As to be expected in a store like this some of the stuff is crap but other stuff is pretty nice. Nothing really nice but sometimes pretty nice is nice enough. Inside is crowded and chaotic. Always seems a lot of people in here and it's difficult to move around. Takes a bit of patience but it's not too bad. It tends to over flow with stuff so they put some of it out in front on the sidewalk. Gives it a pleasantly tacky look. One of the things they really advertise are the 25 cent hot dogs. I would never get the courage to actually try one and I suspect they aren't exactly the highest quality but just seeing the price is kind of cool. The prices inside on most of the stuff inside is dirt cheap. I got some six buck T-shirts that didn't even shrink five sizes when I washed them. This place is exactly what it seems. It is an anachronism that manages to survive in a rather expensive and ritzy town like Newburyport just be being itself. The staff have always been pleasant and helpful even in middle of all the crazy activity that is going on. It's a cheap place that has lots of cheap but decent stuff. I could not have imagined that the outcome of that sad day would be this wonderful shop.... it has all of the White Hen neighborhood goodness and so much more. First, although it's not open 24/7, it's open very early (at 5 AM) and serves customers until 11 PM, so they are able to meet the needs of the early morning coffee bingers, late night food cravings, and everything you've come to expect from your neighborhood grocery-sandwich place.. You can get groceries - all the typical convenience store items - plus wine and beer, coffee, coffee, and more varieties of coffee, pastries and assorted fresh sweets, a couple of soup offerings, sandwiches (ready made or made to order), salads, and some of the best paninis in the Port City. I always get the roast beef panini (I think it's #6) and for the extra few dollars, go for the gold and order the large one. It's twice the size (literally) of the "half" for a very little bit more $$, and enough for two generous meals. In fact, it's so large, they actually wrap it in two separate packages. You can share with a lunch mate or enjoy it two days in a row. They heat up beautifully in the microwave too, btw. Friendly, family owned and operated, if you patronized White Hen, you'll see some familiar faces. And when you need that pretzel fix, you can get that and a sandwich long after every other sandwich shop has rolled up the sidewalk in front of their doors. I gave it a 5 only because that's the max you can give on Yelp. but if I could have, I'd have given them a 10. It was truly a delightful surprise to find the Pond Street White Hen reincarnated here!

So many times, we will bring a car in and the repair is much less serious and much less expensive than we expect - now when does that ever happen! We could probably get gas cheaper elsewhere, but loyalty has its rewards. Eli takes care of his loyal customers and by this I mean, when you need something in a pinch, he is there for you, and will bend over backward to make it happen. When we have needed an urgent repair, he has come through for us. He also has advised us that it was okay to hold off making an expensive repair that really didn't have to be done right away. And more than once he has given my husband a lift home from the garage when he's dropped off one of the cars. Honest, talented mechanics who ask after your pets and remember the names of everyone in your family are few and far between. We are fortunate to have that in Eli.
