I thought I had been a good loyal customer, I brought my HD to this business for oil changes and tune ups for a few years. I've referred other riders For services also. I rode my bike into this business one day for an oil change and to do a service. my HD has always ran very well, I've always taken very good care of it. . I had a nice ride to Big Sur a couple of days earlier. It ran very well . A couple days later when I pulled up to a light, all of a sudden, it started cutting out A bit. I rode my HD to this motorcycle repair business, little did I know I would never get to ride it again. The worse thing I ever did was take it to Cycle Imagery. I knew something was wrong when the guard lady on the phone said my bike wouldn't be ready. Joe wasn't sure what was wrong with it. She seemed very guarded. After 4 days I called again. I could tell she was lying and trying to hide something . Weeks went by, no communication. Joe kept it for over 6 weeks, never called or tried to explain, always having the lady say he wasn't sure. I would stop by and he would avoid me. It was all very strange. I could tell something was wrong and they were hiding something. Then he called for me to take it somewhere else . After he just let it sit and rust away for a couple of months Out back in the shed shop. Said he couldn't fix it. It should be taken to a HD dealer. No real explanation of why. He even charged me over $1500 to destroy it. I had it towed to a San Jose HD mechanic who called me right away to tell me my gas tank was broken and leaking gas and he couldn't work on it. He could probably fix the bike but now it was to dangerous To work on. He said someone tried to repair it with failed JB Weld. ( wow!) He couldn't believe I was charged over a thousand dollars and my bike was destroyed. And I wasn't even told anything. Joe at Cycle Imagery didn't want to fix it because it has a custom paint job on the gas tank. He should have replaced the tank and matched the paint at least. Now it can't be ridden at all. Its to dangerous! Absolutely no communication or explanation, just a coverup full of lies! So Joe broke my bike and then tried to cover it up. Tried to hide it with JB Weld. He is a Very dishonest person To do that. He wouldn't take the blame and fix what damage he had done. Or pay to have it fixed. So now my bike just sits and rots away in the garage because Joe Destroyed it, and tried to pretend he didn't know anything about it. Now I have no bike because of him . I will never do business with this dishonest rip off ever again and I advise everyone to never do any kind of business with Cycle Imagery Joe ever. He has his staff lie to cover up his BS. The only positive thing was I was able to cancel my credit card payment so my money wasn't stolen also. I would give 0 if I could. I took my Harley here for issue with my rear rotor in the past and they over charged me for the work, which come to find out today, was done with bolts HALF AN INCH TOO SHORT and NO thread lock. The front desk lady was SO rude to me on the phone today when I called about the same issue. She told me to "call back at noon to see what they've got". So I went to another shop in town who fixed it for a great price, day of with amazing customer service. When I picked up my bike from the other shop the owner let me know that whoever previously worked on it screwed me over. I had a broken piece of my clutch houseing when I took my bike in I was told the piece only came with clutch disks and all for about 600 dollars and there were some other small things to tackle well I left it to get fixed picked it up paid over 700 dollars couple of weeks later I had to do some work inside the primerary when I took it off to my surprise the broken piece was still there! I was jacked 600 dollars when I brought it up to the owners attention his response was he was able to make it work so he didn't do nothing to it not even take the clutch houseing apart he only tackled the small things but still over charged me 600 dollars he also said it took him lot more time to work on the small things bullshit never taking my bikes their again then I told my buddy who also said he is known for doing shit like that read more

I have a Harley Triglide. I needed a 10,000 mile service, It was recommended that I try Cycle Imagery in Santa Cruz. From the moment I walked in to that business, I felt the professionalism from Joe the owner. It was just total pleasure to get great service in a simple way, at a very reasonable cost. Compare this to Harley Davidson outlets, not only are they so far detached from reality in customer service. there cost to service my bike was about double. And I give this company the lowest rating because I understand what it means to have integrity, and an honest business that doesn't take advantage of a customer that isn't familiar with current prices but also. But on the other hand generally I'll give a business my blind trust that they'll do it charge me correctly. Kinda like a test. Im not gonna do this with something that'll run my pockets down. But,, my first experience was that I brought in a small 10" tire and tube. Asking if they could throw it together and fill it with air. Easy enough I thought. The guy asked if I could come back in about an hour. Which part of me thought cool he's gonna take care of today,, but I also thought if it actually takes him an hour to out that together than I better be careful on this tire.. cause that's like a 10-15 minute job. So I got back Ask Tim how much and he said $20 should cover it. OK, That's fair I thought, though definitely on the high end, I have definitely delt with mechanics Who may have just done that for free knowing that I will probably be a returning customer which always works. But charging $20 is for potentially the smallest job possible, is an indication Set a medium or large her job would most likely break the bank. So the next time I was there I was inside the shop looking to buy some mineral oil to break in a small four stroke pit bike. When the gentleman asked if I needed help which I didn't, but explain to them what I was doing anyway to be polite cause it seemed like he was watching me as if I shouldn't be in his store or like I was gonna try and steal something. As if I'm gonna try and lift a set oh handle bars or a quart of oil wearing shorts and a t-shirt. But after explaining what I was looking for which I was standing directly in front of the selection of Rock oil. He suggested I get the 10w-40 synthetic. I said actually I was looking for the nonsynthetic, mineral oil because that's what the manufacturer suggests.. and looking at me as if I didn't know my elbow from my ass shaking his head, he then began to explain how he knows the quality of synthetic and how it's superior to the non synthetic dinosaur juice. So against my better judgement I took his word for it. Partly cause I wasn't exactly sure why the manufacturer suggested mineral oil during the break in of the engine. But partly cause I wanted trust that the guy knows bikes and wouldn't misguide me. Wrong! I should have gotten mineral oil and 10w-30 because of the materials used in the engine as well as having a cylinder coated in steal and not higher quality newer type of coating the cylinders plated in. Apparently The synthetic oil and it's slippery properties create a coating that leaves the engine smoking much more than it should having never gotten the dinosaur juice costing as it should. Like all the other bike engines made in the 70s or before. But the kicker was that he charged me $20 for a quart of oil. Which not have anything to base it against I unknowingly paid. But went down the street near 41rst to another small bike shop off the beatin path but seemed to have a steady base of returning customers. And the same quart cost me only $8.50. which is very far from $20. So other than the high price for the tire and tube installation, it cost me an extra $12.50 to learn that if I can't trust this guy for intentionally cheating me over a quart of oil, than their no way I'd ever consider buying something of actual value, or trust a bike to be repaired within a fair price. Mechanics have always had a reputation that it's difficult finding one that's honest and won't try and over charge or over diagnose repairs. But I know there allot of honest mechanics who work with integrity. Doing the right thing when no one is looking. Because nowadays with this thing the inter-webz and all its information and communication the age of dishonest mechanics getting over on customers that voice, those days are gone. Long gone you can't even fart near my bike without everybody and their brother hearing about it. And then commenting about it. The negative reviews are all from people who are probably just picky yuppies.... I don't know how else to say it. The owner is a stand up guy that is fair with everything. Straight shooter, no BS. The owner saved my butt about two years ago when I had a primary gasket fail and started dumping oil everywhere. It was 20 mins after they closed on a Saturday when I called him and told him what happened. I was a few blocks away, he waited till we got there and changed the gasket and filled it back up with oil for less than 20$. Every since then I have told everyone about this place. This is my favorite motorcycle repair shop. Joe is very nice and knowledgeable about all the issues then provide good and honest solutions.

I have a 1999 Suzuki SV650 for reference here. I am not some middle-aged accountant riding around a luxury good for street cred with other chromed-out bearded men compensating for life issues. I know how to work on vehicles and have done several engine rebuilds and swaps. With the move to college, my new house unfortunately does not have a garage to work in and am stuck with mechanic hopping for anything outside of regular maintenance with hand tools. It's always a gamble-- sometimes rewarding, sometimes poor. My bike was having a ton of issues due to an absolutely moronic previous owner. Mileage was poor, bike felt anemic when accelerating, and I had a flat spot around 5k on acceleration which has me think that he attempted to rejet it and failed miserably, along with a multitude of other vacuum-related (and previous owner-induced) issues. I know how bulletproof these bikes can be and as such want to fix it up to become my daily rider. Upon dropping off the bike for a Dynojet tune and rejet, they asked if my bike had a power commander. "Uh, no. It's carbed." First thing that should have set off a warning for me. Whatever. Already booked the appointment four days in advance and I might as well take it in for an inspection. A day passes, and I get a call from the desk rep. "We got it on the stand, but we couldn't do anything for it. The mechanic says it is in bad shape." "Well, can I talk to the mechanic?" "He's pretty busy right now. You'll have to head down and talk in person." That's cool. It's not like I have a way to get there at the drop of a hat, being that it's my vehicle and all. I get it back the next day and Cycle Imagery says my bike's front cylinder wasn't drawing enough air with a vacuum test and concluded my rings were bad. Odd, because I'm pretty sure you need to do a compression test to determine that, and "sticking a screwdriver into the valve on the carb" fixing the problem means that it's a carb issue, not an engine one. Like I brought it in for in the first place. I explained that there is no way the engine can be bad because it has 6000 miles on it and the carbs have gone 46000 without any proper servicing or inspections. They gave me a vague "yeah I guess that makes sense" but then told me that it would be another $150 on top of the $90 to just look at the bike (without doing anything) just to remove the carbs, and the price on fixing the issues will go up from there. I bring my bike in to have it rejetted back to stock, get told the *vacuum* test they did on it showed that my piston rings were bad. Didn't even put the new jets and needles put in or bother calling while the bike was on the stand to explain the situation. I should have known better by the bikes surrounding the shop that I was gonna be walking into a joke. In the future, I'm sticking with Jim's Cycles, about a mile down the road. But hey, $90 is a cheap lesson to learn. UPDATE: I should also add they forgot to reinstall my seat hardware so now I'm forced to use zipties to hold my seat on until I get the parts. Oh, and took the bike to DJ Cycles. Turns out the "vacuum leak" was due to a mistightened clamp (now fixed) and with a proper rejetting the bike runs flawlessly and has no more issues. Did CI even do anything to the bike other than poke it with a screwdriver and lose my hardware? Who knows! read more

The guy that owns this shop,probably doesn't know what yelp is, their customer service is that bad. I am in my twenties and was looking for a street bike. I've done plenty of off road riding; so I feel bad for the guys that are new to riding and have some basic learning needed before buying a bike. First, if you are looking to start riding, go somewhere else, there are plenty of nice people out there that may cost a little more, (probably not because the prices on used bikes are high here), and that will want to make sure you get on a bike that is right for your needs. Second, if you own a motorcycle shop and sell used motorcycles you should be able to tell me why the motorcycle has scratches on it, looks like it has been laid down pretty hard and had some rebuild work. If you are answer is, "I don't know much about what happened to this bike, my boss knows everything but is out today", then at the least you should tell the customer when they can get details about the bike they are interested in. Safety for your customers should be your first priority, above making a sale. Third, you should have a priority to make a sale to customer. I came back a week later to see if I could get more details. If you light a cigarette when a customer asks to check out a bike, you're probably not going to lock in a deal and this probably means you don't get a real incentive ($) to sell bikes. I don't even mind the smell of cigarettes, but really dude?! I just met you literally 2 minutes ago and what's the point of buying a used bike from a shop if you don't know anything about the bikes? The rationale of the used bike being checked over by a mechanic goes out the window, when the customer can't even trust the clerk. The one plus, which I hate to give such a bad store a positive is that the gear in the store is probably the most you'll find in SC. which isn't hard with the limited amount of motorcycle stores in this town, and that said, this means you probably won't find what you're looking for. All in all, don't go here. I am a local and have been to better shops in SC. I won't name them but you'll find them if you browse yelp. Support local shops that you want to be around for your kids one day. read more

I called to schedule a tire change. Pretty much as simple as it gets as far as motorcycle shops go. The woman who answered the phone repeatedly cut me off during the 30 second phonecall. I maintained a polite patience but she kept cutting me off and seemed to have multiple reasons why she couldn't help me. Eventually, I said "Ok, thanks for your time." She hung up on me at "Ok". Of course, after reading the horror stories on Yelp just now, I feel like I dodged a bullet. I have an old bike that has run solid for 20 years. What an awful experience I had yesterday! I needed a 12 volt battery for a Honda. I first called a historically established auto parts store in Watsonville. As I was on hold while they looked up the specific model, I did an internet search and found a new one for $67 plus tax but I would have to pay shipping and it might not have arrived in time for my special event. The guy came back on the phone and quoted me $108. He suggested that I might find a better rate at a motorcycle shop but it was up to me. I then called CI and spoke with a guy who quoted me $77 for the same battery. I thought that's great! I can get it now, save money compared to the Watsonville location and I'm buying (fairly) locally. I told him to hold it on the counter and I'd pick it up in a little while. I live 45 minutes from the store's location. I began my trek to their location in Santa Cruz. As I arrived at CI, this is where the problems started....... As I walked in a VERY disgruntled customer was arguing with the two people behind the desk about a exchange (or credit). It was none of my business, so I just walked around the shop while they all tried to hammer out their differences. Not a pleasant vibe to be a part of! The customer made his way out of the store cussing and screaming at the staff. It was a very uncomfortable place to be at that time. I placed my old battery on the counter and we compared the measurements and connections, compared it to the new one. The grey haired woman (still shaken up by the prior customer) started to ring me up and said the battery cost was $130 plus tax. I explained that I was quoted by my phone contact said it should have been $77 and that I just drove 45 minutes to their store. She said that I was misquoted and the guy (who quoted me) hadn't come back from his lunch break in over two hours. I asked if she could make a concession for my troubles and she said no. I then went out to my car and called up the prior Watsonville dealer to see if they still had the same battery for the $108 price. They did! I went back into the shop and told the lady I would buy the battery from her at a reduced rate and she (again) said no. I stormed out of their location in frustration and drove back into Watsonville. I did obtain the battery in Watsonville and while I was talking to the clerk, he too said he'd heard of strange problems from CI in the past. Lots of wasted time, gas and efforts. By the way, I got stuck in commuter traffic going back home. An hour and a half to be specific. What a long ordeal! Don't be fooled with the fancy paint jobs and chrome trim of the fancy show room bikes. Read the other negative reviews posted on Yelp.com and you'll find similar reoccurring problems. I made a reservation for a Uhaul several weeks before my moving date. The day before I was to move, I called to verify. I was told they had my reservation info but they had no truck. They were unable to do anything to rectify the situation and told me to call Uhaul and make a reservation somewhere else. Terrible customer service. They couldn't have cared less. read more

I've been dealing with Joe at Cycle Imagery since he first opened up in Santa Cruz. I believe that was on Center St. about 29 years ago. I have never had a problem with Cycle Imagery once and I've bought parts there, had repairs done, sold bikes there and bought bikes and gear there. A lot of different business over the years. I know a lot of other riders who would say the same. Joe does know a lot about bikes inside and out and he keeps up on all the newest technology that keeps changing every year. He also has had his own line of custom bikes that he builds from the ground up. A lot of knowledge a lot of experience. I did read a couple of unhappy yelpers. All I can say is, yes, he does charge money for his work, no he's not going to give you a hug when you come through the door and stop everything to answer all your questions. He works hard and is always busy but if you ask him anything he will answer you in detail as long as he's not up to his elbows in grease at the time and even then, he will stop his work sometimes to come out and talk. Lastly, Corrine who works the counter is nice. I've known her close to 30 years. I've never seen her get mad or rude to anyone at work or away. She's been riding Harley's since she was a kid and is very knowledgeable herself. read more

Called about an oil leak on my cruiser, told to bring it in anytime so they could assess the problem. When I arrived at the store was told they did not have the gasket, even before seeing the bike. Also said they did not work on my type of bike even though the shop was full of cruisers. Seems like they didn't want to be bothered. The female I spoke to was rude and obviously didn't want the business. Giving 1 star as no star is not an option. read more
