This was the worst optometry practice I've ever visited, and I've been to many. The exam itself was fine, but when it was finished, I had to wait a long time just to get my prescription. The front office told me my chart wasn't closed and asked me to leave, saying they would email the prescription. I never received it. I had to call several times after the holiday before it was finally sent. I've never had an experience like that anywhere else. read more

Dr. Tiffany Corby's expert care today during my eye exam was exemplary. The staff at Eye & Vision Care (EVC) were friendly and helpful, from the receptionist checking me in to the technician who assisted with my initial screenings (pressing the button when lines flashed during the visual field test was kinda fun!) Eye exams can be uncomfortable, especially the strange "tickle" of the pressure test and the stress of reading increasingly tiny letters during the acuity test. The clean and stylish surroundings and positive attitudes helped the whole thing go smoothly, and that was before I even stepped into Dr. Corby's office. As soon as she entered, I felt at ease. She has a genial manner blending warmth and professionalism. We joked a bit as we moved through different assessments, and then it came time to do the drop-induced dilation. While EVC offers a photograph option for an additional $25 to avoid the use of dilation (which can last 4-6 hours), I had not chosen this procedure because I only wanted to cover my $10 copay. But before administering the drops, I was able to opt out of dilation given the size of my pupils. Instead, Dr. Corby conducted an exam with a bright light and well-practiced hand movements, directing where I looked so she could see the back of my eye from all angles. With a clear bill of optical health, I thanked Dr. Corby for her expert care and headed back to the front desk. Checking out, I saw that the bill came to $158 for the comprehensive intake exam and $60 for refraction testing. Fortunately, my insurance covered $208 of that $218 total. Phew! Very glad to have had these tests underwritten, and equally glad to have had them administered by the experts at EVC! read more

Dr Luke is my hero. As I've grow older, I've seem to grow complacent with this aging process of mine. I began to assume that my softening vision, as if looking through a Vaseline glazed window, is just another aspect of age. Well, Dr Luke corrected this misbegotten thought train recently. Through a series of optic testing, persistent Q&A regarding adjustment of lens options to optimize my current sight needs, I walked out of Eye & Vision Care a new man! I cannot say enough good things about this establishment. I had a scary eye situation pop up at 1 pm on a Friday, during this COVID Pandemic and my regular Doctor doesn't work Fridays. I called Eye & Vision Care on my hubby's recommendation and they fit me in right away! They were able to assess my condition and refer me to California Retina Consultants all before 4 pm and got me in for emergency laser surgery to repair a torn retina. I needed to choose frames and contacts with two different insurances, the employees were super helpful and broke down the benefits of each plan and which plan would be best to use for either contacts or frames. I didn't get the name of the employee that helped me go over all my benefits and frame costs, but they were wearing a necklace with the name "Mia" on it I believe, so thank you to that person! Whenever I have to buy new glasses, I always leave feeling confused, unsatisfied with how much I spent, and almost taken advantage of because I feel like I'm not always made aware of every fee, but this employee made sure I was aware of everything, before and after insurance, BEFORE I paid and I couldn't be more grateful the transparency. I had a " vision emergency " called here not having been a patient before and they got me in right away! The staff from front desk to Tec's were amazing. The doctor took his time in his assessment even though I didn't have an appointment on was never rushed or hurried. Cost is equal other's in town for similar service. I had a regular check up appointment with Dr Luke. During the appointment, he mentioned he would be able to fit me with different contact lenses that would work better for an extra 250 dollars refitting fee and 250 for the new different lenses. When I got the call the come pick up the lenses, I double checked and it turned out it was exactly the same type of lens I was wearing before. I thought it was a mistake so I asked them to double check. They said that the doctor did that on purpose supposedly because my other lenses were old. Why charge me 250 dollars for refitting if all he's doing is ordering the exact same lenses? This seems to me extremely suspicious. I would strongly urge you to STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. I am never returning here. read more

I found myself once again at Eye and Vision care in Goleta. Another unexpected eye infection of some sort. I was not seeing my regular eye doctor today but another Dr, Dr. Woods. Dr. Woods was incredible!! I was so frustrated because this was the third eye doctor I had been to for help with this eye problem. She took so many tests, asked my a million very specific questions and was down right determined to help me!! She was not a bored robot but a very gifted obstetrician. I went in yesterday to purchase a new case for my glasses and a pair of nose pads. Thought I'd be in and out and attach the pads myself. Nope. First, Stephanie greets me as I walk in: sweet and professional. She asks what I'm there for. When she leaves, I'm thinking she's getting my items. Instead she introduces me to a glasses specialist, Marcel, who has my case then proceeds to look at my glasses. "You've got the Oakley air-infused pads. I'm not sure I have those in stock. If not, are you okay with the universal pads." "Of course." Marcel disappears with my glasses and returns with the new pads attached. Then, he notices my glasses don't look even/balanced. So, he disappears again and returns with them much better. I put them on and he's still not pleased. Disappears his final time and returns with the glasses perfectly balanced and proceeds to clean them to new-eyewear shine. The customer service was far more than I had anticipated and I walked out only ten dollars poorer, but a case and two pads richer! read more

It was my first eye appointment in a looonng time and i was excited to go get checked. I arrived for my appointment and waited a couple minutes. Then the optometrist technician Patricia checked my eyes with some thing, she was accommodating and super cool. Dr Dawn Woods then used some other things to check my vision and the dryness of my eyes (they had been red and felt very dry for a couple weeks). She was knowledgeable and so sweet. Eye & Vision Care I've had nothing but positive experiences at Eye & Vision Care. The premises are clean and tasteful, and their technology state of the art. They are open on Saturday which is helpful when I need to drop off or pick up glasses. The front desk staff and technicians are always efficient, professional, and friendly. Dr. Langsford is outstanding. Not just how thoroughly he conducts an exam, but also how well he explains things. In my case how cataracts that don't affect my day vision, do adversely affect my ability to drive at night. I'm finally writing a review today because Adrianne, one of the opticians, went above and beyond for me. My prescription distance glasses with transition lenses (in other words...expensive) had the temple piece broken off when my friend backed her car over my glasses case. It was miraculous my glasses weren't pulverized, and I didn't think the glasses could be repaired. But Adrianne had an idea. She said it might not work, explained the risk, then asked if I wanted her to try. I absolutely did, because each set of glasses has unique temple pieces which would take time and expense to find and buy. Adrianne used adhesive to mend the crack in the temple piece, removed the bit of the screw that had broken off in hinge, and bent the hinge back to the correct angle. The result was that I walked out with glasses that were like new again, and at no cost. I am so grateful for Adrianne's knowledge, resourcefulness and talent. She told me that she enjoyed learning something new every day and welcomed these sorts of opportunities. What a wonderful attitude towards life, as well as customer support. No company is any better than the people it hires, and Eye & Vision Care truly seems understand this. Kudos! read more

There is a very good reason why I have been a patient at this facility for more than a decade: they deliver on all fronts with courtesy and kindness. From first interaction with the front desk to delivery and adjustment of new spectacles, everything has always been efficient and smooth. Stephanie at the front desk is extremely sweet and helpful and recently squeezed me in for a last minute appointment on a cancellation. Then, when further assessment by a retinal specialist was deemed necessary, she placed the call herself to make the initial contact for me. There is almost no wait before the battery of tests is initiated and conducted by the team before I meet with Dr Nomura, who has always made a thorough examination with ample explanation of what he is observing. As for Ishmael in the optometry department (affectionately known as 'Ish'): the man has a unique gift for adjusting frames so that they fit perfectly and comfortably. On more than one occasion, I have driven over 1300 miles just to have him adjust my glasses. I'd rather have my glasses sit crooked for a while than let anyone else adjust them. read more

The service here really sucks. I ordered contacts on a Wednesday and they told me it takes 3-5 business days to arrive. So I called on a Monday and they told me they hadn't arrived yet and that they normally get shipments around 11 AM which it was already past that time. I called on Tuesday and the person said that they still hadn't arrived but said they would call the lab the next day and then give me a call to find out what's going on. Wednesday comes around and it's 5:50 PM and I did not receive a call from them so I called them. Guess what? They haven't arrived and the lab wasn't even called... If I hadn't already paid for them I would tell them to cancel it and I'd go to Costco instead. read more

I really do love this place, I have been going there for a while now, but after seeing Dr. Werkhoven I had to write a review. I took my daughter in for an exam and he was extremely unprofessional. He never looked me in the eye to talk to me and when my daughter was getting her exam he clearly didn't believe her, which made me upset. The exam took twice as long as it should have and I kept asking why it was taking so long. He just ignored me again. Just found him super inappropriate and in speaking with friends his demeanor was the same with them. I will continue to go here, just with another doctor (whom are all wonderful) read more

My first appointment was with Dawn and she was amazing. Treated me great and went over all of my options. Very thorough and helpful. They also were able to special order my frames that i wanted. Although when i was unable to come in and pay for them due to my father being very ill and i having to leave town for the week. They began to be rude and inconsistent. I called and explained that I was unable to come in and pay for my frames until the following week. Then.. they called again while i was helping my sick father and left two unprofessional messages on my voicemail, that they were returning my frames, if i didn't come in that day to pay. I had to call back and talk to 3 people and explain that i already arranged a later date to come in. I called and just paid for the frames over the phone so they would stop calling me while i was dealing with my job and sick father...i waited on hold for 15 minutes and 2 different people kept answering the phone and asking me the same question. Finally i paid for the frames and explained to the man how i was dealing with an emergency with family and was very upset on how i was being treated. He never once was empathetic and just told me if i didn't come in next week to order the lenses that they would dismiss my order. He said people do this all the time, which was rude to assume i was one of them after paying on the phone to accomodate the company. Never once did they take time to understand my concerns and interrupted me. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE and felt like I was dealing with a bad car sales man. Will be buying my lenses and moving to another eye exam location for any future purchases. I will also be spreading the negativity to my large and broad UCSB colleagues. read more

My physical appointment was great - thanks Mr Kleen. Professional and kind. The people who in the sales dept. for glasses are beyond pushy and when asking to cover the minimum aka what my insurance covered, they would not take off the perks of non glare and anti breakage! So much so that I paid and then felt like I was screwed so I went back inside, and felt so inferior and bullied(the woman made me feel stupid for not wanting these perks and if I "valued my eyes" I would get $100 extra worth of work). I then was too nervous to talk to the woman again because of her demeanor so I had to call in to physically cancel the order. Fine. Then I go to LensCrafters where I am trying to buy glasses at a fair price, when Eye Vision Care won't release my insurance to use at the location! I called and the front desk said she couldn't promise anything. Was kept waiting for 2 hours by LensCrafters to see if it would be dropped and then finally was told to return tomorrow to resolve the issue. Seems like if it's not their way then you're wrong, and try to keep you from buying other places. read more

My husband Hal and I have been seeing Dr. Luke at Eye & Vision Care since 2007. We are very happy with Dr. Luke and the rest of the staff. This is a great place for contacts, glasses, subscription sunglasses and general eye care. It is also a wonderful place for people with special needs. Their Monday through Saturday hours are very accommodating. They accept most eye and medical insurance. The office has very up to date examination apparatus that make exams comfortable, thorough, relatively fast, and accurate. The selection of eyeglass frames and options is very comprehensive. Hal was diagnosed with Lou Gerhig's disease four years ago. For the past two years, since Hal has been very impacted by his Lou Gerhig's, Dr. Luke has made house visits, bringing his equipment to Hal. His empathy and expertise have really helped Hal with any vision issues at a time where vision is one of Hal's few remaining ways to interact with the world. Hal and I feel very fortunate to have found this level of caring in today's busy world. read more

Super frustrating experience. I ordered a pair of sunglass lenses back in 2015. It took THREE tries and a couple of months to get them right. The lenses kept failing inspection. Instead of an apology for the delay, I was told I had a "challenging prescription and this happens a lot with your type of correction." So, fast-forward to July 2018... I returned for a pair of eyeglasses. The optometrist, Taka Nomura, was very thorough and answered the quick questions I had, but the appointment did take two hours... seemed a bit lengthy compared to the many other eye exams I've had. But hey, no worries, and I'm told my glasses will be ready in two weeks. Two weeks pass and I get a call saying my lenses did not pass inspection (hmmmm sunglasses de ja vu?) and it would be a couple more weeks to re-make the lenses. Two more weeks pass and I get a text message saying my glasses are in. I immediately go to the office and check in. Then I wait. And wait. AND WAIT. Finally, after more than one-half hour of listening to the four receptionists yuck it up, I ask what's up. "Oh, weren't you told we're short staffed?" was the reply. No, I wasn't told, and by the way, where is the "SORRY" in that response, I wondered. I opted to leave and come back. I return a couple of days later and finally get my new glasses.... with the nice, new scratch on one of the nice, new lenses. Ummmm, quality control, anyone? So, I'm told it would be two MORE weeks because the glasses had to be sent back to LA. (Really, no rush on my order, I just go to the back of the line, so to speak)? Well, a week passes and I get a text message saying my glasses are ready. I drive in for the THIRD TIME and I check in. After a lengthy wait, I was told that, no, my order was not ready, and no one there could figure out why I was sent a text message saying my glasses were ready. Um, HUN? So, I ask to speak to a manager, and I'm told that person is busy. So, I leave. Next day, I'm told the glasses are, indeed, ready and I return to pick them. Marcello was prompt and courteous and the glasses are fine. He promises me partial compensation for all the hassle, but it does take one month and another phone call to get it. read more

The front desk staff is very cordial and helpful, and someone is always quick to make sure you are helped. I've forgotten the name of the young lady who did my initial tests, but she was very professional and friendly. My last exam was with Dr. Langsford; I liked him so much I took my 87 year old mother to see him as well. In both cases, he was very patient and really took time both to examine our eyes and explain what he was seeing and answer our questions. It was educational and interesting, and we felt like he really cared about what he was doing. When I went to select new glasses, Marcelo in the Optometry department was super helpful in asking questions about what I wanted and selecting options for me to choose from (I was overwhelmed by their selection). I felt he really helped me select the best glasses for my needs as opposed to trying to up-sell me. I love my new glasses and really enjoyed my experiences here! Would not go anywhere else. They weren't able to rotate the lens on it (something they usually do?) so they didn't charge me for the repair (thank you!).
