They were also knowledgeable about the different type of features we could purchase for our glasses, I appreciated how truthful they were and since my prescription is not that high, the clerk wasn't trying to upsell me to choose every single add-on. My husband's glasses took the estimated 2 weeks, however my glasses took 4 weeks, when we came in to pick up my husband's glasses we asked for an update and they said that the storm was delaying my glasses. When I finally got to pick up my glasses, the staff were kind to help me tighten the frames and even said that if they loosen over time that I could come back. Would recommend this place.

The main reason I went for the eye exam is because my vision had been getting more and more blurry, particularly noticeable while driving pre-dawn and after sunset. It's not fun hearing you need glasses (first timer, here) and just thinking about going anywhere to drop off my prescription and having to pick out frames had me unnerved. My housemate suggested Goleta Valley Optical, and then said, "They have a place right across from Trader Joe's on De La Vina." Super convenient location for me, so that was the first major plus. Easily found parking on the street (didn't know they have parking in back) and when I walked into the business, I was pleasantly surprised at how beautifully lit, clean and open the place was. Lucky me (another big plus), I was waited on by one of the owners. A family business, and local, as it turns out. Another nice thing to discover. "Jacob" was tremendously patient with me, answering all of my questions. We had a most engaging back and forth, talking about our hometown of Santa Barbara. What a lovely person he is. No wonder business is thriving. (They also have a location at Turnpike and Hollister, I found out.) Jacob helped me find just the right frames, too. Everything he said and did made me feel much less stressed about my eyes and having to get glasses. I came here to write this review because I think more people should know about GV Optical and how well one is treated. It seems a rare thing, of late, to find such terrific and friendly service. Unlike some other sunglass huts, as well as other sunglass stores, they don't offer you a basket or a tray to put the ones you may be considering I had questions about the chromatic polarized versus polarized and impact on car head up display. Erik did not know what I was talking about which is OK. I explained it a few times and he seemed a little annoyed, so I got it out onto the phone to make sure I was describing it clearly. I think Corporate should do a better job of empowering and informing their managers. It's important that when you're selling sunglasses that are polarized that will make heads up display on cars not work that they know about that and at least are familiar with that concept. I felt like I had to convince him that this was really a thing! When I asked if he could get more information about this because perhaps their new technology that they are pushing with the chromatic might somehow address this issue. I have no idea and it's a good question Again he said he didn't know and all he would do is call another manager who probably wouldn't know. I was surprised because I thought that he could get a hold of Corporate to get more information and technical support about the products being offered I felt like he was annoyed with the questions. It was a very disappointing experience. I don't think I'll ever go back to the sunglass hut.

The reason for the four stars instead of five is that I was asked several times (by the staff and doctor) if I wanted glasses as well as contacts. I get an annual exam mainly due to needing more contact lens. I wear only one (mono vision) and have had the same RX for several years. It felt like they were just trying to sell me glasses, when I was very clear I didn't want them. I also don't know why I'm charged for a "contact fitting exam" (~$130 + my "regular eye exam") when I wear the same contact year after year. Luckily, I have VSP and it covers this, but it seems unnecessary to do this unless I'm having problems with my contacts. They did give me samples of my contact lenses since I was leaving on vacation and was running out.
