This year I bought my first motorcycle, it's a 49cc Honda Ruckus (a moped). I went here to find a safe helmet in stock and that fits well. I started at the south county store, they had a whole wall all the way up with helmets. The sales staff helped me choose a better helmet than what I had quickly researched beforehand. They didn't have the specific color I liked in stock so I went to the St. Charles store that day too, who had the other color in stock. Both stores were very nice stores, I bought something at each. Assuming this is a multi city chain it's on par with like a REI but for motorcycles. (Compliment!) Only feedback I would give the stores, is that my trips were pricey, customers might want to check competitor prices as they go and ask if the store will match. read more

I like the store for mountain biking gear. But here's the deal - they don't really carry youth or little kid helmets (5 year old size), nor does any other stores in the area, but their website does. So I ordered 4 to try on. This is for a four year old who has never worn a full face helmet, we needed to try a few. We went into the store and tried them when they came in, kept one and returned the others. We also bought one pair of gloves and one goggles, which we kept. I got reprimanded and warned for returning too many! Ok, I tried to do this the best way I could but if you're not going to carry that size in the store, this is how it has to work.i don't know what to say. Great prices but now that I'm a year from my purchase of my helmet I've discovered I wasn't given the right Pin-lock lens insert even when the worker told me that he is certain it was the right size. I'm now going to have to likely spend more money elsewhere trying to find a replacement of a now discontinued helmet. read more

Hubby and I have used Cycle Gear for all of our motorcycle, dirtbike and scooter needs since moving to the are a few years ago. I went in today to see if they could repair the visor on my helmet. Sad but not too bad story - I dropped the helmet when I was carrying it and fell down a hill. So it hadn't been in a collision or accident but the visor wouldn't stay connected on one side. Bad news is that it is not fixable... Let me highlight that "fixing helmets" is not a service they actually offer or you can pay for. I just went on a limb and asked and the employee did his best to take care of me. Thank you Joey for going above and beyond! I appreciated that the employee took the time to educate me on helmet guidelines including that a helmet should be replaced every 5 years from manufacture date to ensure your safety. We found the date on my helmet and it said 2012. So looks like I'm ready for a new one anyway. I did browse around and the employee showed me a few models that would work for my needs. In store there were mostly black helmets and I prefer a lighter color for visibility as I mainly ride a scooter and want to make sure other vehicles can see me. The employee let me know there were more options on their website so I am going to check it out. Overall every time I've ever been here the employees were friendly and helpful and their pricing is very comparable and usually lower than most of their competitors. read more

I was first impressed when I walked into the store. They had a good selection of things in which I was compelled to buy. If I walked out the door after window shopping, I would have rated the store with high marks. However, my opinion changed as soon as I started the check out process. The employees are friendly and knowledgable. But, in the end, the feeling of deception trumps friendliness and knowledge. I wanted a particular helmet that they did not have the size for. The sales rep said they could order it. I asked if I could have it sent to my house (since the closest Cycle Gear store is an hour drive to another state for me), but the sales rep recommended it get shipped to the store. So, I agreed. I purchased a few other items with the helmet on credit. I showed my military card for identification purposes (I did not know a military discount was in available at the time) but the sales rep did not even mention a thing to me and charged me full price. Then the receipt he handed to me had no itemized items on it - all it had was the total. I had to ask for the itemized receipt that showed each item I bought and at what price for each. When I got home, I searched my bag for two items I placed on the counter for purchase. It was a good thing I had the itemized receipt, otherwise I would have been furious to have bought something, not have it, and take another long trip back and forth to dispute the missing items. However, as a reviewed the itemized receipt further, I noticed a charge on it for freight. I called the store a few days later when they reopened and found out they charged me shipping for ordering the helmet. My original sales rep did not mention to me I would be charged shipping. But the rep that answered my call said this was standard practice at their store. It didn't make any sense to me as I've never been to a store that charged me to have an item ship to store for pickup, especially when they don't have an item in stock. Also, it made no sense to charge shipping when I could have ordered the same item from the online Cycle Gear store and get free shipping. My initial sales rep said shipping would only take a few days. About a week and a half go by and I haven't received a call from the store that my helmet is in. At this point, I'm no longer wanting the helmet as I miss the remainder of the riding season here. I all the store and find out the helmet was already in. They said they left a message, but I did not get it. I did not receive any follow up calls. So, if I never called, the helmet would have sat there for weeks without me knowing. I head to the store to pick up the helmet. At this point, I was frustrated and no longer wanted it. I tried to return it when one of the sales rep said there is no returns for helmets. I thought he was joking, but he was dead serious. I felt ripped off and took the helmet in disappointment. Never worn, never used. The funny thing is, the helmet was shipped to the store so that the sales rep would ensure it fit me properly (as he had told me), but the same initial sales rep just handed the helmet to me and sent me on my way. As I go online to search for custome service, I found more information that made me more unhappy with my experience: 1) I found Cycle Gear offered military discounts, 2) I was not given a gift card for an item that qualified for it, 3) Cycle Gear has a 100% satisfaction guarantee that allows a return for any of their products - a complete opposite of what the sales rep at the store told me. It's a shame I ended up with an experience as this one, especially when I thought of doing a lot of business there. I hope this review helps and hope you don't experience anything like this when you shop there. Trust is important to me and my experience has ruined the trust i had for the Cycle Gear chain. Unfortunately for me, I don't ever see myself buying again from the St Ann store, from any Cycle Gear alternate location, or from the Cycle Gear online store. read more
