Dwight, one of the owners, texted me the next morning saying they had a missed call from my number and asked what they could help me with.

In June, 2022, when she was out of town, I stopped by HotWorx West Omaha (192nd & Pacific) since it was close to work. I was intrigued by the short classes as it had been a while since I had been to an exercise class. I started out with a cardio class (start every 15 minutes) and I was hooked. I always have loved the heat (am a huge fan of Bikram yoga), so to be able to exercise in a sauna was/is great for me. Now to inform my co worker. On her first day back, I had gone to a class over lunch, and when I came back, she noticed I had taken a shower and that my face was kind of red. Her question was... did you go work out, to which I responded - YEP!! She went the next day with me and we have been going ever since. She is more of an all cardio person, whereas I like to mix it up! It also helps that the studio has challenges which "make" us do certain classes in order to get points. Leanna, the manager, is so friendly and so helpful! I am so glad I stopped in to try it as now it has become a habit! Love it!!

I chose to go with the spin bikes. The staffers are not trained to answer questions regarding Exercise Science and go by a memorized script. The class is only 13 minutes long and I just assumed from Saturday's tour they were 30 minutes. There are no adequate spaces to hang up jackets per space, cubby boxes are not large enough to fit thick jackets. There are only 2 restrooms and no locker room space to change clothes. The video workout did not provide adequate instruction for various fitness levels or proper encouragement in my opinion. There was no warm up period when the bike ride instruction started. The first thing the video instructor wanted you to do was to place a large resistance on the bike, get up off the bike seat and start pedaling hard. When I asked the staff member about this, she repeated what was told to her that a warm up is unnecessary since the room is 130 degrees which is supposed to instantly warm up your muscles. I let her know that's not what happens when describing human physiology. The superficial blood vessels dilate, bringing blood to your skin and not to the gross skeletal muscles such as the glutes and quads that require this valuable blood to help ride up these hills. I think I caught her off-guard and she realized I wasn't going to sign up for a membership. Dry heat exercise can be helpful if you take special precautions such as warming up before your session. Static stretching is not a warm up. I would suggest going to the free weight area and performing lunges or body squats 5 minutes before your activity. Also, hyper hydrate with only cold water and drink cold water during your 13 minute session, regardless of what the staff members or video instructors tell you when to drink. I wish the video instructors would be certified by The American College of Sports Medicine which would greatly provide instant credibility especially when dealing with many clients of all fitness levels and any medical predisposition. Lastly, the video should always provide the opportunity to stop or slow down if experiencing specific symptoms during your activity.

Unfortunately, my experience changed due to a situation involving a spin instructor that deeply impacted my personal life. This situation made the gym feel uncomfortable and no longer like the safe space it once was for me and my family. What has been most disappointing is how everything was handled. I did not feel that my concerns were taken seriously, and ultimately I was the one who had to leave and cancel my membership after many years. I understand that personal situations can be complex, but when they affect members' comfort and trust, I believe they should be handled with greater care and accountability. Because of this experience, I would encourage others to carefully consider what kind of environment they're looking for when choosing a gym.

One of my favorite things is that they allow you to use the workout classroom when classes aren't in session. I don't always feel comfortable working out around others and having that space has been a game-changer for me. The staff has always been super friendly and helpful whenever I've needed anything. The only small feedback I have is that a few of the color plastic weights could use an upgrade as they're a bit worn but that hasn't taken away from my overall experience. When I asked why they don't take phone calls or email like many other gyms they just said it was in my contract and gave no other reason. The instructors are all very positive and encouraging and that helped me early on when I was very out of shape and was scared of being judged in the gym. CKO is a welcoming environment, regardless on whether you are already shredded or just beginning your athletic journey. If you are worried of being judged, I will squash that fear. DONT BE! The instructors and other boxers are all incredibly friendly and encouraging. I have not met an unfriendly person here. The classes themselves are a hour long and include primarily kickboxing, as well as ab workouts and other exercises depending on the day. On Wednesdays and Fridays, half of the class is spent doing strength training with weights and the TRX. All of these extra exercises are to improve your kickboxing. Whatever the activity, they are clear with instructions and if you are unsure of what you should be doing, the instructors are always happy to help. If you need to take a break, you arent judged and can jump back in when you are ready. I really like that CKO encrouages me not only to maintain, but improve. Natalia, Lornell, and the other instructors all push you to your limits and encourage you not to give up and to keep it going.
