Monday, when Miss Amy returned to work, she agreed to wait for the FedEx delivery and, as she's making copies of my driver's license and demanding a photo of my license plate, she's telling me that the showers are going to be cold because "they" stole the heater and she wasn't buying another. And there wasn't any toilet paper in the bathroom, she said, because "they" stole the toilet paper and she wasn't going to replace it (there was also no soap in the soap dispenser, nor were there paper towels in the paper towel dispenser--isn't that a health hazard? Not clear whether "they" stole those, too). Anyway, the first time I walked into the bathroom/showers, I was appalled at the filth. Clearly, the toilet had overflowed and no one had bothered to clean up, because there was dried human feces encrusted all over the floor--isn't that a health hazard? (As I was told later by Miss Amy, "they" had put pens down the toilet and caused it to overflow.) In the showers, they had down those kind of mats you see in commercial kitchens--the kind you haul out every night and wash and sanitize. I doubt these things had ever been cleaned. The holes were filled with solid muck. Nasty af. But the shower doesn't work in my RV, so I put on sandals and showered there in the muck--isn't that a health hazard? Yuck. Anyway, when the Fedex arrived, Miss Amy was away, so the people from Lott Oil Truck Stop took my money, As I said, they were charging me full price at the daily rate, so the total came to nearly the amount they had posted for the monthly rate. So, I said I would just take the monthly rate, which they did. Anyway, then the toilet overflowed again, apparently, and so she just closed all the bathrooms, mens and womens and showers, too. She put a sign: Keep out until further notice. So I went to her office and asked her when they were going to reopen. She said they were going to reopen once they found out who was stealing the toilet paper. They were reviewing video. I'm not even kidding. I assume you are offering us a discount, then, I said, since you do advertise that you have bathroom and shower facilities. No, she answered. Then I want to leave, I said, and I want the money returned pro-rated at the monthly rate. No, she said, you will be charged at the daily rate. When I objected, she slammed the door in my face. This morning, two Lott employees came with the money at the monthly rate and the cops and told me to go. Unbelievable.

There were other open sights but this is where they put us. The 50 amp service we needed had a bad leg and only half worked. So half my camper did not have electric. They had no maintenance people on site and did not call anyone during our entire stay. Luckily we did not need the a/c and I was able to get by with a 30 amp service. The 3 AM dumpster emptying at the truck stop was a really nice alarm clock!! Unless you sleep like the dead there is no way you can get a full night sleep without being woken up from the loud trucks. Icing on the cake was when we left and stopped by their restrooms to wash our hands and use the restroom one last time. The cap was off the sewer so the sewer was flowing out onto the parking lot and across the truck stop parking lot. Just went on down the road since I didn't want to dodge toilet paper and human crap all over the place. Cheap place to stay and it shows. If you are passing through and only staying one night maybe but I will not be back.

They were hit by a tornado. last year that did quite a bit of damage. i was in the area for work and my dad asked me to go by and take a look so we could book a spot for our campers for a couple of week. I was so disappointed. I called my dad and sent some pictures. he couldn't believe it. little work had been done to restore the park. They did rebuild the fish cleaning house. they had a new fishing pier being built. nothing like before. we would take our party barge and take mom and dad out for boat rides and fishing. the new pier doesn't have boat slips like the old one so they aren't able to get on and off the boat and unloading it every time is a headache. The old pier they would take their lawn chairs and cooler sit on the pier and fish and visit with the locals and other fishermen. there is no way that can happen now. the pier has a fence around it that is to tall to sit in a chair and fish. I drove around the park looking for a good spot for the rv and there were very few as not all the waterfront lots have been releveled.. our new rv has 3 slide outs and most of the spaces are to small. the park up keep has declined. trash bin areas are falling apart and only saw about 2 picnic tables that look sturdy enough to hold all 4 of us. the roads in the park need graded and new gravel. I went in the store to get a burger before I headed back. i asked about the rebuilding. i was told they didn't have any insurance on the park and no money to get thing all done. i was told by a gentleman in the store that people donated quite a bit of money to help them out. that some fisherman donated counters for the fish house. i follow them on face book and saw where they had been in business for over years and was looking forward to 50+ more. i personally don't see that happening if they don't invest back into the park. If i had donated money to help rebuild the park back to what people loved and appreciated enough to donate to it i would highly disappointed. it is a shame we won't be spending our 2 weeks there this year. this is so sad to see....
