The shop itself is fascinating, with an interesting array of nostalgic and modern bikes and gear. I always feel better after going into this store. New owner, new look - spectacular service! I walked in with a broken spoke and Keith promptly checked it out and clearly identified options, implications, and prices. He was supportive and did an EXCELLENT job rebuilding my wheel. He communicated as he encountered other challenges (ie, shift cable was frayed) and was clear on pricing updates. I received the final cost via text with a notification the repair was complete. Overall, this was an AWESOME experience. The employees are all respectful and very knowledgeable, and everything is reasonably priced from clothing, accessories, and bike maintenance. Work is good and timely. I am irritated about being lectured by the older gentleman (owner) about the evils of buying bikes at Walmart. Happened twice now when I brought the bike in for minor repairs. I have bought several bikes over the years, for various family members and had minimal issues. Savings were worth it. This gentle literally acts like Walmart bikes are a death trap. "You need to be very careful with this bike. You bought it at Walmart." If there is an issue that needs fixing then tell me, so I can get it fixed, but quit talking to me like you are scolding a child. Think I will use Sunflower in the future. read more

Extremely rude customer service I would not recommend them at all I sent my bicycle there to have the crank fixed my mom took it they ended up talking her into spending $80 on a repair that should have only cost $5 or $10 because it only needed a simple Bolt then the owner Gary decides to hang up the phone on me the owner of the bicycle when I am calling to inquire about it and then when I called back to let them know that I would be giving him a bad review and to explain to them that I am the owner of the bicycle and that they should not hang up the phone on me they told me to shut up and hung up on me again so no I do not recommend this place to anybody they are very rude read more

great service. nice people. nice store. this bike store blows sunflower downtown out of the water. yes, it's located in the middle of nowhere next to a hyvee on kasold, but there is a kickass bike path a block away. don't let the location scare you. the people in the store and the interesting inventory make this bike shop the best place to buy a new bike in town. the owner also collects very interesting vintage bike which are on display all over the interesting, newer retail space. prices aren't cheap but you get what you pay for... service is awesome. bring in your bike with any problem (doesn't have to be bought here) and they will try to help you fix it. they are honest and don't overcharge like sunflower. they do what needs to be done and will often fix small things very quickly. read more

As a person who has been going to Sunflower Outdoor & Bike for years, I have to tell the world about the difference between Sunflower and Cycle Works. I've been to Cycle Works 3 times-- every time, it's a highly satisfactory experience. It looks like I had NO IDEA what kind of FANTASTIC customer service I was missing out on by going to Sunflower.... I mean, don't get me wrong-- Sunflower has never wronged me per se, but suffice it to say that the folks there simply pale in comparison to Cycle Works customer service. The instant I walked into Cycle Works I was fully interviewed by the very caring owner about my bicycle issues. He was extremely thorough in resolving my concerns, extremely friendly and sharing in his knowledge of bikes. Also, when I told him I'm on a budget (bikes are so expensive!) he expressed understanding and was willing to work with me so I don't go broke trying to spruce up my bike. Once, at Sunflower, I tried this and I was told that that's the way things are and if I don't want the expensive part then I just don't have to get it. No discussion. From now on, I intend to ride extra across town and give my business to the more competitive cycling store. They definitely deserve it. Their bikes range in price from inexpensive to Rolls Royce, but you're guaranteed to find something right for you. read more

All of the employees I have dealt with are very knowledgeable and friendly and willing to help select a product that fits your price needs. The service and repair section is the best in town. I have made some unusual requests and they have completed the work within the time specificied and the work was first rate. The shop is filled with new bicycles and displays of vintage bicycles making shopping a pleasant experience. I travel from out of town to give this shop my business because it is the best in the area I have found. read more

Great service and great attitudes. Every time I go in to Cycle Works, I'm always greeted by someone who really knows what they are talking about. The only time I ever had a problem with their work, they stood by their promise to keep at it until I was completely satisfied-no questions asked. Austin, one of their bike mechanics, is courteous, knowledgeable, and will never talk down to you (unlike some mechanics at some other bike shops.) I don't understand how this bike shop is still in business. I had horrible customer experience. When I entered the shop the woman at the counter seemed irritated that I was even there. I explained that I was having trouble keeping air in my tires and wanted to get them checked out. She called to her dad to help. He came over and immediately sighed. He did not greet my or explain what he was doing as he took my bike to the back. While airing up my tires he explained how I was inept at airing up my tires and it's natural for them to lose air over time. I tried to explain that my bike would lose air immediately after I finished filling it up and thought my tubes might need to be replaced. He treated me like an idiot and continued to explain that I didn't know what I was doing. Without even testing the tires he just gave me my bike back and sent me on my way. I may not be a pro-cyclist but I do not appreciate being disrespected by someone who is supposed to help me. He treated me like I was just some dumb woman who needed to get out of his shop. I will happily take my business to Sunflower next time. read more

Inexpensive. Great customer service. I brought in 2 older bikes for tune ups. The older gentleman (owner?) who helped us was very good at explaining what work the bike's needed and costs for different options. I left the store with great confidence that they would do a good job. But the work on the bike's was not as good as the customer service. First, I had agreed on a quick release alloy wheel to replace the old wheel and without informing me, they switched in a steel wheel. Also, after the tune up, the front derailleur would not shift into low gear and the bike squeaked loudly. So, I took it back. They agreed to replace the steel wheel with an alloy wheel and they addressed the front shifter issue, but when I got it back the rear derailleur was way out of adjustment. read more

I come in with odd requests sometimes (rebuild a vintage kickback hub, cut custom spokes for a 28"/40 hole rim, etc) and they get things done right every single time. a couple weeks ago my boyfriend brought his bike in for basically just routine maintenance. they told him they were really busy so it would be about a week before it would be done. so two weeks later my bf calls to get the status on his bike & they say it's done, come get it. after getting his bike he notices that a part was missing (a coupler for attaching a kids bike trailer), so he called & they said they had it but when he went there they did not have it. blah blah blah.. turns out they hire kids &/or young college students to come in and work on bikes for an hour or two a couple days a week, which makes it difficult to know who worked on any particular bike because evidentially that sort of information is not documented. anyway, they offered no solution or compensation for losing the part, which is kind of shitty. my bf is going to see if he can buy a replacement at Walmart & try bringing them the receipt & maybe they will offer to reimburse. neither of us expects them to tho. the part only costs maybe $10, but it's the principal of it. read more
